Artful Sundays Return to Britannia Community Centre August 10th

Artful Sundays return to the Britannia Community Centre this summer. This  is an outdoor visual arts market that begins Sunday, August 10th and will run every consecutive Sunday until August 31st.  This event features local artists, live music, special events, artist demonstrations, workshops and more. Sara Chandler, the Sidewalk Cellist, will be on hand to provide some live music. The event will be held in the Napier Greenway at Napier Street & Commercial Drive from Noon – 5:00 p.m. Special events lined up for Artful Sundays include:

19th Annual Stone Soup Festival Britannia Community Centre May 10th

The Stone Soup Festival gets under way this Saturday in the Napier Greenway at the Britannia Community Centre, 1661 Napier Street at Commercial Drive.  This annual event is a celebration of food, art, environment and community. You can expect to find a food market, local artists, community groups, talks and workshops, live music, tea leaf reading, children’s activities, free soup and much more.  The Stone Soup Festival aims to bring awareness to the issues of food security, the benefits of sharing resources and eating ‘local’ and celebrating the diversity of food in our neighbourhood, the environment and its importance to the culture of our community.

Some of the highlights from this year’s festival include:

Live music will be on hand at the Commercial Drive Stage at Noon with the Carnival Band kicking things off, then at 1:00 pm Rio Samaya takes over, after that Russell Shumsky and Bud Kurz move things along at 2:00 pm, Backspin takes over at 3:00 pm and Glen Watts finishes things up at 4:00 pm. The Stone Soup Festival kicks off at Noon and runs till 5:00 pm.

Magpie’s Nest Community Art Space Fundraiser – Friday Sept. 13th

This Friday, September 13th,  the Magpie’s Nest Community Art Space presents The Shining Bits of Meaning Art Sale.  You are invited to an evening of art, music and refreshments. This event is a fundraiser with proceeds going towards the opening of a community art studio in East Vancouver.   Baaad Anna’s Yarn Store, 2667 East Hastings Street, is hosting the event which gets under way at 7:00 p.m.   Everyone is welcome to attend. To learn more about the great work these ladies are doing, you can view their Indiegogo campaign running for just 5 more days.
