Canadian Premiere Of All That Fall By Samuel Beckett At The Cultch Until January 24th

2 Jan

AllThatFallTheCultchThe Cultch and Blackbird Theatre bring you the first ever Canadian production of All That Fall by Irish writer Samuel Beckett.  For 50 years no one has been allowed to stage this entertaining Irish play which touches on the harshness of life and the futility of religion.  After a ban was lifted, audiences in New York and London were able to see this radio play produced on stage and now it’s finally come to Canada. The Globe & Mail has a nice run down about the history of how the show came to Canada.   All That Fall is now on at The Cultch, 1895 Venables Street, until January 24th nightly at 8:00 pm with 2:00 pm matinees on January 4th, 11th and 18th.  Tickets start at $19 and are available online at The Cultch.

An East Van Panto: Cinderella At The York Theatre December 3rd to 28th

28 Oct

EastVanPanto

This December, if you want to have some fun, check out the East Van Panto: Cinderella playing at The York Theatre, 639 Commercial Drive, starting December 3rd, 2014.   This production is brought to you by the creative minds at Theatre Replacement.

If you missed last year’s performance of Jack & The Beanstalk, you missed a whole lot of fun! We recommend that you don’t miss this year’s East Van Panto: Cinderella. What is a Panto you might ask? The definition of Panto (another name for Pantomime) is a tradition of holiday musical comedy theatre. Pantomime takes familiar fairy tale,s in this case Cinderella, and injects music, contemporary references and (best of all) audience participation to create raucous, noisy entertainment that’s fun for everyone in the family. And yes, there will be many East Van references that you will be able to identify with in the show that is sure to make everyone laugh.  The East Van Panto is open to all ages 5 and up. Tickets start at $19, family packs are available which include 4 tickets for $100.   Tickets are available at The Cultch either in person, by phone or online. The show begins December 3rd 7:00 pm and continues till December 28th. For those looking for a matinee, there are many 2:00 pm shows starting December 6th. For more information on tickets and performances, visit The Cultch.  We’ll be seeing you there!

The Daisy Theatre Returns To The Cultch September 23rd to October 12th

12 Sep

TheDaisyTheatre

Back by popular demand!  The Daisy Theatre returns to The Cultch for a run on September 23rd to October 12th.  This was a sold out show in 2013 and has been billed by The Georgia Straight as “one of the best shows you’ll ever see”. This season’s edition promises new variety acts and characters in addition to some favourites for those that did not get a chance to see last year’s show.   You can expect each performance to not only be different, but daring and ridiculous.  Ronnie Burkett, puppeteer provocateur and his company of over 30 marionettes will have you roaring in the aisles.   If you wish to get a sense of last year’s show, check out the review in the Vancouver Sun. Don’t be surprised if the show starts with a burlesque number, but then with Ronnie you just never know, but be prepared to be shocked. The shock value is part of the fun. Tickets range from $18.01 to $50.48 and if interested, best be quick on the ticket purchase. It is expected to be another sold out run.  Note, the show does have a running time of 90 – 120 minutes with no intermission.
