Rescue Me: Snow White Cat Marlee Looking For Her Forever Home

14 Nov

MarleeWelcome to the next installment of Rescue Me in which we feature pets waiting for adoption at the Vancouver SPCA. Today we would like to introduce you to a sweet girl appropriately named Marlee.  This snow white female short hair cat is approximately 1 year old. She came to the Vancouver SPCA as a stray and although she had a tattoo, the SPCA was unable to reach her owners.  So now this happy little spitfire of a girl is looking for a forever home.  But full disclosure, Marlee is deaf. Thus, she must be a strictly indoor cat for her own safety because of her hearing impairment.  Marlee loves to perch herself by a window and meow at a passerby. She is a happy loving girl who is a bit half dog/half cat and the SPCA feels she might do well with some harness and leash training so she can safely enjoy a bit of outdoor time with you.   She is a very confident and social cat and loves to be around people.   When alone she can sometimes be rather vocal and since she can’t hear herself meow, it’s a little louder than she realizes. For this reason, her friends at the Vancouver SPCA think that apartment dwelling might not be the best for her.  This blue eyed beauty would love to find herself a loving forever home with a family that will nurture her for the rest of her days. Could that be you or someone you know? If so, Marlee’s friends at the BC SPCA Vancouver Branch would love to hear from you whether by telephone at 604-879-7721 or by email at vancouver@spca.bc.ca. As always, we thank you in advance for sharing this information to help find this lovely girl find her forever home. Purrrrrr.

UPDATED November 20th: Marlee has found her forever home.

Urinetown The Musical credit David Cooper 3The Firehall Arts Centre takes on environmental disaster, water shortages and big corporations with the absurd and outrageous Broadway hit Urinetown: The Musical. Opening night kicks off Wednesday, November 5th with a new production of this Tony award winning musical. It is the biggest show the theatre has staged. The show first appeared as a New York Fringe production in 2001 before moving to Off-Broadway and went on to become a Broadway hit.

An East Van Panto: Cinderella At The York Theatre December 3rd to 28th

28 Oct

EastVanPanto

This December, if you want to have some fun, check out the East Van Panto: Cinderella playing at The York Theatre, 639 Commercial Drive, starting December 3rd, 2014.   This production is brought to you by the creative minds at Theatre Replacement.

If you missed last year’s performance of Jack & The Beanstalk, you missed a whole lot of fun! We recommend that you don’t miss this year’s East Van Panto: Cinderella. What is a Panto you might ask? The definition of Panto (another name for Pantomime) is a tradition of holiday musical comedy theatre. Pantomime takes familiar fairy tale,s in this case Cinderella, and injects music, contemporary references and (best of all) audience participation to create raucous, noisy entertainment that’s fun for everyone in the family. And yes, there will be many East Van references that you will be able to identify with in the show that is sure to make everyone laugh.  The East Van Panto is open to all ages 5 and up. Tickets start at $19, family packs are available which include 4 tickets for $100.   Tickets are available at The Cultch either in person, by phone or online. The show begins December 3rd 7:00 pm and continues till December 28th. For those looking for a matinee, there are many 2:00 pm shows starting December 6th. For more information on tickets and performances, visit The Cultch.  We’ll be seeing you there!

Rescue Me: Gordy Looking For Her Fovever Home

26 Oct

GordySPCACat2014Welcome to the next installment of Rescue Me in which we feature pets waiting for adoption at the Vancouver SPCA. Today we would like to introduce you to a lovely sassy girl. Her name is Gordy. She is an adult female short hair cat that is 6 years old.  Gordy came to the Vancouver SPCA’s care as a stray and has not been claimed by her owners. She enjoys the company of adults and is a pretty independent girl. This sometimes sassy girl likes affection on her own terms. Gordy is looking for a human friend who understands this about her.  The folks at the Vancouver SPCA think her ideal home would be with one individual so she can give you all the love she has.  They also feel that Gordy would be fine if you  have a busy schedule as she tends to entertain herself just fine, but she will definitely be awaiting your arrival home. Her friends at the Vancouver SPCA say that Gordy is good with other felines so a correctly matched kitty companion might suit her well. We understand Gordy loves to chatter (literally) back at you when you talk to her. This pretty girl with a black heart shaped nose is hoping you will let her be the queen she thinks she is. So you are invited to head down to the Vancouver SPCA and say hello to this sweet girl. As Gordy is  a long-term resident, she is a no cost adoption. If you think you could give Gordy a forever home, or know someone that can, please contact the BC SPCA Vancouver Branch by telephone at 604-879-7721 or by email at vancouver@spca.bc.ca.  As always, we thank you in advance for sharing this information to help find this lovely girl find her forever home.  Purrrrrr.

UPDATE November 18th: Gordy has found her forever home.
