Winter Farmer Markets In East Van From November 5, 2022 to April 30, 2023

Vancouver Farmers Markets hosts two winter markets in East Vancouver.  First up is the Hastings Park Farmers Market which returns for another year and happens every Sunday from November 6, 2022 to April 30, 2023. The market is located on the PNE Centregrounds and is always a popular market.  Second up, is the Riley Park Farmers Market which carries on in the same location as the summer market at 50 East 30th & Ontario Street every Saturday from November 5, 2022 to March 25, 2023.  Both markets run from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and as always are jam packed with lots of great local goods. Be sure to stop by and support our local growers and makers. If you wish to learn more about what vendors will be on site at each market, be sure to visit www.eatlocal.org.

Summer weather may be gone, but farmer markets continue into the Fall and Winter seasons. As always, we encourage you to support our local growers and makers.  In East Van, you have 2 great markets to choose from.

Riley Park Farmers Market – Every Saturday  10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Riley Park Farmers Market is in fact a year round market that happens every Saturday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at 30th & Ontario. They officially transition from a summer to winter market on Saturday, November 6th. This is a great space located next to a community garden with ample parking and located on a bike route.

Hastings Park Farmers Market – Every Sunday 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

The Hastings Park Farmers Market runs every Sunday from November 7, 2021 to April 24, 2022. The market is located on the Centre Grounds of Hastings Park.

Eye Spy Creates Drone Images Over PNE/Hastings Park

It’s Friday and if all goes well, one day soon we will be able to attend the PNE in person and enjoy live events again. Fingers crossed. In the meantime, we’d like to share this cool drone aerial video taken over PNE/Hastings Park by Eye Spy. They invite you to try and Find The Hidden Objects which truth be told we found a bit hard to see. But we will say the aerial view, along with the relaxing music, provides for a moment to just enjoy the view and forget about everything else going on in the world.

This year more than ever, we encourage you to support our local growers and makers.  In East Van, you have 2 options to choose from depending on your location. COVID-19 safety protocols are in place in both locations. Visit Vancouver Farmer Markets for more details on their protocols.

Aurora Winter Festival At Hastings Park/PNE November 22, 2019 to January 5, 2020

Looking for something fun and seasonal to do?  Canada’s largest winter festival comes to Hastings Park and the PNE with the Aurora Winter Festival.  The festival will have a wide array of events to keep the whole family entertained.  There will be both indoor and outdoor activities. You can wander the Luminous Gardens, Whimsical Forest, Polar Passage and the Land of Giants.  Or stop by and meet Santa Claus at the North Pole which will have a crafty section for kids.  While there you can write a letter to Santa which we hear gets delivered to the North Pole.  There will also be an outdoor skating rink as well as amazing light display. For shopping, expect to find a Christmas Market. If you get hungry, there will be food gardens. For fun, there will also be a tube park along with other amusement rides.  Tickets for the event are available from TicketLeader. Tickets are purchased by the hour you arrive ie. 2:00 – 3:00 pm, 3:00 – 4:00 pm and most ticket prices are approximately $20 adults, $15 for children and a family pass for $62, but note if you wish to get their earlier in the day, there is a $2 discount per ticket for those that wish to get an early start on the experience.

UPDATE ON HOURS: For those wishing to attend the Aurora Winter Festival during the week, organizers have advised they are realigning their hours and will be closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for the following dates: December 3, 4, 10 and 11).

PNE Pumpkin Promenade November 1 At Hastings Park: Food Waste Diversion Project

PNEPumpkinPromenadeWhat do you do with your pumpkin after Halloween? There is of course composting, a very good option, but there is another option this year. The PNE is doing something very cool that reduces waste, does something positive for the environment and animals and is fun. On Friday, November 1st between 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm you are invited to bring your pumpkin(s) to a FREE PNE PUMPKIN PROMENADE at the Hastings Park Sports Court. All the pumpkins will be lit up and put on display. After the event, volunteers for Pumpkins For Pigs will round up all the pumpkins which will be delivered to local farms and made into treats for animals as part of a Food Waste Diversion Project. Tim Horton’s Kaslo will have hot chocolate and snacks on hand, but you are asked to bring your own cup.

NOTE: Pumpkins should not have black markings. If they do, you are asked to remove it with rubbing alcohol. All candles and dripped waxed must be removed prior to the event. Organizers will provide flameless candles.

