JFL Northwest Hosts Vancouver’s Comedy Festival – March 1st to 10th 

The Vancouver Comedy Festival is on now with a host of talent in town. Events are happening around the City, but lots of events happening locally at the Rio Theatre, Fox Cabaret and Biltmore Cabaret. To see what’s on where, visit JFL Northwest.com.

Lanterns In The Garden –  Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Chinese Gardens – March 2, 3 & 4

This is the last weekend to catch Lanterns In The Gardens at Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Chinese Gardens. They have thousands of beautiful lanterns on display in their gardens.   There are themed lanterns handmade by local artists as well as do-it-yourself lantern making, a photo booth and more.  Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for children and seniors or $45 for a family package.   Event happens from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Meet Members of the NPA – Drive Coffee Bar – March 3rd

If you are interested in chatting with those running for office in the upcoming civic election, The Drive Coffee Bar is inviting the political parties to come have coffee with local residents and answers questions. This Saturday, March 3rd at 10:30 am members of the NPA will be on hand. Stop by and get your questions answered in person.

Grandview Woodland Community Seed Library Launch – March 4th

Love gardening and want to pick up some seeds? Or maybe you wish to chat with other gardenrs to learn more about gardening? Then stop in to the launch of the Grandview Woodland Seed Library Sunday, March 4th. You are invited to stop by on and sign up for a free membership between 1:00 and 3:00 pm.  From 3:00 to 4:00 pm, there will be an interactive workshop on garden planning.  This is a free event and open to all ages.  To register, email gwcseedlibrary@gmail.com. The event happens at the Canucks Family Education Centre at Britannia Community Centre.

PSS PSS – York Theatre – Until March 4th 

This is the last weekend to catch PSS PSS at the York Theatre.  PSS comes to Vancouver via Switzerland and is an all ages show with daring acrobatics that have been performed over 600 times on 5 continents. Take 65 minutes with your family and go laugh it up.  For tickets, visit The Cultch.

 

Art Of Making Lotions, Potions & Scrubs–Trout Lake Community Centre – March 7th
Iona Bonamis will be leading a hands-on workshop Wednesday, March 7th at Trout Lake Community Centre. You will learn step-by-step instructions on how to make your own body care and household products. Cost is $47.62. Last we saw there were only 5 spots remaining. Comedy, Live Music & Entertainment

Live music at Café Deux Soleils this Saturday night. Cumbia Galera and Joshua Job members of Breaking Boundaries will be on hand to perform.  The Winter Farmer Markets continue with Saturday’s being held at Nat Bailey Stadium from 10 am to 2 pm and Sunday at Hastings Parking 10 am – 2 pm.  To see more of what’s on in East Vancouver, check our Event Listing.

Hop Circuit 2017 – East Van Craft Breweries Open House

HopCurcuitApril30thIf you like beer and want to drink beer, talk about beer or learn more about how it’s made, Hop Circuit is the place to be this Sunday, April 30th. East Van breweries and distilleries open their doors for the afternoon and allow you behind the scences access to their breweries. After last year’s smashing success, the event is back for its second year.  You can partake in this event by doing your own self-guided walking or cycling tour, or you can sign up with Vancouver Brewery Tours who will drive you to the various breweries. There are some 14 breweries participating which are located in the Strathcona, Hastings Sunrise and Grandview Woodland areas.  The day would not be complete without food trucks which will be scattered around the area in full force for the day, so fear not food will always be close at hand.  We’ve learnt that The Reef’s Food Truck will be located at Strange Fellows Brewing on Clark Drive, Aussie Pie Guy at Callister Brewing and the Community Pizzeria at Storm Brewing, but you will find many more around this area which is now affectionately known as “Yeast Van”.  The event runs from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. East FEAST: A Micro Funding Event For Artists At Britannia Community Centre June 28

EastFEASTEast FEAST  (Funding Emerging Artists through Sustainable Tactics) is a micro-funding event that supports artists living and working in the neighbourhoods of Grandview-Woodland and Strathcona. East FEAST is hosting a Feast on Sunday June 28th at the Britannia Community Centre from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. During the course of the event, you will have the opportunity to meet and listen to 3 artists, each of whom will make a 5-7 minute presentation.  At the end of the FEAST, attendees will vote on which artist they would like to see funded.  The chosen artist will receive a grant from the funds raised by the event ticket sales of up to $1000.  Tickets for the event are $20.00 per person and available in person at Britannia Info Centre, 1661 Napier Street or by phone at 604.718.5800 (1). Come out and support the local arts.

East FEAST Call To Artists: Micro Funding Event Supporting Local Artists

East FEAST  (Funding Emerging Artists through Sustainable Tactics) is a micro-funding event that supports artists living and working in the neighbourhoods of Grandview-Woodland and Strathcona. East FEAST relies on community engagement to be successful.

East FEAST hosts a community meal that raises funds through ticket sales to the event which in turn directly funds an artist or artist group. Community members will be invited to participate by attending a meal in support of local artists. The FEAST is scheduled for June 28, 2015  2-4 pm.  Those who attend will enjoy food specifically created and prepared for the event by a local chef/caterer as well as entertainment. You will also have the opportunity to meet and listen to 3 artists each of whom will make a 5-7 minute presentation during the event.  At the end of the FEAST, attendees will vote on which artist they would like to see funded.  The chosen artist will receive a grant from the funds raised by the event ticket sales of up to $1000.

What they are looking for now is local artists to apply to participate in East FEAST.  Applicants must work or live in Grandview-Woodlands or Strathcona community. Also, proposed projects must take place in Grandview-Woodland and Strathcona neighbourhoods.  One artist will receive funding of $1,000 and honorariums of $100 will be presented to the two semi-finalists. Are you a local artist with a great idea for a project in the specified areas?  Why not apply for a grant.  To learn more about the specific requirements for artists, visit East FEAST or email questions to eastfeastvancouver@gmail.com. Great Grandview Garage Sale Saturday June 21st 10 am – 2 pm

GreatGrandviewGarageSaleAll bargain and vintage hunters it’s time to mark your calendars.  The area of Grandview-Woodland will be holding their first ever Great Grandview Garage Sale on Saturday, June 21st from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm.  This is a multi-family garage sale that takes place all throughout the Grandview Woodland area of East Vancouver. Specifically from Broadway to the Burrard Inlet and from Clark Drive to Nanaimo Street.  If you live in the area, you are invited to participate and it is FREE to sign up. Whether you live in a home, walk up apartment building, co-operative housing, no matter, everyone is welcome to participate.  If you are the one looking for those bargains or vintage finds, think of it is one big treasure hunt.  Who knows what you might across in your travels.  The Great Grandview Garage Sale will go ahead rain or shine 10:00 am – 2:00 pm.
