Dine Out Vancouver Festival Returns January 17 to February 2, 2020

Dine Out Vancouver Festival returns January 17th to February 2, 2020. This festival brings together over 300 restaurants, wineries, craft breweries and suppliers for 17 days of dining and culinary events.   This festival evolves each year and provides a little something for all tastes.    The big reveal of which restaurants are participating happens Thursday, January 9th.  Once the list is revealed, you are invited to check out the price fix menus online and make your reservation for brunch, lunch or dinner.  Price fix menus are $15, $25, $35 and $45. Beverages, tax and tip not included.

Each year a number of special culinary events take place during Dine Out and we have to say there are some pretty great ones happening this year.  We’ve highlighted a few that caught our eye, but check them out for yourself. BBQ, Fried Chicken & Brewery Tours With Vancouver Brewery Tours

Vancouver Brewery Tours invites to come and enjoy Vancouver’s best barbecue, fried chicken and craft beer. They’ve handpicked three of their favourite businesses in Vancouver for this tour. Your journey begins with some delicious free-range chicken at Juke Fried Chicken – voted #1 for Best Chicken in the Georgia Straight Golden Plates Awards 2019. Next on down the line is award winning pit stop at Memphis Blues for some messy, low and slow cooked barbecue. Finally, you will visit Vancouver’s newest craft brewery Container Brewing. You’ll want to roll out of bed early for this tour.  Vancouver Brewery Tours is hosting an epic morning of coffee, brunch, donuts and beer. You will kick off your morning at Agro Roasters coffee shop which will include a behind the scenes coffee tasting and info about bean sourcing and roasting processes.   After that, you will make your way to  the Truck Stop (at Red Truck Beer Company) for a tasty brunch. Did you know Dim Sum means “Point of the Heart”. We did not, but they say it lives up to its name in Vancouver’s Chinatown. It was originally a Cantonese family tradition (sometimes called Yum Cha (drink tea)) with small, shared dishes, often served in bamboo steamers, Dim Sum has become a staple for lovers of food worldwide.  You are invited to come learn more about Chinatown’s history and visit a couple of Dim Sum restaurants for tastings as well as a tea ceremony.  This tour is provided by Canadian Craft. Have a reno project you are working on at home and need in some reclaimed wood? Salvage Vancouver is hosting a Reclaimed Wood Market this Saturday and Sunday from  9:00 am – 4:00 pm at The Wood Hub, 1278 East Hastings Street.

Italian Culinary & Brewery Tour – Vancouver Brewery Tours – January 25th & 26th

Vancouver Brewery Tours is offering a delish dining experience featuring Italian food and great local beer.  Get picked up at Waterfront Station and you will be driven to each location in your tour which is 3.5 hours. Circle Game: Reimagining The Music Of Joni Mitchell – Firehall Arts Centre  

The Firehall Arts Centre brings the music of a Canadian icon to the stage again this weekend with the Circle Game: Reimagining the Music of Joni Mitchell. A stellar line up of musicians will be performing her songs. For tickets information, visit Firehall Arts Centre.

Mrs. Krishnan’s Party – The Cultch – To February 3rd

You are invited to a party and you the audience members are in fact part of the harvest festival, Onam. This is a spontaneous theatrical celebration that is part performance, part improv that takes place in the back of a convenience store that Mrs. Krishnan owns.  An energetic wannabe DJ and boarder hosts a party in the back room and you get to see first hand how it unfolds. There’s lights, music, dance and daal. This is a fun production which will be sure to have you laughing.  Tickets are available online at The Cultch.

Movie ‘The Shining’ – Rio Theatre – January 27th

Jack is back in the classic movie The Shining showing this Sunday evening at the Rio Theatre. This is Jack Nicholson in what we think one of his best roles. Movie kicks off at 8:00 pm. Pick up advance tickets at the Rio Theatre.

Comedy, Entertainment & Live Music

Looking for more live music, did you know The Heatley in Strathcona regularly features live music?  Every Sunday they offer bluegrass music with brunch 11 am – 3 pm.

Also 7 days a week, you will find live music at the Libra Room on The Drive. Tangent Café hosts live jazz Sunday nights  from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. Saturday, Pat’s Pub has live jazz Saturday afternoons from 3-7 pm, no cover.

