Workshop: Create A Botanical Cyanotype Lantern September 10th

In advance of this year’s Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival, the Still Moon Arts Society is hosting a pretty cool workshop.   Two creatives, Brittney Appleby and Rea Saxena, will be leading this beginner friendly workshop in which you will create a Botanical Cyantope Lantern. Brittney and Rea will help you create the lanterns using natural plant materials sourced locally, or you can bring your own elements. You will have the opportunity to show off your creative lantern marking skills at the Twilight Lantern Procession being held on September 23rd which is the big finale of the Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival.  The lantern workshop will take place on Sunday, September 10th from Noon to 3:00 pm at the Slocan Community Hall. Car Free Days In East Van

Car Free Days return for another year. In East Vancouver, they will be happening September 9th on Commercial Drive (North Grandview Highway to 1st Avenue) and September 16th on Main Street (10th Avenue to King Edward Avenue).   Both festivals kick off at Noon and run till 7:00 pm. Car Free Days is a chance to experience the City with more space for pedestrians.  Expect to find activities for all ages, locally-based vendors in each neighbourhood.  This is a free family friendly event in which walking, cycling and taking transit to the event is encouraged. Historical Walking Tours In Mount Pleasant This Fall

Christine Hagemoen, historical research, writer and photographer, is leading some historical walking tours in Mount Pleasant this Fall. The tours titled Mount Pleasant Stories will feature two tours, one features Brewery Creek and the second Lower Mount Pleasant. You are invited to come walk, rain or shine, and learn about the history, the people and the land.    The tours run 2 to 2 ½ hours and start at 10:00 am. 8th Annual McSpadden County Fair Happens September 10th

While summer continues in full swing, there are fun things to look forward to this September.  One of which is the 8th Annual McSpadden Country Fair being held on Sunday, September 10th in McSpadden Park.  This is a community event that features fun activities for the whole family including live music, games, local vendors, food trucks and the ever popular East Van zucchini races. If you have an idea on how to make a zucchini go fast, now’s your chance! Be warned though, there is stiff competition for bragging rights. If you cycle, Kickstand will be on hand doing bike tunes up by donation. As with any country fair, there will be raffles, contests and prizes.  The 8th Annual McSpadden County Fair takes place in McSpadden Park, 2125 Victoria Drive, between 11:00 and 5:00 pm. Falcon Media Presents Dantor-Olas Altas at The Cultch August 24 & 25

Still Moon Arts Society Call Out For Volunteers

The Still Moon Arts Society is looking volunteers for their 21st Annual Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival this September.  The Festival has become a significant anchor of community creativity and collective neighbourhood identity. It has raised awareness of the history of the Still Creek watershed, resulting in ongoing community stewardship, and the return of salmon to the ravine. This year’s theme is Water’s Wisdom. If you love the arts, this is a great opportunity to work side by side with a host of talented creatives. 47th Annual Powell Street Festival August 5th & 6th

You are invited to come celebrate Japanese Canadian art and culture at the 47th Annual Powell Street Festival happening August 5th & 6th. Festivities will take place in Oppenheimer Park and Paueru Gai (the Powell Street area) from 11:30 am to 7:00 pm. There will be stages showcasing contemporary and traditional artists, community food vendors and crafters offering Japanese delights and designs. You can expect to catch live performances by Kiyoshi & Oleksiy and Katari Taiko as well as dance performances by the Southern Wave Okinawan Music & Dance Society. 3rd Annual Create! Arts Festival July 22-23

Eastside Arts Society will be hosting a fun summer art-making event CREATE! Arts Festival on July 22nd and July 23rd.  This 2 day festival will take place in Strathcona Park on Saturday, July 22nd and in various locations on the East Side on Sunday, July 23, 2023.

You are invited to explore, learn, and create art at a wide variety of visual and performing arts workshops taught by more than 15 local artists. Adults and youth are invited to learn about watercolour painting, needle felting, indigo dying, pottery, glass fusing, photography, ukulele, Salish singing, storytelling, and much more. General admission is also available for the CREATE! Art Zone, which will feature public participation art, art demos, Festival Art Shop, food trucks, beer + wine, and so much more. In addition to a variety of art workshops, demonstrations, and public participation art installations, they are introducing a Festival Art Shop which will feature a curated selection of arts and crafts made by local artists.  There will lots to see and do over the course of the 2 day arts festival.
