If you come for a bite of dinner first, come early, as the restaurant is small and can be busy. Or a personal favourite that is close by and within walking distance is the Green Lettuce Restaurant, 1949 Kingsway. The food is a mix of Asian cuisines (Indian and Chinese) and pretty delicious from personal experience and reports by others. Community Dance Moberly Arts & Cultural Centre February 1st
27 JanSouth Hill Neighbours invite you to a Community Dance at the Moberly Arts & Cultural Centre February 1st from 6:30 – 9:30 pm. Moberly Arts & Cultural Centre, if you don’t know it, is a great little community hall located in SE Vancouver at Prince Albert Street & 60th. It has been recently renovated and will soon see the return of the Baker’s Market. This is a great facility that hosts live theatre, dance groups, culinary artists, painters, orchestras and more. Outdoors they are growing herbs and are starting a food garden with native edible plants in the Spring.
This weekend though it is all about the dance. You, your family, neighbours and friends are invited to come out and dance. Or if you aren’t that great at dancing, come out and learn to dance. Dancing will be led by Basil Houtman who we’ve learnt has experience leading community dances. He will be sure to get everyone up dancing. No dance partner required, just show up and get ready to have some fun. This is a free event that gets under this Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.
Tipper Restaurant & Review Continues Saturday Night Supper Series
8 JanThe Tipper Restaurant and Review Room continues their Saturday Concert Series in 2014. On deck this Saturday night is Neighbourhood Night with hosts Andrea Smith and Barbara McGeough. Hopefully, Andrea will do a song or two for everyone. This woman has an amazing voice with the looks of Meryl Streep and bit of the devil may care attitude that seems to go with both these women. Then on Saturday, January 18th, The Tipper Room welcomes Just Duets and on Saturday, February 1st, the local bluegrass band, Highrise Lonesome.
Each of the evenings, music begins at 8:00 p.m., but doors open at 7:15 p.m. Reservations are not available, so either come early for dinner and grab your seat, or come and have a drink while you watch the show. Cost of show is $10 at the door or pay what you can. The Tipper Restaurant and Review Room is located at 2066 Kingsway at Victoria Drive.

5 DecThis Friday night, the Wise Hall, 1882 Adanac Street, is welcoming Vancouver’s high energy rockability/western swing/country tastic trio Cousin Harley along with their guests The Broken Mirrors. You can expect classic honky tonk, Western swing and some blues from Cousin Harley. The musical experts at the Wise are saying that “The Broken Mirrors have the musicianship of Wilco, the energy of The Talking Heads, the style and humour of Beck, and the quirkiness of early Elvis Costello”. Should be a great show all around. Tickets for this show stomping good time are only $15 and available online at Brown Paper Tickets or in person at Ret Cat Records, Highlife Records or The Wise Hall & Lounge downstairs. Doors open at 8:00 pm.
