Everything falls apart in this hilarious comedy about a lesbian couple who try to make their dreams come true of running a bed and breakfast out in the country.  They live with unusual neighbours, serve unconventional guests, and receive the help they desperately need from the unlikeliest sources.  Tickets are $20 and available online from Leaping Thespians.

Rocky Horror Picture Show – Rio Theatre – March 16th

If you love the Rocky Horror Picture Show, the Rio Theatre is hosting another showing for their late movie this Friday night. Doors at 11:00 pm, show gets under way at 11:30 pm.

The After After Party – The Cultch – Until March 17th 

If you are looking for a shameless night of fun with the girls, we hear this is the show to see.  It’s wild, it’s outrageous but at the heart is the essence of female friendship.  This is the last weekend to catch The After After Party at The Cultch. For tickets, visit The Cultch.

History Walk With James Johnstone March 17th

Gem & Mineral Show – Hastings Community Centre – March 17th & 18th

If you love rocks, gems and want to learn more about them, you have a great opportunity to do just that at the Rock & Mineral Show happening this weekend. The event happens at the Hastings Community Centre, 3086 East Hastings Street from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm this Saturday and Sunday. Admission is by donation.

First Pick Handmade YVR – Heritage Hall – March 17th and 18th

Over 30 designers from across Canada will be featuring some unique items at First Pick Handmade YVR happening at the Heritage Hall this Saturday and Sunday.  Happens Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. Admission is $3.00.

Looking for some fun and humour, The Dirty Betty Show happens at Café Deux Soleils this Friday at 8:30 pm. Don’t forget Tangent Café hosts live jazz music every Sunday evening at 6:00 pm. This week it’s Braveheart & Cole Schmidt. JFL Northwest, Vancouver’s Comedy Festival To Take Place March 1 – 10, 2018

JustForLaughsIt’s time to laugh!  Every time we watch the news, we think the world’s gone mad and then think, we really need to laugh more often.  If you are feeling the same way, or just need a good laugh, you have lots of great opportunities to do just that during the upcoming Vancouver Comedy Festival. This event happens at various venues around the City between March 1st and March 10th including the Fox Cabaret, Little Mountain Gallery, Biltmore Cabaret and the Rio Theatre in East Vancouver.  There is an amazing line up of talent including a personal favourite Debra Digiovanni who plays The Comedy Mix March 1st to 3rd. Don’t miss a chance to see her sarcastic wit. In East Van, you will find Sasheer Zamata on March 2nd at the Biltmore Cabaret. Name sound familiar? Think Saturday Night Live cast member for 4 seasons.   Ronny Chieng will be at the Rio Theatre March 3rd and 4th, a well travelled comedian whose most recent gig is a correspondent on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah on Comedy Central. We have our eye on Vir Das who will be playing the Rio Theatre on March 8th and Tinder Tales happening at the Fox Cabaret March 3rd. 2nd Annual Live Burlesque Tribute To David Bowie – Rio Theatre – January 12th

In honour of David Bowie’s passing, the ladies of Kitty Nights present a burlesque tribute to the one and only, David Bowie. Show takes place at the Rio Theatre. Event kicks off at 8:00 pm and tickets are available in advance online for $20, or at the door for $25.

River District – Open House – January 13th & 15th

City of Vancouver and Wesgroup Properties are hosting two open houses so the public can provide input on increasing density in Area 3. This plot of land is located in the far East end of the development by Boundary Road. For those that have thoughts on this latest development, stop by and provide your feedback. There are a number of issues that need addressing including transit, transportation and general amenities in the area. The open house is being held at 8683 Kerr Street on Saturday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm and Monday, January 15th from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Holiday Puppet Show – 2050 Scotia Street – January 14, 2017

If you have young kids to entertain this weekend, you may wish to check out a puppet show entitled ‘The Winter’s Tales” being presented by The Vancouver Puppet Theatre.  The show is happening ta 2050 Scotia Street near East 2nd Street and Main Street. Vegan Italian Baking 101 – Italian Cultural Centre – January 15th

Learn to bake some delicious homemade treats from scratch without dairy or eggs. You will learn to make 3 different pastries including a chocolate and almond cake and a crostata which you will be able to eat or take home. Earthquake Preparedness Workshop – Sunset Community Centre – January 16th

Sunset Community is hosting a free workshop to help you and your family get prepared in the event of an earthquake, but really any emergency.  Having attended one of these, there are some great tips you can take away from it, even if you don’t complete a full earthquake kit. We recommend you take the 1 ½ hours and attend this free workshop provided by the City of Vancouver. This one gets under way at 7:00 pm on January 16th. To register, visit City of Vancouver.

