Playland – Opens May 5th

Playland opens this Saturday, May 5th. Note, it’s only open Saturday and Sunday from May 5th to June 10th from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. For more info, visit Playland.

Trout Lake Farmers Market – Trout Lake – May 5th

Vancouver Farmers Market kicks off the ever popular Trout Lake Farmers Market this Saturday at 9:00 am until 2:00 pm. To see what’s new at the market, visit EatLocal.org.  

June Hunter Studio Sale – May 4 – 6, 2018

East Van artist June Hunter is hosting a Studio Sale this weekend which kicks off Friday at 2:00 pm. We are big fans of her work as nature features prominently in her work as do some East Van landmarks.  This year, June has ventured into some home décor and accessory items including cushion covers, notepads, iPad cases. With Mother’s Day soon on the horizon, we are sure you’ll be able to find a little something for mom or yourself.

Got Craft – Maritime Labour Centre – May 5th & 6th

Just in time for Mother’s Day, Got Craft is happening at the Maritime Labour Centre at 1880 Triumph Street Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm. The event features  local artisans including some favourites such as The Lemon Square, East Van Bees, Salty Cookie Co. and East Van Jam for something edible.  Newbies include Scouter Wear Dog Wear and Riding The Pine which has some cool designs featuring hockey sticks. Have to see them to fully appreciate them.  To see the full line up of talent, visit Vendors.  Admission is $3.00 and tickets can be purchased in advance at Eventbrite.

Mother’s Day Crafternoon – Lupii Café – May 5th

An interesting creative workshop is happening at Lupii Café in Champlain Heights this Saturday.  Crafting With Crap is hosting an upcycling workshop in partnership with Lupii Café.  You will learn to make some crafty gifts for mom including DIY bath salts and reusable packaging. Cost is $5.83 and registration is through Eventbrite.

21st Century Flea Market – Croatian Cultural Centre – May 6th

The 21st Century Flea Market happens this Sunday, May 6th at the Croatian Cultural Centre.  If you are a collector of bargain hunter, this is the spot for you. An amazing array of items by 185 vendors.  An appraiser on site (for a small fee) for those that are looking for that.  Event runs 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Admission is $5.00 at the door.

Classical Guitar Open Mic Night – Café Deux Soleils – May 11th

Do you own or play a classical guitar? You are invited to an open mic night at Café Deux Soleils on May 11th. You are welcome to come play in a casual setting.  If you are interested in performing, just drop them a note you are stopping by.  Show kicks off at 8:30 pm.

Live Music, Comedy & Entertainment

East Van Artist June Hunter Hosting Studio Sale May 4 – 6, 2018

JuneHunterStudioSaleMay2018One of our favourite local artists, June Hunter, is hosting a Studio Sale this weekend. For those that don’t know her work, nature features prominently in June’s work as do some iconic East Van landmarks. She regularly features crows and other birds that come to visit her idyllic backyard which houses her working studio.  Those crows have been a source of inspiration for new designs.  Always creative, June has been busy working on new designs which include beautiful cushion covers, iPad cases, notepads, pencil cases, tote bags and more. Her working studio will again be transformed to showcase all her creative works which also include jewellery, small prints, large scale wall art, tiles and more. If you are lucky, her rescue dog Geordie will again be on hand as ambassador to greet you. June Hunter’s Studio is located at 2785 Parker Street (one block west of Renfrew – between Hastings St. and First Avenue). The Studio Sale takes place Friday, May 4th from 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm and Saturday, May 5th and Sunday, May 6th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

June Hunter Studio Sale – 2785 Parker Street – February 10th

East Van artist and nature lover June Hunter is having a studio sale this weekend. So if you wish to pick up something special for a Valentine, an upcoming birthday or for yourself, this Saturday is your chance. Her studio is located in the Hastings Sunrise area. Sale happens 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Valentine’s cookies will be on hand for snacking.

Hearts Workshop – Britannia Community Centre – February 10th 

A Hearts Workshop is happening this Saturday at Britannia Community Centre from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Express your love with a myriad of collage, colour and sparkle options in this hands-on workshop. Make a gift for someone special, or how about love bombing your neighbourhood? All materials are supplied and all ages are welcome.

Family Day Community Skate -PNE Agrodome – February 12th

A community skate happens Monday, February 12th at the PNE Agrodome from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.  Note, no rentals. You will need to bring your own skates and helmets which are required for all children 12 and younger.  Adults $3,Seniors/Youth (13-18): $2.50 and   Children (3-12): $2.00 and those 2 years and under are free.

Free Ice Skating/Kids Activities – Britannia Community Centre – February 12th

You are invited to come out and enjoy free ice skating at the ice rink at Britannia Community Centre from 1:00 to 3:30 pm.  There will also be arts and crafts available for kids.