Looking to shop local? Be sure to check out one of the farmer markets happening this weekend. Saturday is Riley Park Farmers Market 10 am – 2 pm. Dine Out Vancouver Returns January 18th to February 3rd

dineout2019imageCanada’s largest restaurant festival gets under on January 18thDine Out Vancouver 2019 returns with over 300 restaurants participating within Greater Vancouver.  Something new we noticed this year is 4 options for the prix-fix menus being $15, $25, $35 and $45. Dine Out, we think, is a great opportunity to try new restaurants you may not normally go to.  During the festival there are also many special foodie related events available such as Get Crafty hosted by Rocky Mountain Flatbread Co. on Main Street. There’s also an Introduction to Dim Sum at Dynasty Restaurant that looks intriguing. If you have a particular restaurant, you wish to try again make your reservation early. Popular spots do book up early.

Dine Out Vancouver, Canada’s largest restaurant festival gets under way January 11th. Restaurants participating in Dine Out, will be offering 3 prix-fixe menus, $20, $30 or $40. Note, if you are an Aeroplan member, you get a heads up and first dibs at reservations as of January 8th.     As in past years, there are also a number of special events as part of Dine Out. We’ve set out below a few that caught our eye: 

Vancouver Brewery Tours East Van Craft Brewery & Food Tour

This tour now being offered for the 5th year in a row by Vancouver Brewery Tours is a fun one.   They’ve hand picked some of their favourite East Van breweries including Strange Fellows Brewing, Italian influenced Luppolo Brewing Co. and Columbian influenced Andina Brewing Co. Vancouver Brewery Tours will take you on a brewery tour while you taste your way through East Van’s great food scene.  The tour happen on a number of dates including:  January 19, 20, 25, 26, 27 &  February 1, 2, 3. Get Crafty Main Street – Rocky Mountain Flatbread Co.

For one night only, Tuesday, January 30th, the Main Street location of Rocky Mountain Flatbread Co. is hosting ‘Get Crafty’.  You get the opportunity to roll up your sleeves and make your perfect artisan pizza.  Your evening also includes a choice of 2 starters, along with your creative pizza and the choice of 3 delish desserts.  Each course is paired with beer tastings from R&B Brewing whose founder will be on hand to share his knowledge and answer any questions.  The fun happens from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Railtown After Dark Pop-Up Dinner – Railtown Catering 

On Saturday, February 3rd, the creative team at Railtown Catering will be hosting a pop up dinner at the Railtown Café at 397 Railway Street.   They will be transforming the  café into long table dining for 30 people.  On arrival, you’ll be greeted with a welcome cocktail and canapés. After which you will be seated for a multi-course menu with wine pairings.  Menu includes side stripe ceviche, coconut, basil, rice cup, foie gras torchon, umeboshi, nashi pear, shiso, sesame streusel, grilled mackerel, burdock, turnip, water spinach, dashi, yuzu kosho pork ribs, maitake, scallion, ponzu, genmaicha panna cotta, quince, lemon crumb.  All sounds pretty delish to us. Dine Out East Village Brunch Crawl Saturday, January 28th

Each year the line up of delicious events gets better and better. One of many that caught our eye was Vancouver Foodster’s East Village Brunch Crawl happening Saturday, January 28th in the Hastings Sunrise area. The event will begin at The Waldorf Hotel, 1489 East Hastings Street, with registration which takes place between 9:30 am and 10:30 am. You will pick up your “passport” which is your guide to a number of restaurants in the Hastings Sunrise/Grandview Woodlands area. Some of the delish foods you will enjoy include fresh juices, smoothies, coffees, eggs benedict, pancakes, waffles, omelettes, brunch pizza, meats, seafood, hash browns, baked goods and a few more goodies.  Some of the stops we hear include Nonna’s Table, Gourmet Warehouse, Italia Bakery, Platform 7 Coffee and Di Oliva Tasting Bar with more to be announced soon.  Outside of your passport, we do recommend you bring your appetite. We don’t expect you will leave this event hungry. Cost for the Dine Out East Village Brunch Crawl is $52.50 and includes all food and beverage samples at each participating location.  To purchase your tickets for this Brunch Crawl, visit Tickets Tonight.
