Eastside Flea is back hosting a vintage pop up this weekend at 1739 Venables Street (at Commercial Street). If you are looking for that one-of-a-kind vintage piece or collectible, this is the place to be. Lots of great local vintage vendors on hand as well as a few food trucks. Event happens this Saturday, April 15th and Sunday, April 16th from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
The Eastside Flea kicks off another year of markets featuring all things vintage at the Eastside Studios at 550 Malkin Avenue. First weekend kicks off March 4th and 5th from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm and then every following weekend in March. You can expect to find over 50 local vendors with a host of vintage items alongside handmade local makers. If you get hungry after all that shopping, or need some sustenance before shopping, there will be a few food trucks on hand as well as an outdoor seating area. Admission is $5.
If you love finding that perfect vintage piece, you’ll want to mark your calendar for the Eastside Flea’s Vintage Pop Ups happening this month. They will be hosting a vintage pop up for two weekends February 11th and 12th and February 18th and 19th at 1739 Venables Street (at Commercial Drive). You can expect to find over 30 vendors along with all things vintage and food trucks. Event happens from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm each day of the event.

Oktoberfest – Alpen Club – October 4
Oktoberfest celebrations kick off this Friday, October 4th at the Alpen Club. Pull out that lederhosen or dirndl or hit Value Village to make your own creation. The evening boasts schnitzel, beer, music by the Alpen Platters, dancing, sing-a-longs a whole lot of fun. Tickets are $35.00 or $85 if you want the VIP treatment that includes a German buffet and dedicated server to assist with your drinks.
Fright Nights – Playland – This Weekend
Fright Nights is back almost nightly from October 4th to October 31st at Playland. If you love being scared out of your wits, this if for you. Heads up, general admission for this weekend is $25 whereas later in the month it seems to go up to $45 per person.
Draw Draw Draw – Trout Lake Community Centre – October 5th
Trout Lake Community Centre is hosting Draw Draw Draw this Saturday between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. This is a free event. Everyone is welcome, but pre-registration is requested.

What We’re Up Against By Theresa Rebeck – Havana Theatre – October 4 & 5
There’s an interesting production this weekend with local comedian Sara Bynoe alongside Natalie Moon, Seth Ranaweera, Aaron McCallum, and Kalvin Olafson. The show invites you into a highly competitive architecture firm. There is a battle of the sexes that emerges in this dark comedy about a woman who tries to break the glass ceiling. Houseplant Swap – Templeton Park Pool – October 6
Looking to add some houseplants to your home? Maybe you have some plants that need dividing or wish to trade some for other types of plants. This Sunday, you are welcome to stop by the Templeton Park Pool for a Houseplant Swap between 3:30 pm and 5:00 pm. The event will take place in the Activity Room, 700 Templeton Drive. Cuttings are welcome. If you wish to participate, don’t forget to bring containers to bring plants home in.
The Shipment – Firehall Arts Centre – This Weekend
SpeakEasy Theatre’s critically acclaimed production The Shipment wraps up this weekend at the Firehall Arts Centre. Korean-American playwright Jean Lee brings to the stage a modern minstrel show about black identity meant to wake the world to the ridiculous narratives in dominant media. Nassim – The Cultch – May 17th & 18th
From Iranian playwright Nassim Soleimanpour has brought an audacious theatrical experiment to the stage. Each night a different performer joins the playwright on stage, while the script waits unseen in a sealed box. The show is partly autobiographical yet we hear powerfully universal. The show is a striking theatrical demonstration of how language can both divide and unite us. This production is getting rave reviews, just a few more days to catch it. For tickets, visit The Cultch.
Cat Video Fest 2019 – Rio Theatre May 18th
Love cats and/or cat videos? You will want to check out Cat Video Fest 2019 this Saturday afternoon. The event features a compilation of the latest and best cat videos including animations, music videos and random submissions. This is a perfect feel good event, who doesn’t need a bit of that. Added bonus, it’s a fund raiser for VOKRA – Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association based in East Vancouver that does amazing work in the community. Zero Waste Vegan Market – 520 Alexander Street – May 18th

