You are invited to dive into the mind of Edgar Allan Poe as he desperately searches for his lost love in this tragic dream within a dream. The Cultch presents Deep Into Darkness which explores the many corners of The Cultch 20+ rooms, 3 floors and countless tales in which you unravel the mystery of the chaotic descent into madness. Deep Into Darkness kicks off August 13th and runs till August 25th. Tickets are $75 in advance or $85 at the door. Note, we recommend you read the Show Warning if you wish to participate in this immersive theatre production. If are looking for some free summer fun and entertainment, you may wish to check out the Savour Summer Festival happening this Saturday, August 10th at the River District Town Centre, 8550 River District Crossing. The festival features summer games, mini golf, a dunk tank in support of local charities along with the latest craze which we hear is axe throwing?! We also hear a beer garden will be available for 19+ patrons. If you don’t already know, an Everything Wine store is located across from the River District Town Centre and they will have lots of in store wine tastings happening during the festival. The event also features live music by lots of local talent including Cory Owens and The Boom Booms. The festival runs from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm and again it’s free. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Vancouver Mural Festival – August 1 to 10, 2019
The Vancouver Mural Festival kicked off August 1st and continues to August 10th. This is a great opportunity to check out some amazing murals around Vancouver. We understand there are at least 25 new ones popping up around the City. The Festival also features a variety of events during the festival with a Pride Special happening this Sunday at 7 ½ Lane from 2:00 pm till the wee hours of the morning. Playland – Now Open Every Day

Outdoor Summer Movie – Gaston Park – August 2nd
Collingwood Policing Centre is featuring another outdoor movie tonight this Friday night at Gaston Park located just a couple of blocks from the Joyce – Collingwood Skytrain Station. They will be showing Monster in Paris and the movie gets under way at dusk approximately 9:00 pm. Note, rain does cancel these events.

43rd Annual Powell Street Festival – August 3rd & 4th

James Villa and Hayley Lynn make their way up from Portland, Oregon for Soul Folk Sunday at Café Deux Soleils. Great way to spend a Sunday evening if you are staying in town for the long weekend. Doors open at 8:00 pm, music gets under way at 9:00 pm.
Buena Vista Social Club – Rio Theatre – August 5th
The Oscar nominated documentary about an American guitarist bringing together the Cuban folk musicians now in their 90s to record a Grammy Award winning CD in their native city of Havana. We hear there is amazing concert footage and features gigs in Amsterdam and New York. The film not only features the music, but the life stories of the musicians of the Buena Vista Social Club. Movie shows at 6:20 pm Monday, August 5th.

Les Amis du Fromage Announces Wine & Cheese Tastings Coming This Fall

If you love wine and cheese, you will want to to check out some of tastings that les amis du Fromage has coming this Fall to their East Van location (843 East Hastings Street). If are enjoying Summer and thinking Fall is a long ways off, well these courses are not really that far off . We’ve set out the two tastings coming up:
Blue Mountain Cheese Tasting-October 21, 2019
Blue Mountain Vineyards and Cellars is located in Okanagan Falls and is a great winery to visit with some beautiful wines. But you don’t have to travel to the Okanagan to taste some of their wines, you can just make your way to les amis du fromage on October 21st. Tasting kicks off at 6:30. Tickets are $80. Little Farm Winery – November 4, 2019
The Little Farm Winery is based in Cawston, BC and is a small producer of single vineyard Chardonnay. Tasting kicks off at 6:30 pm on November 4th. Tickets again are $80. If you don’t already know les amis du FROMAGE, has been voted “Best Cheese Shop” by readers of The Georgia Straight and The Courier repeatedly. They have another location in Kitsilano, but the tasting events are being held at the East Van location. Tickets for these tastings are available online. Although these classes seems a little ways off into the future, these classes do sell out quickly. If interested, we suggest you reserve your spot(s). Refunds aren’t given, but you can transfer your spot to someone else.