Epic DVD Sale – Black Dog Video – 1470 Commercial Drive – February 15th 

If you are looking to stock up on your favourite movies to hold you over this wet Spring, you may wish to check out the Epic DVD Sale at Black Dog Video.  Sale happens Thursday, February 15th  at 1470 Commercial Drive from 9:00 to 11:00 pm.

Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival is happening at the Rio Theatre this weekend. If you love the old delta blues, swing, jazz and ragtime music, then you best head over to The Wise Hall this Friday night.  Blue Moon Marquee  will be performing along with Gillian Moranz and The Milk Crate Bandits.

The Italian Christmas Market – Italian Cultural Centre – November 24, 2017

If you can believe it, Christmas is just over a month away.  Although hard to wrap one’s head around.  If you want to get a jump on your gift shopping, check out the The Italian Christmas Market at the Italian Cultural Centre happening from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm. We love that this is an evening event, lots of great local vendors plus food trucks.

June Hunter – Studio Sale – November 25, 2017

East Van artist, June Hunter, is having a one day studio sale this weekend Saturday, November 25th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.   June has a great selection of prints, art, jewellery, coasters the majority feature some aspect of nature. Whether you are looking for a birthday gift or Christmas gift, stop by June’s studio for some civilized leisurely shopping in the comfort of her studio. We expect there will be some cookies and refreshments on hand. Studio is located in the back of 2785 Parker Street. 

3rd Annual Burlesque Marathon – Rio Theatre – November 25, 2017 

The Rio Theatre hosts 25 burlesque dancers who will be performing for the camera to apply for festivals and competitions around the world. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door.

Entertainment, Comedy + Live Theatre

Looking to take in a movie this weekend, don’t forget the good folks at Black Dog Video on Commercial Drive with an excellent selection of videos this winter. Accordion Noir Festival – Russian Hall – September 7-10, 2017

The 10th Annual Accordion Noir Festival kicked off at the Russian Hall on September 7th. There is a full line up of festivities this weekend. If you wish to kick up your heels, check out this event. Further information is available at Accordion Noir Festival.

Vancouver Fringe Festival – September 7-17, 2017

The Vancouver Fringe Festival has officially kicked off and there are a number of great shows happening during the Festival. You can find out what it’s like to be in a blind man’s shoes in Bombay Black on now at The Cultch, or check out some young new talent in Cry Baby The Musical at The Firehall Arts Centre.

Tango Lessons – Italian Cultural Centre – September 8, 2017

In case you missed it, the Italian Cultural Centre is hosting weekly tango lessons every Friday night until the end of October. Classes run from 6:00 – 7:30 pm. Cost is $20 per person per class, or you can register by the month at a cost of $60.

Studio Sale – June Hunter – September 9, 2017

One of our favourite East Van artists, June Hunter, who features nature in her work is having a 1 day Studio Sale this weekend. Her work includes prints, tiles, jewellery, art, calendars and much more.   It’s a great little space near Hastings Sunrise at 2785 Parker Street and takes place from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Drive-In Movie – River District – September 9, 2017

Drive-In Movies are back at River District in SE Vancouver starting Saturday, September 9th.  The evening hosts a double feature starting off with Cars 3 at 7:45 pm and Baby Driver at 10:00 pm. Cost is $20 per carload for one movie and $30 per carload for 2 movies.  Gates open at 6:45 pm and is first come first serve.

Cops and Kids – Grandview Park – September 10, 2017

Between Noon and 3:00 pm you are invited to stop by with the kids for a safety-oriented event being held in Grandview Park. Families have the opportunity to meet and interact with VPD officers, police dogs and horses.  Also on hand, will be first responders, transit police, members of the Vancouver Fire Department and BC Ambulance service.   The event includes activity stations such as the  Bike Rodeo and the Mini POPAT (Police Officer Physical Abilities Training). This is a free event. Everyone welcome to attend.

Fall Fair – McSpadden Park (Victoria & 5th) – September 10, 2017

If you are looking for more free family fun, you may wish to check out the Fall Fair happening on Sunday, September 10th.  The festivities happen from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm and include a host of activities such as zucchini races and square dancing. We hear you will find real cows, pies, delish canned goods and much more.

If it’s movies you are after, Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Sequel – Truth to Power is playing  at the Rio Theatre this Sunday at 2:15 pm.  If you are looking for free movies, Britannia Community Centre is back showing Sunday evening movies from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. This weekend, her working studio will be transformed to showcase all her creative works which include jewellery, small prints, large scale wall art, crow-bars, wall decals as well as some discontinued items.  Her rescue dog Geordie will again be on hand as ambassador to greet you. This weekend, her working studio will be transformed to showcase all her creative works which include jewellery, small prints, large scale wall art, crow-bars, wall decals as well as some discontinued items. Befitting June’s fondness for crows, you will find Valentine Day cookies available with crows and hot chocolate to keep you warm while you shop.  Her rescue dog Geordie will be on hand as ambassador to greet you.
