1st Annual East Van Cider Fest August 16, 2017 At The Wise Hall

2 Aug

VancouverCiderFestLiberty Merchant Company presents the 1st Annual East Van Cider Fest on Wednesday, August 16th, 2017 at the Wise Hall, 1882 Adanac Street. In case you hadn’t heard the news, some are touting cider as the new craft beer. However, some say craft beer has paved the way for new industries in the craft beverage market such as distilled spirits, mead and, thankfully for us, craft cider. However you slice it, we are pleased to see this new growing industry of small cideries. The 1st Annual East Van Cider Fest will be featuring cider, mead and spirits from all over BC. The evening will also feature tasty bites from local businesses, a silent auction and door prizes which directly support the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society.   Tickets for the event are $24.99 and you are asked to bring a non-perishable food event with you. Your ticket includes 10 tasting tokens, a welcome cocktail and a keepsake glass. To purchase your tickets, visit any Liberty Wine Merchants location. In East Vancouver, you can visit them at 1622 Commercial Drive or call them at 604.633.1922. The event gets under way at 7:00 p.m. and goes till 9:00 pm. If you wish to learn more about BC’s growing cider industry, we invite you to check out this informative write up by What’s Brewing.

BC Beer Awards At The Croatian Cultural Centre Saturday October 24

16 Sep

GoldGlassofBeerThe 6th Annual BC Beer Awards & Festival is coming to the Croatian Cultural Centre, 3250 Commercial Drive, on Saturday, October 24th. The BC Beer Awards showcases a craft beer festival with over 50 breweries and an awards ceremony which is being hosted by CBC’s Stephen Quinn. Returning this year will be community booths and on site judging for the Brewers’ Challenge! 2015. We hear that 2015 has been dubbed the Year of the Sour Beer and they have challenged BC’s Brewers to create something that will dazzle your taste buds and possibly make you pucker.

A couple of new things to keep an eye out for this year include “Richard Buell Sutton LLP Rookie of the Year Award” for BC’s top new brewery.  Also a handful of BC’s cideries will join this year’s festivities for your tasting enjoyment. There will also be an official BC Beer Awards After Party at Doolin’s and The Belmont Bar. Of course, what’s a festival without food. You can expect to find Le Tigre Food Truck outside the Croatian Cultural Centre during the event and eats by Tap & Barrel and BierCraft on the inside. Speaking of food, organizers are asking everyone to bring a non-perishable item for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. They will be collecting donations at the door.

Early bird ticket sales are currently on sale for $30 until September 30th. Each ticket includes 4 drink tokens as well as a 4 oz taster glass for you to take home. Note, additional tokens are available for purchase for $1.25 each. Ticket prices go up on October 1st to $35.   Last year this event SOLD OUT before Early Bird Ticket sales ended, so we do recommend ‘hopping’ to it if you wish to attend.

2nd Annual Cider and Gluten Free Beer Tasting Event At Wise Hall March 21st

13 Mar

CiderwiseYou are invited to CiderWise taking place at the Wise Hall, 1882 Adanac Street, Saturday, March 21st. This delicious tasting event is brought to you by CAMRA Vancouver. As many know, there are a number of people that are gluten-intolerant, sensitive, allergic or choose to omit gluten for health reasons.  Whatever the reason it makes drinking beer and other alcoholic beverages a little challenging. Even more so with the growing craft beer industry right here under our noses in East Vancouver. So we are pleased to see this event back at the Wise Hall to showcase gluten-free beers and ciders.   Some of the participants lined up for this event include Txotx Basque Imports, Merridale Cider, Sea Cider, Left Field Cider Co. and Howling Moon Craft Cider. Want a bite of something to eat in between tastings? Food trucks will be set up outside the Wise Hall for your snacking pleasure with gluten free options of course. Tickets for CiderWISE are available at Eventbrite for $20 for CAMRA, WISE and Vanbrewers Members and $25 for non-members. Event kicks off at 1:00 and goes till 5:00 pm.

4 Feb

CiderWiseWiseHallYou are invited to CiderWISE taking place at the Wise Hall, 1882 Adanac Street, this Saturday, February 8th. The event brought to you by CAMRA Vancouver and Untapped will be a bit of an education and a bit of fun.  There will be an actual Education Stage with CAMRA Vancouver’s Danny Seeton who will talking about makes gluten free beer good and how the process has changed.  Also on hand, will be Alex who is a ‘cider evangelist’ from cidermonger.com.  He will discuss his passion for cider and give you the run down on all things cider.  His reputation I hear precedes him, so if you like cider, this is the man to talk to.

Want a bite of something to eat in between tastings? Culver City Salads Food Truck will be set up outside the Wise Hall for your snacking pleasure with gluten free salads of course.  They are getting quite the reputation around town. And I do mean that in a good way with good healthy innovative salads.
