Vancouver Greek Summerfest – All Weekend Long

The Vancouver Greek Summerfest is now daily until July 14th at 4541 Boundary Road and 29th Avenue. Lots of great food and live music. If you head down on a weekend, it does get busy when it comes to seating. Taking transit? The location is a 10 minute walk from the Joyce Skytrain Station. We also learnt that all proceeds from food sales go back into supporting registered charities in the community.  Is there a reason not to go? Playland Nights – Playland – July 5th

Playland Nights returns tonight and will continue every Friday in July.  This is an adult only evening (19+) which features the usual fun, food and rides, but with fully licensed grounds. This means you can enjoy your beverage of choice throughout the park while taking in the entertainment available.  General admission is $29.00. for tickets visit Playland Nights.

If You Could Read My Mind: Gordon Lightfoot – Rio Theatre – July 5th & July 7th

The Rio Theatre hosts the documentary If You Could Read My Mind Friday night. It features the life and music of the Canadian music icon, Gordon Lightfoot and some of his famous friends and fans including Geddy Lee (Rush), Randy Bachman, Anne Murray and many others.  This is billed is an intimate and emotional examination of the artist’s profound relationship to his music and his Canadian roots. Documentary runs Friday night at 6:15 pm. If you can’t make that, it’s showing again on Sunday at 1:20 pm. For tickets, visit Rio Theatre.

Car Free Day – Commercial Drive – July 7th

Car Free Day where it all began happens this Sunday on Commercial Drive between Noon and 7:00 pm. Car Free Day  stretches 15 blocks along Commercial Drive between Venables and The Grandview Cut. and features activities for all ages, food and entertainment all day long.   This is a free family friendly event which is accessible by bus, Skytrain and cycling all of which is encouraged.

Mini Car Free Day – Commercial Street/Cedar Cottage – July 7th

The great street in Cedar Cottage that boasts the Commercial Street Café, Second Nature Home, Toso Wood Gallery, Vancouver Tool Library and Chance Café and soon to be Flourist, are hosting their own Mini Car Free Day this Sunday on the 3400-3500 block of Commercial Street.  Expect to find live music, chainsaw carving, giant Jenga game, street art, bike repair, chocolate tasting, artisans and kids activities. Although Flourist is not open just yet, we hear they will have a table with delectable things on hand. We suggest you get there early.  Event happens 11:00 am to 6:00 pm.

The Vancouver Market – Wise Hall – July 7th

The Vancouver Market featuring 20+ local vendors happens at The Wise Hall, 1882 Adanac Street this Sunday, July 7th.  Whether you are looking for new or vintage, likely to find an array of unique items. Event happens 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Admission is $2.00.

21st Century Flea Market – Croatian Cultural Centre – July 7th

21st Century Flea Market is back at the Croatian Cultural Centre this Sunday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.  Some 175 vendors will be on hand with collectibles, antiques, kitsch, vintage and whole lot more.  Who knows you could find.  Admission is $5.00 OR for early birds wanting to get a jump on things $20 from 7:00 am to 10:00 am.

Looking for more live music, did you know The Heatley in Strathcona regularly features live music?  Every Sunday they offer bluegrass music with brunch 11 am – 3 pm. UPDATE We’ve just learnt they are taking a hiatus for the summer.

Also 7 days a week, you will find live music at the Libra Room on The Drive. Tangent Café hosts live jazz Sunday nights  from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. Saturday, Pat’s Pub has live jazz Saturday afternoons from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm, no cover.

Looking to shop and support local? Be sure to check out one of the farmer markets happening this weekend. Saturday is Riley Park Farmers Market at 30th & Ontario from 10 am – 2 pm and Trout Lake Farmers Market from 9 am – 2 pm at John Hendry Park. Sunday, Mount Pleasant Farmers Market is back in Dude Chilling Park from 10:00 am – 2 pm. Ocean.net – Havana Theatre – June 28th & 29th

One room, one ocean, four humans and the fate of the world balanced on a raft. Let’s hope everyone knows how to float. The Promethean Theatre Company brings an original piece of theatre to the stage at the Havana Theatre.  Tickets are $16 and $12 for students.

