Graham Clark To Perform 24 Hours of Stand Up Comedy December 17-18 At Little Mountain Gallery

8 Dec

A beloved Vancouver comedian Graham Clark is set to perform 24 consecutive hours of stand-up from Friday, December 17 at 8:00 pm to Saturday, December 18 at 8:00 pm at Little Mountain Gallery (195 E. 26th Avenue). The veteran comedian is ready to launch into this marathon set with inspiration from his talented team of comedians as they feverishly write jokes for him to read, riff, and rate. Why is he doing a 24 stand up gig?

Funds are being raised for the Little Mountain Gallery’s Eviction Fund with the view to finding a new artist-run venue in which they can perform as an independent comedy centre in Vancouver. They only have use of their current space until January 1, 2022. The hope is that the money raised will be used toward a deposit on rent as well as covering outstanding space costs incurred between a move and opening, transportation of our equipment and basic-level recreation of a functional theatre space.

“Little Mountain Gallery’s closure is a big loss for the comedy scene in Vancouver,” says Clark. “We’ve had two full-time comedy clubs close and another long-time comedy hangout, The Kino, also shuttered. Our comedy community needs a place to really be able to experiment and build new audiences. I will try to keep this in mind when I’m at hour twenty.”

Tickets are $20 and will be available online on at www.standupfor24hours.com.  If you can’t attend in person, there will be a Livestream via Twitch.

Graham Clark’s 24 Hours of Standup At Havana Theatre November 29 & 30

26 Nov

GrahamClark24hoursLove stand up?! Well we’ve got the ticket for you. This Friday at 8:00 pm local and veteran comedian, Graham Clark, kicks off 24 Hours Of Stand Up comedy.  Graham is bringing with him a talented team of comedians that he’ll keep at the ready in the front row to help him write jokes and ensure there isn’t much lag time to keep the jokes rolling all night long and into the next day.   Why do 24 hours of comedy?  Graham has been inspired by another comedian, Pat Thornton, raising funds in Toronto for the Stephen Lewis Foundation.  This will be the first time an event like this will take place in Vancouver.  If you are unfamiliar with the Stephen Lewis Foundation, it assists community-level organizations in Africa by providing care and support to women, orphaned children, grandmothers and people living with HIV & AIDS. The Stephen Lewis Foundation has funded over 1,800 initiatives and partnered with more than 325 community-based organizations in 15 African countries hardest hit by the AIDS pandemic.   They would love your support. You are invited to come by and watch some stand up.  For that option, tickets can be purchased online or at the door $10, $20, $30 or $50.  If you can’t make it in person, you can still support the cause by heading over to their fundraising page at Stand Up for 24 Hours!

Sunee Dhaliwal: Live Stand-Up At The Rio Theatre August 4th

1 Aug

SuneeDhaliwal.pngYou are invited to a special taping happening this Thursday at the Rio Theatre.  Local comedian, Sunee Dhaliwal is taping a new comedy special.  If you haven’t checked out this rising star, we recommend you see him now while a ticket price for his show is only $10. We first saw Sunee as the warm up act for a comedian at a New West comedy club a couple of years ago.  He stole the show.  What can we say about this comedian, he has stage presence and at 6’5” that is in part why, but he is very affable, likeable and most of all funny.  Sunee hails from Abbotsford and had planned on a very different career path which included working at Staples while working towards a degree in criminology.  A former boss signed him up for an open mike night and a new career path began. He brings some interesting life experiences to his comedy from his Indo-Canadian background which included some funny dating experiences with a large extended family running a commentary on your life and adding in their cultural expectations.  Sunee has been doing stand up comedy for many years now and has been touring as a headliner across Canada, appearing at festivals and in various TV specials.  We encourage you to check out this local talent this Thursday at the Rio Theatre. Doors open at 7:00 pm and the show gets under way at 8:00 pm.

Feb. 27: Everything Is Terrible! – Rio Theatre

This is a Legends show which is a culmination of the first eight (of 888) years of work from the video alchemists at EIT! These mindfreaks have taken thousands of forgotten VHS tapes, chewed them up, and spit them back to their young via daily website postings, six movies, and world tours. In that time, they’ve exposed their fans to wonders such as massaging cat ladies, apocalyptic facial exercises, pizza parties in hell, and the immortal party-god, Duane. Time pack up your copies of Jerry Maguire and accept the fact that your life up until this moment has been pointless.