Grappa Tasting – Italian Cultural Centre – January 18th

If you love grappa, or want to learn more about it, Italian Cultural Centre is hosting a Grappa Tasting event on the evening of January 18th. Tickets are $52 and available online at the Italian Cultural Centre.

Community Skate at PNE Agrodome – January 5th

PNE Agrodome is hosting another ice skating session Friday, January 5th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Cost is $3 for adult, $2.50 for youth/senior, $2 for kids 3-12 and kids under 2 are free. Note, there are no skate rentals or helmets, you will need to bring your own.

A Tolkien Burlesque Night – Rio Theatre – January 5th

The Geekenders & Kitty Glitter present Lord of the Schwings. If you are looking for a silly and sexy evening filled with hobbits, elves, wizards and burlesque, then grab your tickets $20 in advance or $25 at the door. See Rio Theatre for tickets.

Live Christmas Tree Chipping Event – Trout Lake – January 6th & 7th

For those that have a live Christmas tree and not the benefit of curb side pick up, there’s a chipping event at the Trout Lake Community Centre Parking Lot this weekend. Happens Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Note, there is also a chipping tree event Sunday, January 7th at the Kingsgate Mall Parking Lot 10-4.

East Van Panto – York Theatre – Until January 6th

75th Annual Golden Globes Award Viewing Party – Rio Theatre – January 7th 

This year Seth Meyers hosts the 75th Annual Globe Awards which should provide a good bit of entertainment.  Fittingly, The Rio Theatre is again opening its doors for those that wish to watch the winners announced en masse. This is a free event, but items at the snack bar are not, but he seats are. First come first serve.  Event happens 5:00 – 9:00 pm.

Dancing the Globalization of Hummus with Shiraz Ramji – The Cultch – January 8th

Did you know The Cultch is hosting free events once a month?  The event is called Dark Day Monday and each month anyone from the Vancouver community can teach others something new. It can be whatever you’d like it, maybe it’s hip hop dancing, a yoga class, tai chi, meditation, an 80s dance party, a cooking class, chess, you name it, options are almost limitless.  The Cultch is providing a space to learn, create and come together. The next in the series Dark Day #5 happening Monday, January 8th is Dancing The Globalization of Hummus with Shiraz Ramji. You are invited to come out learn how to make Vancouver’s best kept secret hummus recipes with Shiraz Ramji while dancing.  Things kick off at 6:00 pm.

Chinese Lantern Festival – The PNE – Dec. 15, 2017 to Jan. 21, 2018

This weekend kicks off a 5 week celebration of Chinese culture featuring massive lanterns, live performances, storytelling, food trucks including Beaver Tails and Red Velvet Mini Donuts along with baristas offering coffee, hot chocolate spiked with Baileys if you want it. There will be two live performances nightly Sunday to Thursday at 6:30 and 8:30 pm and Friday and Saturday 6:30 and 9:30 pm.   You can purchase tickets in advance online which gets you a better price or at the gate. Crafty Affaire – Croatian Cultural Centre – December 16, 2017

Crafty Affaire Market is a great spot to put a serious dent in your Christmas List all in one spot. You can expect to find an array of vendors showcasing handmade creations, one-of-a-kind treasures, some vintage items and we are hearing lots of edible treats for nibbling or gift giving. Crafty Affaire happens Saturday from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm.  Admission is $2.00.

June Hunter Studio Sale – 2785 Parker Street – Dec. 16 & 17, 2017

East Van artist, June Hunter, is hosting a 2 day studio sale this weekend. Women’s Winter Faire – Heritage Hall – Dec. 16 & 17, 2017

The 24th Annual Women’s Winter Faire happens at the Heritage Hall, 3102 Main Street, this Saturday and Sunday. Expect to find a range for items for gift giving for that lovely lady in your life including jewellery, clothing, gourmet foods and much more.  Event happens Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm.  Admission is by donation with $3-5 suggested which goes to support local charitable organizations.  We see since the inception of the Women’s Winter Faire, organizers have raised over $108,400 for local charities. Hats off to them!

If you are looking to kick up your heels, or well maybe watch someone else kick up their heels on stage, Rio Theatre has you covered this weekend.  Burlesque is happening Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Kitty Nights Presents Pee Wee’s Burlesque on Friday and Saturday, 8:00 pm start and Sunday it’s Harry Potter Christmas Burlesque.