7th Annual Burlesque Long Form – Rio Theatre – June 29th

Looking to be entertained this long weekend? Five of Vancouver’s burlesque performers take the stage with a special guest from Seattle to bring you an evening of burlesque long firm this Saturday night.  You can expect some outlandish props and narratives. Vocal Workshop With Coco Love Alcorn – Wise Hall – June 29th 

Love to sing? Need a bit of practice/work?  You are invited to come sing with Coco Love Alcorn this Saturday afternoon at the Wise Hall.  For 2 hours, she will teach you songs, lead improvisation exercises and show you how to do some fun songwriting. Workshop starts at 1:00 pm. Tickets are $35 and available through Brown Paper Tickets.

Family Gardening – River District Neighbourhood Centre – June 30th

The 5th day of the 5th month of the lunar calendar is Dano and this Sunday, Trout Lake Community Centre hosts a Dano-Korean Festival from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. This is a free event featuring dumming, dancing, taekwondo and more.

Movie ‘The Shining’ Remastered Edition – Rio Theatre – June 30th

A 40th Anniversary remastered edition of The Shining is showing on Sunday night at The Rio Theatre. This a classic movie best seen on the big screen.  Doors open 9:00 pm and movie kicks off at 9:30 pm. For tickets, visit Rio Theatre.

Canada Day Celebration – Grandview Park – July 1st

Lots of free family fun at Grandview Park July 1st between Noon and 3:00 pm to celebrate Canada Day. The celebration features aboriginal performances, live bands, games and activities for the kid, a giant inflatable slide, community booths, carnival games and much more.

Indigenous Day – Trout Lake/John Hendry Park – June 21st

Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day at Trout Lake.  There will be an all day celebration Friday, June 21st that kicks off with a pancake celebration and a friendship walk between 9:00 and 11:00 am.  From Noon to 5:00 pm you can find cultural performances, live music, dancing, canoe tours and activities for the kids.

TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival – The Imperial – June 21st Onward

The Vancouver Jazz Festival starts this Friday and The Imperial, 319 Main Street, has host to an amazing line of talent until July 1st. If you wish to see the full list of performances during the festival including free ones, visit TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival.

Parallel 49 Brewing Co. 7th Anniversary Party – June 21st 

This Friday, local craft brewer, Parallel 49 Brewing celebrates 7 years and they are having a party.  Beer garden to be exact with food trucks and a variety of $5 beers all the while spinning some tunes.  Fun happens at 1950 Triumph Street from 5:00 – 10:00 pm. No tickets required, just show up with 2 pieces of ID please, no minors at this event.

Corgi Races – Hastings Racecourse – June 22nd & 23rd 

Vancouver’s Hastings Racecourse plays host once again to a corgi dog race this Saturday and Sunday.   To view the races is free of charge. The winning pooch gets $500 in prize money and a Bosley’s prize pack.  The event kicks off at 1:15 pm Saturday and Sunday. There will also be food trucks, live music and food trucks on hand.

East Side Pride – Grandview Park – June 22nd

East Side Pride is a family oriented pride event happening in Grandview Park this Saturday from Noon to 6:00 pm.  You can expect to find local artists businesses alongside burlesque and drag performances. If you get hungry, there will be food trucks on hand. This is a free event. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Vancouver Market – Wise Hall – June 22nd

The Vancouver Market returns to the Wise Hall this Saturday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. If you are looking for vintage, eclectic, or a new up and coming local maker, this is the place to be. Admission is $2.00.

Grease Sing-A-Long – June 22nd – Rio Theatre

The Rio Theatre is hosting a Grease Sing-A-Long this Saturday night. Lyrics will be on screen so you can follow along and there will be prizes for costumes. Doors open at 6:00 pm and the fun kicks off at 7:00 pm. For advance tickets, visit the Rio Theatre.

Strathcona Street Party – Strathcona – June 22nd

The Strathcona Street Party happens this Saturday, June 22nd from Noon to 9:00 pm at Campbell Avenue and East Hastings Street.  Check out the new mural that’s up, plus food trucks, live music, beer garden and more.

Summer Solstice Coffee House – Britannia Community Centre – June 23rd

Britannia Community Centre plays host to the Summer Solstice Coffee House this Sunday from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The event features live music, storytelling and, of course, coffee. This is a free event and everyone is welcome to attend.

