The Rocky Horror Picture Show With The Geekenders – Rio – October 25 & 27 

If you need your fix of the Rocky Horror Picture Show and want to do the time warp, you are in luck!  The Rio Theatre has a whole lot of options coming up starting with a late showing this Friday night at 11: 30 pm.  Note advance tickets are sold out, but we understand some tickets will be available at the door. But if you miss Friday’s showing, it happens again Sunday night at 10:00 pm.

Free Teen Swim (Grades 8-12) – Templeton Park Pool – October 25

If you know teens in Grades 8-12 who love to swim or just play in the water, Templeton Park Pool is hosting a free swim Friday night which includes pumpkins in the water, relay games and prizes.  Fun happens between 8:00 pm and 9:30 pm.

All Hallow’s Eve Costume Party – Strange Fellows Brewing – October 25

Want to ease into the Halloween fun, Strange Fellows Brewing, 1345 Clark Drive, is hosting an All Hallow’s Eve Costume Party this Friday.  DJ Alex will be spinning tunes, plus there will be a costume contest along with musical chairs, prizes and of course a special cask – Blackmail Stout with Chipotle.

Halloween Party – Libra Room – October 26

Looking to get decked out in your best Halloween costume?  The Libra Room, 1608 Commercial Drive, is hosting a Halloween party this Saturday night.  There will be a live DJ and prizes and best costume wins $250 cash prize. Nothing to sneeze at.

All Souls Night – Mountain View Cemetery – October 26

The 15th Annual All Souls Night begins this Saturday, October 26th at Mountainview Cemetery. This is an opportunity to commemorate those we’ve lost with personal memorial making, music and art.  This is a free family friendly event. Everyone is welcome to participate. Event happens rain or shine between 6:30 and 10:00 pm this Saturday.

Halloween House of Horrors – SE Vancouver – October 25, 26 & 27

If you are looking to get a head start into the Halloween spirit or maybe get your own decorating ideas, you are invited to take a wander through the Halloween House of Horrors at 2270 Skipper Lane in SE Vancouver. The hours are Friday and Saturday from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm and Sunday is an All Day Family Funday. Admission is by donation to the Vancouver Food Bank either cash or non-perishable food item.

Volunteers Needed  – Templeton Welcome Garden – October 26

Don’t have a garden of your own and want to get your hands dirty? Hastings Community Centre is looking for volunteers to help revitalize the Welcome Community Garden in front of Templeton Park Pool this Saturday.  You are invited to come meet other local residents while planting some indigenous plants. Coffee and tools supplied. You just need to bring yourself and a reusable coffee mug.  Gardening happens between 10:00 am and Noon.

The Best of Fringe – REPLAY – Havana Theatre – October 25 & 26

If you missed the Fringe this year, this is your last weekend to catch REPLAY, some of the best shows from the Fringe at Havana Theatre this Friday and Saturday.   To see which production is playing on which day/evening, visit Havana Vancouver which also takes to Showpass if you wish to purchase tickets.

Fright Nights – Playland – This Weekend

Fright Nights is on now almost nightly until October 31st at Playland. If you love being scared out of your wits, this if for you.

Also 7 days a week, you will find live music at the Libra Room on The Drive. Tangent Café hosts live jazz Sunday nights  from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. Saturday, Pat’s Pub has live jazz Saturday afternoons from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm, no cover.

Looking to shop and support local? Be sure to check out one of the farmer markets happening this weekend. Saturday It’s ONLY one market.  Trout Lake is done for the season, so it’s Riley Park Farmers Market at 30th & Ontario from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and/or Sunday, Mount Pleasant Farmers Market is at Dude Chilling Park from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Vancouver Gem & Mineral Show – PNE Forum – March 21st – 23rd

The Vancouver Gem & Mineral Show kicks off at 1:00 pm on Friday and runs till the end of the weekend. There is a long list of exhibitors with a beautiful array of items.  Bonus is children 12 and under are free with a paying adult.

Hot Honey Brown – The Cultch – To March 30th 

Hot Honey Brown continues this weekend The Cultch. Don’t miss this wild ride from Australia that brings six sassy women on stage who are here to make some noise and smash some stereotypes.  Tickets start at $22 and are available online at The Cultch.