They will also have a beer garden and food trucks to round out the shopping experience.   Make It! Is on Friday, December 8th from 11 am to 9 pm, Saturday, December 9th from 10 am to 6 pm and Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm.  Admission is $8, but they are offering a $2 off coupon on their website.

Over 480 artists open their studios to the public during the Eastside Culture Crawl. It is an amazing opportunity to check out all the talent that’s packed in Vancouver. Whether you go for a few hours or all day and/or evening we recommend checking out this event in some fashion. Lots to eat and nibble whilst you wander. Print Making Workshop – Strange Fellows Brewing – November 18 & 19, 2017

Only Drunks & Small Children Tell The Truth – Firehall Arts Centre – Nov. 11, 2017

A play written by Indigenous playwright Drew Hayden Taylor, Only Drunks and Children Tell The Truth comes to the Firehall Arts Centre this Saturday, November 11th. The story is a gripping account of the “60’s scoop-up” phenomenon, in which Native children were taken from their families, their communities, and their culture to be adopted into white households.  Tickets are available from the Firehall Arts Centre.

Funny Man Fundraiser – Rio Theatre – November 11, 2017

You’re invited to a comedy fundraiser being held at the Rio Theatre this Saturday night. A funny line up of talent includes Kyle Bottom, Mayce Galoni, Mike McGuire and others who will be taking the stage to help raise funds for Tumour Foundation of BC. This organization assists individuals with neurofibromatosis. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door.

Parade of Lost Souls – East Van – October 28, 2017

This iconic East Van produced by the Dusty Flowerpot happens Saturday night and will feature costumes, live music, Thriller Flash Mob, parade of lost souls of course. This year’s theme Alter Ego. Costumes are highly encouraged.  This is an all ages event with an after party at the Legion for the adults, if not sold out, which it generally is right before the event.

Halloween Drive-In Movies – River District – October 28 & 29, 2017

Wesgroup Properties and Fresh Air Cinemas brings you double feature drive-in movies to SE Vancouver along the Fraser River (Boundary Road and SE Marine Drive). Saturday, October 28th they will be starting off the evening with a showing of Casper followed by The Shining.  There will be a second round of movies Sunday, October 29th (rescheduled for the rained out event October 21st) with starts off with ET and is followed by Friday the 13th.  Perfect shows for Halloween weekend.  Cost if $20 per carload for 1 movie, $30 per carload for double feature.

Tango Lessons – Italian Cultural Centre – October 27, 2017

This Friday is your last chance to try a tango lesson at the Italian Cultural Centre. Drop is $20 and class runs from 6:00 – 7:30 pm.

Night For All Souls – Mountain View Cemetery – October 28, 2017 

The 13th Annual All Souls Night happens this Saturday from 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm at Mountain View Cemetery, 5455 Fraser Street.  The event creates a sanctuary for remembrance and reflection. You are encouraged to bring a lantern and candles as well as photos if you wish to create a memorial for a loved one in a gentle atmosphere of contemplative beauty. 2nd Annual Fall Harvest – Croatian Cultural Centre – October 28, 2017

Elemental Trends is hosting an artisan market this Saturday at the Croatian Cultural Centre from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Lots of great local vendors on hand. So if you are doing early Christmas shopping or trying to find that perfect birthday gift for someone, this would be a great spot to check out.

The Artisan’s Event – Heritage Hall – October 29, 2017

Another great opportunity to shop local is this Sunday at the Heritage Hall. The Artisan’s Event happens from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm.

David Myles – Wise Hall – October 29, 2017 

David Myles will be performing at the Wise Hall this Saturday bringing his soulful yet contemporary sound along with jazzy folk ditties and some infectious hip-hop. For tickets, which are a very reasonable $25, visit Ticket Zone.

Dream Horror Live Haunted House – Casa Verde – To October 31, 2017 

We’ve learnt that off a quiet little street in East Van in Cedar Cottage, there is a haunted house which features 21 live actors, trap rooms and crawl spaces, clowns and creepy dolls.  One of the organizers, Mikayla Sorensen, states it’s what nightmares are made of.  Entry is $10 at the door the fun starts each evening at 7:30 pm. Entertainment, Comedy + Live Theatre 

Are you a fan of the Rocky Horror Picture Show?  This weekend is your chance to catch it at the Rio Theatre with other fans. It’s a triple threat this weekend with showings of the movie Friday at 11:30 pm, Saturday at 11:45 and Sunday night at 10:00 pm.   Prefer something a little lighter, Beetlejuice is showing Friday at 6:30 pm.
