River District is hosting a Farmers Marketing starting this Saturday, May 30th. You can find this market at 8683 Kerr Street next to Romer’s Burger in SE Vancouver on the Fraser River. The market will run from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. You can expect to find many great local products at the market including produce, plants, baked goods, handmade goods, works by local artisans and live music. We understand a few vendors on hand for the first market include Rocky Point Ice Cream Food Truck, Baguette & Co. and Stir-it-Up-Bike Caffe which if you haven’t seen is a pedal powered Caffè that uses Organic Marley Coffee. Stir-it-Up often has gluten-free snacks on hand so be sure to ask. If you are not familiar with this area of Vancouver, the market is located at the foot of Kerr Street, one block South of SE Marine Drive and is easily accessible by car, bike or transit. The market will run every Saturday until October 10th.

In case you hadn’t heard, Vancouver Craft Beer Week is coming from May 29th to June 7th. A number of restaurants and craft breweries will be featuring special events during this period. One of those include Dogwood Brewing Ltd. This is one of East Vancouver’s newest breweries located just off of SE Marine Drive by the Knight Street Bridge at 8284 Sherbrooke Street. Dogwood Brewing is also Vancouver’s only organic brewery. To celebrate Vancouver Craft Beer Week, they will be hosting a number of special events. Think oysters, chocolate, brunch, charcuterie and on it goes. They all sound pretty delicious to us. All events take place at the brewery and some of the events have multiple time slots on the same day so you have a few options. Social Yoga & Veggies – The Market Series At River District Starting May 30

If you like yoga and your veggies, the new Market Series by Social Yoga might just be the class for you. On May 30th, The Social Yoga comes to the River District in SE Vancouver along the scenic Fraser River. They will be offering 8 hours of yoga over a 4 week period starting May 30th on the outdoor deck of 8683 Kerr Street. Should it ‘happen’ to rain, there is indoor space available. Classes run from 12:30 to 2:30 pm for $160, but the bonus is the price also includes a weekly market bag full of fresh produce from Shady Acre Farm. This is one of the Lower Mainland’s newest urban farms located in Richmond. If you arrive early, of course you can take in the Farmers Market at River District which starts at 10:00 am. Or you can catch the tail end of the market after class as it runs till 3:00 pm. Space is limited to 8 participants. Thus, if interested, best sign up early.
Vaisakhi Parade Saturday April 11th SE Vancouver

Vaisakhi is a festival celebrated every April by millions of Sikhs around the world. It is a day that marks the New Year and is also the anniversary of one of the most important events in Sikhisim, that being Khalsa. It also marks the beginning of the Harvest Season. This Saturday, April 11th, come celebrate Vaisakhi. A parade will start its procession at 11:00 am from the Ross Street Temple, 8000 Ross Street (at 64th Avenue) in SE Vancouver and will travel south on Ross Street to SE Marine Drive, then west on Main Street, North to 49th Avenue and east to Fraser Street, south to 57th Avenue, east to Ross Street before returning to the Ross Street Temple. In addition to the parade, there will be Nagar Kirtan hymns, floats, live music, rides and free food prepared by local residents and businesses. The event runs until 4:00 pm.
Baker’s Market Returns This Spring To SE Vancouver

The Baker’s Market is back this Spring! If you haven’t attended the Baker’s Market, it is a great community based event that brings together local baking enthusiasts, pastry students, mommy bakers as well as budding entrepreneurs. Some of the delicious things you will find include exquisite French macarons by J’adore les Macarons, delicious lemons squares from The Lemon Square and honestly, these are a little piece of heaven if you haven’t already tried them. Other vendors lined up include Mama’s Bake Shop with gluten free cake and cookie mixes, Chicka Bites Baked Goods, Le Mardi Cake Studio with some works of art that you can eat and Yellow Basket Baking to name just a few. Each week you will find a different group of bakers, so the offerings will vary each week, but some of the goodies you can expect to find include organic muffins, brownies, handmade chocolates, Belgian waffles, scones, preserves, breads, tarts and much more. If you have something specific in mind that you would like, we do recommend you arrive early.
The Baker’s Market will be held at Moberly Arts & Cultural Centre, 7646 Prince Albert Street (60th & Fraser). Admission to the market is free, there is ample parking and our favourite part, lots of samples! So come out and support your local talented creative bakers. The market kicks off Sunday, April 12th, but if you miss the first weekend, there will be 8 more markets on April 19th, April 26th, May 3rd, May 10th, May 17th, May 24th and June 7th and June 14th. The market runs each Sunday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. This is one sweet market you should not miss.