Jesus Christ: The Lost Years – Havana Theatre – March 22nd and 23rd

If you ever wondered what Jesus might have been up to between the ages of 13 and 30 well this weekend’s your chance.  Monster Theatre brings Jesus Christ: The Lost Years to Havana Theatre for a couple more nights this Friday and Saturday.  Tickets are available online $15-$20 through Showpass.

Musical Intergenerational Event – Trout Lake Community Centre – March 23rd

This Saturday morning, Trout Lake Community Centre is hosting a Musical Intergenerational Event for the whole family.  You are invited to come and dance and sing along to the music from 10:30 am to 11:45 am. This is an all ages event and cost is $1.00 per person.

East End History Walk With James Johnstone – 696 East Hastings St. – March 23rd

Screaming Chickens Theatrical Society Monthly Taboo Revue – Wise Hall – March 23rd

The Screaming Chickens Theatrical Society are hosting their monthly burlesque variety show at the Wise Hall this Saturday night. This is a 19+ show.  Show gets under way at 9:00 pm.

Movie ‘A Star is Born’ – Rio Theatre – March 23rd

If you haven’t yet managed to see A Star Is Born, you get your chance this Saturday night at the Rio Theatre. Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga blend their talents for this passionate story. Movie kicks off at 8:30 pm.  If you can’t make it Saturday, it shows again on Monday at 8:45 pm at the Rio.

Girls Like That – Templeton Secondary School – November 2 – 10, 2017

Growing up a girl is frought with pitfalls, in the digital age they have become land mines.  Girls Like That showcases what it’s like growing up a girl in this technological age, but there are many other messages hidden in this production for everyone.  If you are a woman, any age, you should see this. Tickets are a very reasonable $10 and available through Eventbrite. The cast features high school students from the Lower Mainland including several from Templeton Secondary School. This is about as real as it gets. See it.

Icons Vintage Market – 1024 Main Street – November 3, 2017

Love vintage? Head over to ICONS Vintage Market this Friday, November 3rd at the Eastside Flea, 1024 Main Street. The event features vintage clothing, vinyl records, housewares, music, unique finds, food and drink specials along with pinball and a DJ.  Doors open at 6:00 pm. Admission is $3. This is an all ages event.

Square Dance – Wise Hall – November 3, 2017

If you always wanted to learn how to square dance, now’s your chance.  Professor Bango, Paul Silveria, is hosting an evening at the Wise Hall this Friday. This is a beginner friendly event. Tickets are $15 online or $20 at the door. 

Take Flight – Arts Factory – November 4, 2017 

You are invited to come celebrate 21 years of art creation at Eastside Culture Crawl’s 2017 launch party and benefit this Saturday. The first part of the evening is a reception with cocktails and appetizers and the first to get your hands on our 2017 program guide. At 8:30 pm, they open the doors to the public opening of the LIT Preview Exhibit  featuring 2017 Culture Crawl artists. 

East Van Opry – Rio Theatre – November 4, 2017 

Lots of local talent packed into the East Van Opry happening Saturday night at the Rio Theatre.  This event now in its 5th features country music and much more. Tickets are $24 in advance or $28 at the door.

Winter Farmers Market – November 4 & 5, 2017

Vancouver Farmer Markets kick off their winter markets this weekend.  Saturday’s market is at Nat Bailey Stadium from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Sunday’s market at Hastings Park on the PNE centregrounds also from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.  Come out and support your local growers and makers

Big Top Tuesday – Libra Room – November 7, 2017

Starting Tuesday, November 7th, Big Top returns to their famed weekly residency at The Libra Room. Music kicks off at 8:00 pm and winds down at 11:00 pm.

This Friday, Rio Theatre is hosting Fairytale Burlesque.  If you looking for a movie to check out to say indoors, the Rio is showing V For Vendetta with Natalie Portman this Sunday at 6:00 pm. Live Jazz Music At Tangent Café During International Jazz Festival

JazzDoubleBassThe Vancouver  International Jazz Festival kicks off June 18th and continues to  July 1st in and around Vancouver. The festival is now in its 30th year and features 1,800 artists from Canada and around the world.  There are 300 performances during the course of the festival that take place at 35 different venues around the City.   East Van’s Tangent Café located at 2095 Commercial Drive regularly features live jazz music and for this year’s jazz festival, will have a steady line up of talent to showcase. We’ve set out their schedule below along with the start times. There is a $10 cover charge for all of the shows.
