Weekly Stories Are Back At The Drive Coffee Bar Starting September 19th

WeeklySTories2018If you love storytelling, whether watching or listening to them in an intimate setting, then you may wish to check out Weekly Stories at The Drive Coffee Bar, 1670 Commercial Drive located near 1st Avenue.  This 1 hour storytelling show which took a hiatus over the summer is now back weekly starting Wednesday, September 19th.  Weekly Stories is hosted by storyteller and organizer extraordinaire Jo Dworschak of Story Story Lie and Coop Radio’s Fruit Salad.  You will hear tales from some seasoned storytellers, but each week they do try and get a new face up to take a turn.  The venue is a favourite of ours for the great coffee, selection of Cartem Donuts and some of the best sandwiches in the City by La Grotta del Fromaggio plus they also serve wine and beer.  Event runs from 7:00 pm every Wednesday night.  Admission is by donation. Story Story Lie Goes Back To School September 5th At The Rio Theatre

storyStoryLieInLightsIt’s time to go back to school with Story Story Lie on September 5th. You are invited to the Rio Theatre to see if you can spot the liar.  If you are not familiar with the premise of this show, it is an interactive show where some of Vancouver’s best entertainers share intimate, funny and often embarrassing stories about themselves. One of them is lying and telling you a tall tale. But which one?   The audience gets to take part in the interrogation to reveal who the liar is. And the first audience member to guess the liar, wins the grand prize as well as bragging rights. The contestants for the Back To School Story Story Lie are Jon Bennett (The Moth), Conni Smudge (Drag Queen),  John Cullen (Just For Laughs),  Andrea Jin (Comedian), Gustavo Ferman (Dancer & Entertainer), Marty Lawton (Irish Actress) and host Jo Dworschak.   The Westender calls this show “One of the most inventive events on the Vancouver arts calendar” Tickets are available in advance online at Rio Theatre for $10 online or $12 at the door. Fun gets under way at 7:00 pm and runs till 8:30 pm.

Oh Man! At Havana Theatre December 8 & 9, 2017

OhManOh Man! is coming to Havana Theatre this Friday and Saturday.  Jo Dworschak, creator and producer of Story Story Lie, has put together a multimedia monologue about a mom trying to overcome her fear of men before having one.  With some assistance from TJ Dawe, a respected playwright, actor and director, Jo Dworschak has put together this autobiographical production which features some problematic relationships with men in her family life, to learn she’s pregnant and having a boy.  The production won Best Solo Show at the Montana Fringe Festival and this week’s show will be the first showing in Vancouver and possibly the last.  Jo bills this show as “humorous, heart warming and the perfect night out for the parent”.  You can catch her show Friday, December 8th and Saturday, December 9th at Havana Theatre. Tickets are $10 and available through Eventbrite or at the door. Show kicks off at 8:00 pm. Partial proceeds will be given to “Together We Can”, a support group to help me in need.

Story Story Lie Back At Café Deux Soleils Friday, January 13th

storystorylieIf you have yet to catch Story Story Lie, you are in luck it now has a regular monthly gig at Café Deux Soleils on The Drive. Story Story Lie happens every second Friday of the month at 8:00 pm with the next show happening Friday, January 13th. What’s it all about?  The show is part storytelling and part game show.  You will hear five embarrassing and intimate stories and one lie. Through some interrogation of the storytellers the audience gets to guess who the liar is. First one to guess wins a prize.  Organizers have a great line up of storytellers for the first show of 2017 including  local comedian, Ivan Decker, who has been featured on The Debators along with Zain Mejhi of the Daily Hive, as well as comedians Mufaro Mbudzi and Alison Ogilvie and poet, Andrew Warner, Now if you have a strange story to tell or a lie you’d like to see featured at Story Story Lie to make things more interesting, you are invited to submit it by email storystorylie@gmail.com in advance of each show. Each evening will be hosted and produced by Jo Dworschak and gets under way at 8:00 pm with doors at 7:00 pm. Tickets are available via Eventbrite for $6 in advance and $8 at the door. Can you spot the liar?

Do you think you can spot a liar a mile away? Well now you can find out, in a rather fun way. The show is part storytelling and part game show.  You will hear five embarrassing and intimate stories and one lie. Through some interrogation the audience gets to guess who the liar is. First one to guess wins a prize.  Storytellers for the upcoming show include Jayson MacDonald (Famed Fringe Performer), RC Weslowski (Waxed Poetic Radio), Yumi Nagashima (International Stand up comedian), Nyla Carpentier (Poet, Actor and Powwow Dancer) and Steve Allen (Komedy at Kino).  The evening will be hosted and produced by Jo Dworschak.  The show gets under way at 8:00 pm. You can purchase your tickets in advance on Eventbrite for $6, or at the door for $8. Come out and see if you can spot the liar.

It’s a new monthly show taking place  Café Deux Soleils that is part storytelling and part game show.  You will hear four stories and one lie. If you can spot the liar, you will win a prize.  Storytellers include TJ Dawe, Andy Cañete, Riel Hahn, Justin Ö’Hearn and Maia Gibb. The evening will be hosted by Jo Dworschak.  The show gets under way at 8:00 pm and cover is a very reasonable $5. Come out and see if you can spot the liar.  Note, this show is being recorded for a podcast.
