Tugboat Landing Artisan Market – SE Vancouver – December 7+ 8

If you are looking to do some Christmas shopping in a relaxed environment, check out the 4th Annual Tugboat Landing Artisan Market happening this Saturday & Sunday. It happens at 2010 East Kent Avenue at the foot of Victoria Drive from  11:00 am to 4:00 pm. This is a smaller with about 20 vendors per day situated at the foot of Victoria Drive next to the Fraser River. Admission is free. Coffee, tea and hot cocoa and treats available by donation. June Hunter Studio Sale – 2785 Parker Street – December 6, 7 + 8

East Van artist June Hunter will be hosting her Annual Holiday Studio Sale this weekend. You’ll find lots of great gifts for the nature lover including cushion covers, tote bags, jewellery, prints, wood panels and a whole lot more. If you love our crows or know someone that does, this is the spot to be this weekend. Stop by Friday from 2:00 to 7:00 pm or Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. June’s studio is located at the back of her home at 2785 Parker Street. We are sure mulled wine will be available for sipping whilst you shop.

Bad Abby Vintage Fashion & Art Fair – Odd Society Spirits – December 6

Odd Society Spirits plays host to the Bad Abby Vintage Fashion & Art Fair. If you are invited to check out the work of local artists alongside some vintage items whilst sipping a cocktail if you choose.  Mocktails also available and they did make some pretty awesome cocktails. Just saying! Everyone is welcome to stop by during their hours of 1:00 pm to 11:00 pm. There is no admission charge for the event.

Aurora Winter Festival – Hastings Park/PNE – Until January 5, 2020

The Aurora Winter Festival continues at Hastings Park/PNE with an array of indoor and outdoor activities, Christmas Market, games, rides.  This is an all ages event. For tickets, visit Ticketleader.

Fado: The Saddest Music in The World – Firehall Arts Centre – Until December 14

A play featuring Fado music with origins going back to the early 1800s in Lisbon, Portugal continues this weekend at the Firehall Arts Centre. This music is a distinct part and proud part of Portuguese culture. If you haven’t experienced it, we invite you to check out this production. For tickets, visit Firehall Arts Centre.

East Van Panto: Pinocchio – The York – On Now Until January 5, 2020

Our favourite holiday tradition is now on at the York Theatre until January 5th.  Take in this fun and entertaining show that is fun for all ages. Just remember if you are in the front row, you might become part of the production. This year’s panto is Pinocchio and touches on some unique aspects in East Van, such as the mysterious Beckwoman and the coffee wars on The Drive for starters. Climate Strike Day Of Action – Everywhere – September 27

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, teenager and climate activist, Greta Thunberg, has shaken the tree on the issue of climate change. We all have a stake in this issue. What we do and don’t do matters.  So this Friday, expect more voices and actions in support of the Climate Strike.  Many local businesses will be closed such as MEC, Plenty + Spare, Bandidas Taqueria, Earnest Ice Cream and LUSH in support of the Climate Strike and transit will be busy. Recommend planning ahead.

Mrkt By Make It! – Croatian Cultural Centre – September 27 – 29

The local handmade movement comes to the Croatian Cultural Centre this weekend.  Mrkt by Make It! kicks off Friday at 5:00 pm and goes till 9:00 pm.  It continues Saturday from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm and Sunday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.  There will be over 100 Canadian artists and makers on hand with a wide variety of items including clothing, accessories, home décor, gourmet edibles, body care and yes, stuff for the guys.  And if that’s not enough, food trucks and a bar.  Advance admission is $2.50 or $5.00 at the door. June Hunter Fall Studio Sale – 2785 Parker Street – September 28 & 29

East Van artist and nature photographer June Hunter is hosting her Fall Studio Sale this weekend. Her backyard studio is located at 2785 Parker Street in the Hastings Sunrise area.  She’s have many beautiful creations perfect for gift giving for the nature lover, or for yourself.  There will be jewellery, tiles, prints, cushion covers, tote bags and much more.  As always, refreshments and nibbles will be available and very easy and relaxed way to do some shopping.

Repair Café – Vancouver Hack Space – September 29

Do you have something that’s broken?  Maybe a household item that needs fixing? If so, you are invited to stop by Vancouver Hack Space at 1601 Venables Street this Sunday between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm and bringing your item that needs fixing. It can be a small appliance, textile, computer, bike or jewellery.

Vancouver Improv Fest – The Cultch – This Weekend

June Hunter Fall Studio Sale September 28 & 29, 2019

JuneHunterStudioSale2019East Van artist, June Hunter, is hosting a Fall Studio Sale Saturday, September 28th and Sunday, September 29th.  If you follow us regularly, you know we are big fans of her work.  Vancouver’s urban nature features prominently in June’s work as do some iconic East Van landmarks. If you wish to know more about the crows and other birdlife that inhabit the green space in our neck of the woods, you may wish to check out some of her blog posts. June also captures some truly amazing photos of the visitors that come to her idyllic backyard. During her Studio Sales, June transforms her working space to showcase all her creative works which include cushion covers, jewellery, small prints, large scale wall art, totes, wall decals and more. She has lots of beautiful new designs this Fall which will help you bring a touch of nature indoors.  Her rescue dog Geordie is usually on hand as ambassador to greet you. June Hunter’s Studio is located at 2785 Parker Street (one block west of Renfrew – between Hastings St. and First Avenue). The Studio Sale runs from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on both Saturday and Sunday.

