Oktoberfest – Alpen Club – October 4
Oktoberfest celebrations kick off this Friday, October 4th at the Alpen Club. Pull out that lederhosen or dirndl or hit Value Village to make your own creation. The evening boasts schnitzel, beer, music by the Alpen Platters, dancing, sing-a-longs a whole lot of fun. Tickets are $35.00 or $85 if you want the VIP treatment that includes a German buffet and dedicated server to assist with your drinks.
Fright Nights – Playland – This Weekend
Fright Nights is back almost nightly from October 4th to October 31st at Playland. If you love being scared out of your wits, this if for you. Heads up, general admission for this weekend is $25 whereas later in the month it seems to go up to $45 per person.
Draw Draw Draw – Trout Lake Community Centre – October 5th
Trout Lake Community Centre is hosting Draw Draw Draw this Saturday between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. This is a free event. Everyone is welcome, but pre-registration is requested.
Eastside Flea – 550 Malkin Avenue – October 5 & 6
Eastside Flea is back this weekend at 550 Malkin Avenue Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Expect to find over 50 local vendors with handmade items along with a great vintage line up. Food trucks on hand as well as hot apple cider. Four legged friends on leash welcome.
Open House – Trout Lake Master Plan – Trout Lake Community Centre – October 5
This Saturday the Vancouver Parks Board is hosting an Open House regarding the development of the long-range master plan for John Hendry Park (Trout Lake). They are looking for your input. Stop by between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm at the Trout Lake Community Centre to have your say.
What We’re Up Against By Theresa Rebeck – Havana Theatre – October 4 & 5
There’s an interesting production this weekend with local comedian Sara Bynoe alongside Natalie Moon, Seth Ranaweera, Aaron McCallum, and Kalvin Olafson. The show invites you into a highly competitive architecture firm. There is a battle of the sexes that emerges in this dark comedy about a woman who tries to break the glass ceiling. Show happens Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $25 and available through Showpass.com.
Houseplant Swap – Templeton Park Pool – October 6
Looking to add some houseplants to your home? Maybe you have some plants that need dividing or wish to trade some for other types of plants. This Sunday, you are welcome to stop by the Templeton Park Pool for a Houseplant Swap between 3:30 pm and 5:00 pm. The event will take place in the Activity Room, 700 Templeton Drive. Cuttings are welcome. If you wish to participate, don’t forget to bring containers to bring plants home in.
The Shipment – Firehall Arts Centre – This Weekend
SpeakEasy Theatre’s critically acclaimed production The Shipment wraps up this weekend at the Firehall Arts Centre. Korean-American playwright Jean Lee brings to the stage a modern minstrel show about black identity meant to wake the world to the ridiculous narratives in dominant media. Do you love cartoons? Miss those Saturday morning cartoons you used to watch as a kid. Do you know Storm Crow Tavern offers cartoons Saturday morning from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm whilst you enjoy breakfast/brunch?
Also 7 days a week, you will find live music at the Libra Room on The Drive. Tangent Café hosts live jazz Sunday nights from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. Saturday, Pat’s Pub has live jazz Saturday afternoons from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm, no cover.
Looking to shop and support local? Be sure to check out one of the farmer markets happening this weekend. Saturday is Riley Park Farmers Market at 30th & Ontario from 10 am – 2 pm and Trout Lake Farmers Market from 9 am – 2 pm at John Hendry Park.