Railtown Tailgate BBQ – Railtown Café – June 23rd

Once a month this summer, Railtown Café, 397 Railway Street, a Tailgate BBQ from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm.  If you love BBQ, this is a definite spot to check out.  They will be BBQ’ing a variety of meats and offering corn on the cob, corn bread and a few different salads. Refreshments will be available. Cost is $27 per person or $17 for the vegetarian option).  Advance tickets purchased online at a complimentary $6 drink voucher. St. Patrick’s Spring Fair/Night Market-2881 Main Street – June 14th

St. Patrick’s Elementary School is hosting a big fundraiser and by the looks of things a whole lot of fun. They’ve got a bouncy castle, face painters, balloon artists, air brush tattoos and along with activities for the kids, they have a night market for the adults. Event happens 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Italian Market–Italian Cultural Centre – June 14th

The Italian Cultural Centre hosts their outdoor summer market this Friday from 4:30 – 9:30 pm.  You will find a distinct Italian flavor of food at this market and then add in local artisans with handmade items, live music and this year, the opportunity to learn about bees and beehives.  The market is free to attend, the bee hive tours are $15 and require registration.

Eastside Flea–550 Malkin Avenue  – June 14th – June 16th

The Eastside Flea kicks off Friday night at 5:00 pm and continues Saturday and Sunday at 550 Malkin Avenue from 11 am to 5 pm. Lots of great vintage finds along side local makers, food trucks and cocktails will be available for purchase. Admission is $2.00.

The Great Grandview Garage Sale – Grandview Woodlands-  June 15th

The Great Grandview Garage Sale is back this Saturday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. This  is a multi-family garage that takes place all over the Grandview Woodlands area of East Van. Houseplant Cuttings Swap – Templeton Park Pool – June 8th

You are invited to bring your healthy houseplants or plant cuttings to trade this Saturday at the Grassy Field at Templeton Park Pool, 700 Templeton Drive. The swap happens between 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.  If you plant to pick up new cuttings, don’t forget to bring a few pots to place them in.

10th Annual Vancouver Craft Beer Festival – PNE Fairgrounds – June 8th & 9th 

If you love beer, this is the place to be this weekend. The 10th Annual Vancouver Craft Beer Festival happens this Saturday and Sunday at the PNE Fairgrounds.  Featuring over 300 beers and ciders from BC and the US, there will be lots on offer including food trucks.  Tickets are $39 for one day, or you can purchase a weekend pass for $65. Tickets are available through Ticketleader.

Bridal Pop Up – The Garden – June 8th

Are you planning a wedding?  The Garden in Strathcona, 868 East Hastings Street, is hosting a Bridal Pop Up this Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm in their studio space. They will have bridal pieces, floral displays and a wedding planner on hand.  Free to attend.

Italian Day – Commercial Drive – June 9th

This is one of the biggest street parties in the City and a personal favourite, Italian Day happens this Sunday from Noon to 8:00 pm.  Car traffic is blocked from the Grandview Cut to Venables Street for the day. There will be lots of great eats, live music and activities for all ages. Free to attend and wander.

Retro Design & Antiques Fair – Croatian Cultural Centre – June 9th

This Sunday you can find some 185 tables with vintage, collectables and antiques at the Croatian Cultural Centre. The event goes from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm .

Main Street Mixed Bag – Ellis Building – June 9th

Main Street Mixed Bag happens this Sunday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Ellis Building at 1024 Main Street.  Great opportunity to check out awesome local talent and who knows what you might find. Admission is free. Kids and dogs welcome.

The Plant Market – The Garden Strathcona – June 1st & 2nd

11th Annual Cedar Cottage Community Garden Spring Fling – May 25th

You are invited to celebrate community and food security at the 11th Annual Cedar Cottage Community Garden this Saturday from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm. This is a free family friendly event. There will be some local vendors with items including art, plants along with live bluegrass music.   Stop by and celebrate community. This community garden is rich in local history.

Family Yoga – Trout Lake Community Centre – May 25th

Family Yoga is back at Trout Lake Community Centre this Saturday from 1:00 – 2:00 pm along with live music. Cost is $1.00.