Calling all nature and wildlife lovers, this is the spot to head to this weekend to do some relaxed gift shopping. East Van artist June Hunter is hosting her annual Holiday Studio Sale this Friday (2:00 pm to 7:00 pm), Saturday and Sunday (10:00 am – 5:00 pm). The setting is her idyllic back yard studio complete with an offering of mulled wine and Christmas baking. We hear some delish Gingerbread muffins will be on hand. If you miss watching the Vancouver Giants play hockey at the Pacific Coliseum, this Saturday is your chance. The boys will be back for a game against Tri-City Americans. Game starts at 7:00 pm. The Enemy is an interpretation of Henrik Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People, a female Dr. Stockman discovers contamination in the community’s water source and is branded an enemy and accused of destroying the local economy. So in case you missed the news, The Eastside Flea, which was until recently located at 1024 Main Street in the Ellis Building, has moved to the Eastside Studios at 550 Malkin Avenue in Strathcona. Which we might add is a great cool space. This though left the window open for someone to organize and takeover the space at now vacant Ellis Building and that they’ve done. This Friday, October 26th is the launch of the Maker Market At The Ellis which features you guessed it local makers, food trucks and more. We see our friends at Sriracha Revolver will be on hand with their amazing spicy sauces AND one of their sauces we hear will be added to a spicy drink collaboration at the bar. Yes there’s a bar, cash only. This new Makers Market happens from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm. If you can’t make this one, two more are lined up Friday, November 23rd and Friday, December 14th. Ola Volo Solo Exhibition – Settlement Building – October 5th & 6th
Ola Volo is having her first solo exhibition this weekend at the Settlement Building. King.Queen.Lovers.Fool will feature 12 original paintings on canvas limited edition artworks as well as one Ola Volo signature-sized mural on wood panel. We hear Doan’s Craft Beer will be on hand and Vancouver Urban Winery will have the wine at the ready. A Vancouver Guldasta – The Cultch – Until October 21st
On now this weekend at The Cultch, A Vancouver Guldasta features a Punjabi family in the early 80s. We attended opening night and wow! For anyone that lived in the 80s, this is certainly a flashback in time. There’s history here about Vancouver, but also world politics, religion and most importantly family, which isn’t always biological. Many people who grew in the multi cultural community that is Vancouver will resonate with the many themes in this production. We highly recommend. The show is on until October 21st. Eastside Flea – 550 Malkin Avenue – October 6th & 7th
In case you missed it, Eastside Flea has moved to a new location, 550 Malkin Avenue, Eastside Studios. 50 local vendors will be on hand this Saturday and Sunday as will food trucks, music and we hear pinball and pool. Kids and dogs are welcome as well. Admission is $3.00. The Eastside Flea runs 11:00 am – 5:00 pm.
Free Family Fun – Trout Lake Community Centre – October 8th
This holiday Monday, October 8th, Trout Lake Community Centre will have the gymnasium set up with a bouncy castle, arts and crafts and games for the kids from 10:00 am to Noon. It’s a free event, but you are asked to pre-register.

Live Music, Comedy & Entertainment
This weekend Kamloopa continues at The Cultch which is high energy Indigenous matriarchal story that follows two urban Indigenous sisters and a lawless trickster who face the world head-on as they come to terms with what it means to honour who they are and where they come from.
If it’s live music you are after, the Libra Room on The Drive has a regular line up of music. Tangent Café hosts live jazz Sunday nights from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. Saturday, Pat’s Pub has live jazz Saturday afternoons from 3-7 pm, no cover.
Three Farmer Markets happening this weekend – Saturday it’s Riley Park (10 am – 2 pm) and Trout Lake (9 am – 2 pm) and Sunday, Mount Pleasant Farmers Market in Dude Chilling Park from 10 am – 2 pm. To see more of what’s on in East Vancouver, check our Event Listing.