Baker’s Market Returns To Moberly Arts & Cultural Centre On October 4th

The Baker’s Market is back this Fall! The first of 6 dates get under way Saturday, October 4th. If you haven’t attended this market, it is a community based event that brings out baking enthusiasts, pastry students, mommy bakers as well as budding entrepreneurs. Each week you will find different bakers on hand offering a wide array of baked goods. Some of the delicious things you will find include exquisite French macarons by J’adore les Macarons, delicious lemons squares from The Lemon Square and other delectable baked goodies. You will find different vendors each week, so the offerings will be a bit different each time, but the types of goodies you can expect to find include organic muffins, brownies, handmade chocolates, vegan, gluten free, Belgian waffles, lemon squares, cupcakes, scones, preserves, breads, tarts, granola and much more. If you have something specific you’d like, we do recommend you arrive early. Some items do sell out rather quick.

Free Matinee Movie Mondays At River District Until August 25th
14 JulLooking for ideas to keep the kids entertained over the summer months? River District has a FREE movie option for you and your family. They are offering a matinee movie at 2:00 pm every Monday during the summer until August 25th. You are invited to come down and get comfortable. Whether that be your favourite pillow, a sleeping bag or an air mattress, that’s entirely up to you. River District will provide the movie and the popcorn. It’s a great little spot along the Fraser River. There is also a playground for younger children outside for before or after the movie. River District is located at E. Kent Avenue & Elliott Street. Food Truck Festival Coming to SE Vancouver NOW POSTPONED TO 2015
11 JulRiver District is pleased to announce the launch of their Food Truck Festival which kicks off on Sunday, July 27th. The Festival will be located at East Kent Avenue at Kinross Street (located between Boundary Road and Kerr Street). They are still in the process of compiling vendors, so if you are a food truck vendor and interested, fill out the application form. At present, they have a few local food trucks lined up including San Juan Food Truck, Sweet Ride Fro Yo and Tandoori Tikka Dogs. Keep an eye on their website for updates on what we expect will be a growing list of vendors The Festival will take place every Sunday from July 27th to August 24th from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.

South Hill Festival Saturday May 24th

The 12th annual South Hill Festival is back for another year and will take place on Saturday, May 24th from 12:00 – 4:00 pm. This community event celebrates the South Hill Neighborhood and is fun for the whole family with a variety of different exhibitors, live entertainment, a diverse food fair and networking opportunities with local organizations that showcase the diversity that makes up South Hill. It’s the final year the Festival will be happening and it promises to be fun for everyone attending. This year’s festival theme is “Food For Thought.” They will be celebrating sustenance that is local, sustainable, healthy and bursting with world flavours.
You are invited to come out and see some community art, learn about growing vegetables, shoot a few baskets, climb the 24′ Wall, watch a variety of performers on stage. As part of the festivities this year the South Hill Business Improvement Association is hosting a Food Fair on East 47th and Fraser. The Food Fair will feature several local restaurants each offering a different culinary experience for everyone to enjoy. Also some great local musical entertainment including returning band lesismore and their opening act musician Dave Paterson.

For those new to this market, this is generally a smaller market compared to the markets held at Trout Lake and Nat Bailey Stadium. You can expect to find many local products at the market including produce, plants, baked goods, handmade goods, works by local artisans, live music, coffee and you will often find activities for the kids. The market is located at the foot of Kerr Street, one block South of SE Marine Drive and is easily accessible by car, bike or transit. The market will run every Saturday until October 18th.
