The Cultch Gallery, 1895 Venables Street, invites you to a preview of the Eastside Culture Crawl this Wednesday, November 6th . The Eastside Culture Crawl is an annual three day visual arts festival that showcases artistic talent from Vancouver’s Eastside. During the 3 day event starting November 15th artists open up their studios to the public. You will find sculptors, potters, painters, photographers, printmakers, glass blowers, furniture markers, jewelers and more. The Cultch Gallery will be exhibiting a selection of drawings from local artists, both rising and established artists, which work has been curated by the Eastside Culture Crawl. A reception will take place at The Cultch showcasing the works of local illustrators. Reception starts at 6:00 p.m. and runs to 8:00 pm . Everyone is welcome to attend. If you miss the opening reception, the exhibit will run till December 14, 2013.

5 NovCall To Artists For Redesign Of Vancity Credit Union Commercial Drive Branch
30 OctVancity Credit Union is seeking applications from artists or teams of artists to redesign the Vancity Branch on Commercial Drive. One part of the redesign involves asking local artists to submit applications with images of available, completed artwork and expressions of interest in creating a commissioned artwork for the branch that reflects the community if services.
There will be two Artist Information Sessions held at the Commercial Drive branch located at 1675 Commercial Drive on:
– Thursday, November 7th, 6:30 to 7:30 pm
– Saturday, November 9th, 4:00 to 6:30 pm

Parallel Circus: Artists Opening Reception At The Art Way Studios October 12th
7 OctYou are invited to an Opening Reception at The Art Way Studios, 649 East 15th Avenue, this Saturday, October 12th. The show is titled Parallel Circus and features local artists, Dominique Norville, and Karen Bedard. If you are unfamiliar with the The Art Way, it was founded in January 2010 by local artist, Denna Erickson, and is a learning centre that offers art classes and workshops for adults, youth and children. They provide a supportive and empowering environment for all students. The aim is to enable people to explore their creative side through expression in various mediums. This Saturday, you can come out and learn about the classes that are offered and speak to the artists that are showcasing their works. The Art Way is located at the corner of Fraser & Kingsway between two of my favourite places Les Faux Bourgeois and Collage Collage. The reception begins at 6:00 p.m. and goes till 9:00 p.m. with food and refreshments being served. Come out and support these local artists!
A Call To Artists for Broadway East Art Walk, September 28th
2 SepA group of neighbours in the Mount Pleasant area have been leading a charge to create an Art Walk in the Broadway East area. A number of businesses along the Broadway corridor between Prince Edward and Prince Albert will be providing some exhibition space within or outside of their premises. A small scale pilot Art Walk was held on June 8th with great success. So this September 28th, they will be doing a large scale Art Walk. The goal of the initiative is to bring new life to this area while supporting the local arts with the theme being Art in Unexpected Places. They are looking for bold artists in a variety of mediums including: paint, short film, sculpture, performance, temporary installation, balloon artists, sidewalk chalk artists, eco artists, window painting/decoration, you name it. The field is wide open. If are interested in submitting your art, submit your contact information and 1 – 2 samples of your work or a link to your portfolio to: broadwayeastartwalk@gmail.com with the subject line “Broadway East Art Walk”. Arts Off Main Boulevard Days Start July 6th
6 JulArts Off Main, 216 East 28th Avenue (located at 28th and Main Street), is an artist’s cooperative gallery which is celebrating their 10 year anniversary. The gallery features the works of many local artists. Today they begin their Boulevard Days where they feature an artist in the great outdoors on Saturdays during the summer months. Today they will be featuring the work of Celia Brauer from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. You will also have the opportunity to meet the artists during these events. Come talk a wander down Main Street. There is lots to see.
A Call for an Artist for Community Mural Project

Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House, 800 East Broadway Avenue, is looking for an artist to lead a community art mural project. The project is a partnership between Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House, Broadway East Youth Resource Centre and Vancouver Native Housing. The aim is to engage community members especially youth in planning, designing and implementing three murals along Broadway East. Working with the themes of water and culture, the murals will link the diversity of the neighbourhood to the St. George Rainway stream daylighting project. The plan is to begin the project in June 2013 with the installation aimed for mid-August 2013. The application deadline is June 20, 2013. This is a great opportunity to showcase your artistic talent. This Draw Down integrates with a basketball fundraiser. Drop by the gym at Strathcona Community Centre to help create collaborative dragon drawings. Each imaginary dragon begins with a a gestural mark that mimics the swishes and bounces of the basketball shoot out. Suitable for all ages and skill levels.
Bird Calls

Cindy Mochizuki leads a workshop in a collective sumi-ink drawing workshop called ‘Bird Calls.’ Participants will work on a large canvas collectively and will create marks and doodles in response to the recordings of ‘bird calls’ collected from the neighbouring Hastings Park Bird Sanctuary.

Collage Collage provides all the art materials and creative support you need to be a part of this installation, you provide the imagination and ideas. Suitable for everyone who is 5 years old and up.

New Exhibition Coming To The Cultch Gallery March 20th
15 MarAn opening reception is being held Wednesday, March 20th at The Cultch, 1895 Venables Street, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend this event. The Cultch Gallery is presenting a Dialogue by Shya-fen Tsai and an exhibition of the Goddess Series of paintings by Sande Waters.
Shya-fen Tsai was born in Taiwan in 1949. She had dreams of becoming an artist, but was discouraged by her family. After immigrating to Canada in 1974, she fulfilled her dream of becoming an artist. Shya-fen enrolled in the Emily Carr University of Art & Design where she studied painting and sculpture. Her art is abstract in nature and can be found in private collections around the world.
Sande Waters is a resident of North Vancouver. She studied art at the Emily Carr University of Art & Design and the San Francisco Art Institute. Sande is a watercolour and graphite artist. Her current body of work on display is titled the “Goddess Series” uses beautiful imagery derived from gender and sexual symbolism. Her paintings, drawings and photographs are shown and collected in Canada and the United States.