Reclaimed Wood Market – 1278 East Hastings Street – May 25th

The Reclaimed Wood Market is doing some spring cleaning which means it’s 15% off all reclaimed wood and live edge slabs this Saturday.  Stop by between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. They will be offering refreshments and hot dogs. Kids and pups welcome.

Collingwood Days – Gaston Park – May 25th

Collingwood Days Festival happens in Gaston Park this Saturday between 11:00 am – 4:00 pm. The event kicks off with a pancake breakfast between 9:00 am – 11:00 am followed by a parade at 10:30 am. The official kick off is at 11:00 am and features entertainment, arts and crafts, games, food and much more.  This is a free family friendly event.

Parker Art Salon – 1000 Parker Street – May 24th – 26th

If you love art, this is the place to be this weekend. The Parker Art Salon is happening with a paid preview  event Friday night for collectors and a free event Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at 1000 Parker Street. 21st Annual European Festival – The Alpen Club – May 26th

The 21st Annual European Festival happens this Sunday at the Vancouver Alpen Club (Victoria and 33rd Avenue).  The festival happens from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm and will feature  live music, dance performances, food, artisans and much more.  To see what performances they’ve got lined up, visit the Festival Schedule. Mount Pleasant Farmers Market – Dude Chilling Park – May 26th

Lucas Dubovik Quartet – Café Deux Soleils – May 26th

Looking to wind down towards the end of the weekend. The Lucas Dubovik Quartet is playing at Café Deux Soleils Sunday night. This group features four young talented musicians from the Vancouver area.  They are inspired by the sounds of the 1950s from some of the greats including John Coltrane, Hank Mobley and Sonny Rollins’ quartets. Doors are at 8:00 pm, show begins at 9:00 pm.

The Day Trippers will be performing at Federico’s Supper Club, 1728 Commercial Drive, this Friday night.  If you love Beatles music, a great meal along with dancing, this Friday Federico’s Supper Club is the spot to be.

The Fitting Room – Havana Theatre – May 17th & 18th

The Victoria Fringe award winning production The Fitting Room finishes up it’s run this week at Havana Theatre. The play about four teens, a mom and a rabbi touch on the sudden death of a 13 year old after a dare. This poignant production received Victoria Fringe’s Best Overall Favourite and Bravest Awards. Tickets are $15-$20 and available through Showpass.com.

Nassim – The Cultch – May 17th & 18th

From Iranian playwright Nassim Soleimanpour has brought an audacious theatrical experiment to the stage.  Each night a different performer joins the playwright on stage, while the script waits unseen in a sealed box. The show is partly autobiographical yet we hear powerfully universal. The show is a striking theatrical demonstration of how language can both divide and unite us. This production is getting rave reviews, just a few more days to catch it. For tickets, visit The Cultch.

Cat Video Fest 2019 – Rio Theatre May 18th

Love cats and/or cat videos?  You will want to check out Cat Video Fest 2019 this Saturday afternoon.  The event features a compilation of the latest and best cat videos including animations, music videos and random submissions.  This is a perfect feel good event, who doesn’t need a bit of that. Added bonus, it’s a fund raiser for VOKRA – Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association based in East Vancouver that does amazing work in the community.  Advance tickets are $12.50, or you can purchase them at the door $14.50.

Zero Waste Vegan Market – 520 Alexander Street – May 18th 

If you want to learn more about how to implement a zero waste lifestyle, you are invited to this free public event being held this Saturday at 520 Alexander Street. The market is hosted by Peace People Project and runs from 11 am 4 pm. You are encouraged to bring your own reusable bags and containers.

Pop Up Bakery – les amis du fromage – May 18th

Ritchie’s Bakery is back at les amis du fromage, 843 East Hastings St. this Saturday. Beautiful artisan breads and sweet treats available surrounded by an amazing cheese selection.  Pretty perfect. Pop Up happens from 11 am – 3 pm.

Baby Face Brass – Café Deux Soleils – May 18th

If you wish to take in some energetic live music this long weekend, you may wish to check out BabyFace Brass performing at Café Deux Soleils this Saturday night. BabyFace Brass is billed as Vancouver’s premier street jazz and party band.  Doors  open at 8 pm and music kicks off at 9 pm. Admission $10.

Eastside Flea – 550 Malkin Avenue  – May 18th & 19th

Vancouver Postcard Show & Sale – Hastings Community Centre – May 19th