Vancouver Fringe Festival – Various Venues – September 5th to 15th

The Vancouver Fringe Festival has kicked off for another year with a great line up of talent. Although many of the shows are playing on Granville Island, there are many shows happening at East Van venues including Havana Theatre, The Cultch, Wise Hall, What Lab and The Firehall Arts Centre.  Last year, the Fringe featured more than 700 performances by 90 artists in just over 11 days.  For a full line up, visit Vancouver Fringe Festival.

Summer Savour Festival – River District Centre – September 7th

Wesgroup Properties is hosting their last free summer event this Saturday in the River District Town Centre.  The afternoon starts off with Yeeri the Magician followed by music by Kutapira, Gina Lina and the Katherines.  Event happens between 2:00 and 6:00 pm. Lots of family friendly activities in the walkable town centre.   We recommend popping into the Everything Wine store in the heart of the Town Centre which has a great Wine Tasting Bar with free samples.

Studio Sale – AntiPod Workshop – September 7th

A few local artists are hosting an Open Studio Sale this Saturday, AntiPod Workshop, Rachael Ashe and Michelle Sirois-Silver at 201 – 1610 Clark Drive this Saturday. Stop by between 10:00 am and 5:30 pm to check out some local talent.

Come Draw With Me Alicia Tobin – Little Mountain Gallery – September 7th

Bayanihan Filipino Celebration – Trout Lake Community Centre – September 8th

June has again been working on some new colourful designs. Eastside Flea – 550 Malkin Avenue – Dec. 1st & 2nd

The Eastside Flea is in full swing this weekend for holiday shopping. Lots of great local vendors on hand to help make your Christmas shopping easy. PLUS, they are taking donations of a variety of personal items including cosmetics, toiletries, clothing, etc. which will be distributed to the WISH Drop In Centre Society and Ray Cam Cooperative Centre. The Eastside Flea happens from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm Saturday and Sunday.

Crafty Affaire  Holiday Market – Croatian Cultural Centre – December 1st

The Crafty Affaire Holiday Market happens at the Croatian Cultural Centre this Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. They have a great line up of vendors including some favourites like Odd Society Spirits, Sriracha Revolver, Eb & Flo Designs, East Van Bees and Sealuxe to name a few.  Check out their website and we see some cool lamps by Usedful.  We’ll be keeping an eye on them.  Admission for the market is by donation.  First 25 people in the door will get a swag bag.

Vancouver Giants – Pacific Coliseum – December 1st

If you miss watching the Vancouver Giants play hockey at the Pacific Coliseum, this Saturday is your chance.  The boys will be back for a game against Tri-City Americans. Game starts at 7:00 pm. For tickets visit Ticketleader. Note, they are back for a second game December 8th which is the infamous Teddy Bear Toss. So you can purchase tickets for one event or both.

Mini Folk Fest – Wise Hall – December 1st

A fun all ages afternoon event at the Wise Hall. Professor Banjo and others host square dancing from 3:00 pm– 5:30 pm at the Wise Hall. Tickets range between $10 – $40, Kids under 5 are free.

The Enemy – Firehall Arts Centre – Until December 1st

A contemporary political drama finishes its run this weekend at the Firehall Arts Centre. The Enemy is an interpretation of Henrik Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People, a female Dr. Stockman discovers contamination in the community’s water source and is branded an enemy and accused of destroying the local economy. Our Social Fabric: Fabric Sale – 1275 Venables Street – December 2nd

If you are doing some sewing or crafting for the holiday season, you may wish to check out the Fabric Sale at Our Social Friday this Sunday.  It’s their last sale of the year happening at 1275 Venables Street (at Clark) from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. There will be some great deals to be had.

Comedy, Entertainment & Live Music

If it’s comedy you are after, Graham Clark’s Laugh Gallery happens at Havana Theatre every Monday night. For live music, Jillian Lake is performing at Havana Theatre on Friday evening 10:00 pm.  Also, the Libra Room on The Drive has a regular line up of music. Tangent Café hosts live jazz Sunday nights  from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. Saturday, Pat’s Pub has live jazz Saturday afternoons from 3-7 pm, no cover.

Two winter farmer markets happen this weekend. Saturday it’s the Riley Park Farmers Market from a0:00 am to 2:00 pm and Sunday, the Hastings Park Farmers Market also happens from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. To see more of what’s on in East Vancouver, check our Event Listing.
