30 Apr

JuneHunterStudioSaleMay2018One of our favourite local artists, June Hunter, is hosting a Studio Sale this weekend. For those that don’t know her work, nature features prominently in June’s work as do some iconic East Van landmarks. She regularly features crows and other birds that come to visit her idyllic backyard which houses her working studio.  Those crows have been a source of inspiration for new designs.  Always creative, June has been busy working on new designs which include beautiful cushion covers, iPad cases, notepads, pencil cases, tote bags and more. Her working studio will again be transformed to showcase all her creative works which also include jewellery, small prints, large scale wall art, tiles and more. If you are lucky, her rescue dog Geordie will again be on hand as ambassador to greet you. June Hunter’s Studio is located at 2785 Parker Street (one block west of Renfrew – between Hastings St. and First Avenue). The Studio Sale takes place Friday, May 4th from 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm and Saturday, May 5th and Sunday, May 6th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

If you are not able to attend this weekend’s Studio Sale, we invite you check out her online shop which is open 24/7.  You can also find some of June’s pieces at Doctor Vigari Gallery, 1816 Commercial Drive and Bird on A Wire Creations, 2535 Main Street.

The Bridal Swap Is Happening At The Croatian Cultural Centre Sunday April 2, 2017

15 Mar

BridalSwapAre you planning a wedding this year or maybe next year?  If so, we have something for you. Weddings as many know are a fairly large expenditure, even if you are doing it on a budget.  That is why we love the concept of The Bridal Swap happening April 2nd at the Croatian Cultural Centre. If you are unfamiliar with this unique concept, it brings together past brides, brides to be, decorators, wedding planners and craft artisans all under one roof.  For brides to be, you have the opportunity to purchase gently used items from past brides and, of course, past brides have the opportunity to sell items from their weddings which could include the ‘dress’ and wedding décor including centerpieces, candles, linens, glassware and vases to name but a few items on hand. So instead of buying all new, it’s a great opportunity to re-use and repurpose items which we are big fans of.  The Bridal Swap will also have on hand an array of artisans offering handmade items or services for your wedding day including photographers, jewellery, cakes, wedding favours, flowers, invitations and the list goes on.  Bridal Swap takes place on Sunday, April 2nd from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm. Tickets are available through Eventbrite and you have two options $25 for early admission at 10:30 a.m. for first choice on items, or $15 for admission after 11:30 a.m. Now if you are a Past Bride and wish to sell some items, you are in luck, there are a few spots left. Tables are $50 and organizers are offering our followers $5 off with the discount code ILIVEINEASTVAN17.

Holiday Studio Sale: June Hunter – November 25 to 27, 2016

24 Nov

junehunter3panelsEast Van artist, June Hunter, is gearing up for her annual Holiday Studio Sale which takes place on November 25-27, 2016. If you follow us regularly, you know we are big fans of her work.   June has a way with nature that shows in all her pieces, but we especially love her photography.  If you happened to catch the recent article in the Vancouver Sun on Forest Bathing, it is one of the up and coming trends of 2017. June’s been ahead of that curve (as have many of us) for years, but do check out June’s recent feature on Forest Bathing on her blog. Along with the article, you will find some amazing photographs in nature. We invite you to check them out and you will see the affects of forest bathing on her office mate, Geordie in before and after photos.

And this weekend, you can meet June in person, see her amazing creations and check out her back yard studio. The studio is located in the back of her home for which she has to be one of the world’s shortest commutes. We are only a little bit envious. Add to that, she has some of the best work mates, Geordie and Edgar.  The first being a rescue dog that came from a high kill shelter earlier this year to his new loving home with his new pal Edgar the cat with serious catitude. As an animal lover, June is very well versed in all thing crows and you will see crows and other birds featured prominently in much of her work. At this weekend’s Holiday Sale, you can expect to find discounts on jewellery, tiles, magnets, crow-bar art panels, ornaments and wood panels as well as the opportunity to see some of her larger pieces like her new  raven/crow plexiglass pieces. Snacks and refreshments will be served among the twinkly lights around her studio. June Hunter’s Studio is located at 2785 Parker Street (one block west of Renfrew – between Hastings St. and First Avenue). The Holiday Studio Sale takes place Friday, November 25th 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm and November 26th & 27th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

If you are not able to attend the Holiday Studio Sale, you can also catch June at the Make It Holiday Market December 8-11 happening at the PNE Forum Building, 2901 E. Hastings Street. You can also visit her Shop Online 24/7 or find some of her work at Doctor Vigari Gallery, 1816 Commercial Drive.

Clothing Swap At The Wise Hall July 24th & September 18th

20 Jul

AClothesMargaritRalev.jpgn interesting event is happening at the Wise Hall, 1882 Adanac Street, this Sunday, July 24th, 2016. It’s a Clothing Swap. So if are looking to purge those closets and get something new, this could be the event for you. This is how it works.  The cost to participate is a one time cost of $10 (cash only) to cover the cost of the venue.  Between 12:30 pm and 1:00 pm you are asked to drop off your clothing and your $10 payment.  Volunteers will then sort the items you’ve dropped off and from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm you are asked to come back and wander about and pick out some new digs. There is no limit as to the number of items you are allowed to take, but organizers ask that stick to the items that actually fit you. Items that are acceptable for the Clothing Swap include washed women and men’s clothing, shoes, accessories and jewelry.  Note registration is required for this event. To do that for this Sunday’s event, or the upcoming event in September, you should contact besteventsinvancouver@gmail.com.   All leftover clothing will be donated to a local non-profit charity, so all around a win win situation.