Make It! – PNE Forum – April 19th to 21st 

Make It! Vancouver is at the PNE Forum Friday to Sunday with over 200 makers.  Lots of great vendors including some local favs East Van Light, East Van Jam, Sarah Mulder Jewellery, Mameyo with beautiful handcrafted leather goods and Royal City Donuts, I mean honestly who doesn’t love donuts? Admission is $6.00 for adults, children 12 and under are free.  Purchase your advance ticket online and save 50%.  To purchase your  ticket, visit Eventbrite.

Easter Family Event – Britannia Community Centre – April 20th 

Britannia Community Centre is hosting a free Easter Family Event in Gym D from Noon to 2:00 pm.  There will be a bouncy castle, games, crafts and of course treats for the kids.

Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory – Rio Theatre April 20th 

A classic movie is playing at the Rio Theatre this Saturday Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory. This is Gene Wilder at his best in his role as emperor of the world’s great candy empire. This is an all ages show that gets under way at 3:15 pm. To get your advance tickets, visit The Rio Theatre

Eggstravaganza – Hastings Park – April 21st

The Vancouver Farmers Market has teamed up with local egg producers to bring Eggstravaganza to Hastings Parking this Sunday.  They will have live chickens on hand, a heirloom egg display and free natural egg dyeing. Hastings Park Farmers Market happens from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm

Britannia Ice Rink – Free Skate – April 22nd

Britannia Ice Rink hosting a FREE public skate from 1:00 – 3:30 pm.  Skate rental included.

Earth Day – Everett Crowley Park – April 27th (NOTE CORRECTED DATE)

A great group of volunteers gather every year to plant trees in Everett Crowley Park in SE Vancouver. Everett Crowley Park is a 38-hectare large forested park and if you don’t know, was once a garbage dump. It is now Vancouver’s 5th largest park.  Saturday, April 27th, you can help plant one of a 1,000 trees from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. There will also be face painting for the kids and the opportunity to make your own chia pet courtesy of the folks at River District.

Documentary ‘Free Solo’ – Rio Theatre – April 22nd

Final screening of the documentary Free Solo happens at the Rio Theatre this Monday.  FREE SOLO is an Oscar nominated production that showcases the stunning, intimate and unflinching portrait of the free soloist climber who prepares to achieve his lifelong dream: climbing the face of the world’s most famous rock, the 3,000 foot El Capitan in Yosemite National Park without a rope. This is an edge-of-your seat thriller.  Free Solo shows Monday at 3:30 pm. For tickets, visit the Rio Theatre.

Looking for more live music, did you know The Heatley in Strathcona regularly features live music?  Every Sunday they offer bluegrass music with brunch 11 am – 3 pm.

Also 7 days a week, you will find live music at the Libra Room on The Drive. Tangent Café hosts live jazz Sunday nights  from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. Saturday, Pat’s Pub has live jazz Saturday afternoons from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm, no cover.

The Vancouver Gem & Mineral Show kicks off at 1:00 pm on Friday and runs till the end of the weekend. There is a long list of exhibitors with a beautiful array of items.  Bonus is children 12 and under are free with a paying adult.

Hot Honey Brown – The Cultch – To March 30th 

Hot Honey Brown continues this weekend The Cultch. Don’t miss this wild ride from Australia that brings six sassy women on stage who are here to make some noise and smash some stereotypes.  Tickets start at $22 and are available online at The Cultch.

Jesus Christ: The Lost Years – Havana Theatre – March 22nd and 23rd

If you ever wondered what Jesus might have been up to between the ages of 13 and 30 well this weekend’s your chance.  Monster Theatre brings Jesus Christ: The Lost Years to Havana Theatre for a couple more nights this Friday and Saturday.  Tickets are available online $15-$20 through Showpass.

Musical Intergenerational Event – Trout Lake Community Centre – March 23rd

This Saturday morning, Trout Lake Community Centre is hosting a Musical Intergenerational Event for the whole family.  You are invited to come and dance and sing along to the music from 10:30 am to 11:45 am. This is an all ages event and cost is $1.00 per person.

East End History Walk With James Johnstone – 696 East Hastings St. – March 23rd

Screaming Chickens Theatrical Society Monthly Taboo Revue – Wise Hall – March 23rd

Movie ‘A Star is Born’ – Rio Theatre – March 23rd

If you haven’t yet managed to see A Star Is Born, you get your chance this Saturday night at the Rio Theatre. Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga blend their talents for this passionate story. Movie kicks off at 8:30 pm.  If you can’t make it Saturday, it shows again on Monday at 8:45 pm at the Rio.
