Gourmet Warehouse has added more cooking classes to their Fall season which includes one for those interested in mastering the art of making cocktails. If you haven’t already experienced one of their classes, it is a great way to spend an afternoon or evening with some like-minded food lovers. If you have participated, you know it’s a great way to pick up some knowledge and some great tips in the kitchen. Added bonus is after each cooking class all the participants are offered a 10% discount for purchases made the day of your class. The Flavours of Peru – October 18, 2022

You are invited to take a journey and experience the flavours of Peru with local chef Shelome Bouvette. She will be showcasing classic Peruvian comfort food with a contemporary twist. Chef Shelome has expertise from such infamous restaurants Lolita’s and CHICHA. If you’ve been to either, you know it’s going to be good. Menu for the evening will be:

• Chicha Morada – Traditional spiced purple corn drink
• Peruvian Ceviche – Classico – seasonal white fish, poached yam, Peruvian cancha corn, sweet corn, salsa criolla, aji amarillo chili, citrus broth.
Causa del Cangrejo – Peruvian aji amarillo chili, whipped & chilled potato, layered with Dungeness crab, mango, avocado, topped with cherry tomato corn salsa and poached local prawns

Pasta Like A Pro: Italiano Classico – October 19, 2022

Do you love fresh pasta, but think it’s too difficult to make in your own kitchen? Think again! Chef Deniz will show you how to mix, roll, shape, and cook fresh pasta. You’ll learn how to make ricotta gnudi, tortellini, and traditional egg noodles, along with simply delicious sauces to pair with each! We’ve set out the delicious menu:

Intro Into Cookie Decorating: Fall Favourites – October 23, 2022

Chef Lizzy Wong from Butter Baked Goods is back to guide you through an array of colourfully decorated seasonal cookies using classic Royal Icing Techniques on sugar cookies. You will learn about consistencies, colouring and piping techniques along with some advanced techniques to wow a few people with your new skills.   Each attendee from this class will leave with delicious cookies to take home. An Evening With The Acorn: Vegetables Re-Imagined – Sept. 21, 2022

Brian Luptak and Shira Blustein, award winning chefs, restauranteurs and authors, will be leading this demonstration dining event. Vegetables Re-Imagined will explore produce layering flavours and textures with impeccable plating, while showcasing vegetarian cuisine at its finest. Cookies with Lizzy: Spooky Sugar Halloween Treats – Sept. 25, 2022

Chef Lizzy Wong from Butter Baked Goods invites you to spend a Sunday afternoon learning how to colourfully decorate seasonal cookies using classic royal icing techniques on sugar cookies. You can expect to learn about consistency, colouring, piping techniques, flooding, and as well as some advanced techniques. Added bonus, each class starts with a delicious mimosa a nibble on baked goods and fresh fruit while Lizzie guides you through the class. Each attendee from this class will leave with delicious cookies to take home and share with your loved ones and of course armed with the knowledge to make more at home just in time for Halloween.

Dumpling 101: Pinch Me I’m Dreaming – Sept. 28, 2022

Chef Deniz will be hosting this hands-on cooking class in which you learn about the perfect dough, decadent fillings and classic technique for dumplings. “Pinch Me I’m Dreaming” will also highlight regional stuffings and fillings from around the world and the variations on folds and pinches to create showstopping plates to impress any guest. Sprouted: Spring Vegetables Re-Imagined – April 6, 2022

Chef Brian Luptak and Shira Blustein of critically acclaimed Vancouver restaurant Acorn will teach you chef-perfected techniques to elevate your vegetables to the next level. Note the menu that will be prepared is vegetarian not vegan.

Cuckoo For Keto – April 21, 2022

Chef Deniz Tarakcioglu will also lead this demonstration cooking class which invites you to think outside the box when preparing low carb food that’s tasty. He will help you level up your weekly meal plan with crispy halloumi. chorizo skewer, flavour-packed chicken and peanut lettuce wraps.

Spring Dessert Virtual Class With Chef Giulia Lombardo March 28th

Giulia Lombardo invites you to join her for a virtual cooking class this Sunday, March 28th. In this 1 hour class, Giulia will show you how to prepare a delicious English trifle dessert with an Italian twist. You will learn step-by-step how to make a trifle that’s layered with lemon curd, vanilla cake, Chantilly cream and fresh peaches. Before your virtual class, you will receive the full Trifle recipe by email with the ingredients and your shopping list. During the virtual class, Giulia will provide step-by-step instructions on how to create this delish dessert. If on the other hand you prefer to watch the video and make the trifle after at your own pace, you have that option as well. This virtual class is by donation with a suggested price of $20 per person. A portion of the ticket sales will be donated to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. To register, visit Eventbrite. Virtual Cooking Class With Just Giulia February 12th

Giulia Lombardo invites you to join her for a virtual cooking class this Friday, February 12th. Giulia is going to teach you how easy it is to make fresh pasta. You can follow along step by step as she cooks, or watch her cook and then try it on your own after the cooking class. The menu for this upcoming class is:

Sage and Brown Butter Sauce
Suggested Wine Pairing: Poplar Grove Pinot Gris

The cost of the cooking class is $20 with a percentage of the proceeds being donated to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. The fun kicks off at 6:00 pm. Having brought various ceviches to gatherings with friends, it is always a popular hit and easy to keep some aside to make a vegan option.  On September 19th, Sue Wiebe hosts a class at Gourmet Warehouse showing you how easy it is to put together a Mexican spread with fresh ingredients.  This is an evening class beginning at 6:00 pm. Everyday Thai – Saturday, April 13th 11:00 am – 2:00 pm 

Chef Cindy Low will demonstrate how easy it is to prepare delicious and mouth-watering Thai dishes, from an everyday curry to exotic Tom Yum spaghetti with prawns. You will learn about lemongrass, curry pastes, kaffir lime leaves, galangal, and more. You are encouraged to come hungry. Here’s what you’ll learn to make:

Workshop: Preserving The Summer Bounty August 8, 2018

PreservingSummerBountyAugust8Our friends at The Uncommon Café, 477 Powell Street, have a workshop lined up this August that will help preserve some of your summer bounty. On August 8th, Valentine Kitamura owner of Tartine Maple will lead a class at The Uncommon Café. If you don’t know this space already, it is great little café and commissary located across the street from Oppenheimer Park. In this summer workshop, Valentine will show you how to make some delish preserves while also teaching you some basic preserving techniques. Some of what you’d be making in this upcoming class include Apple & Jalapeno Jelly, Vodka Drunken Cherries, Salsa and Canned Peaches. Did we mention these folks know how to do workshops? While learning about preserving, sip on a glass of wine during the class along with a snack or two. You will go home a 4 oz jar size of each item made and printed recipe cards. Some Delish Cooking Classes Coming In 2018

EastCountryPatesA New Year is upon us.  Who hasn’t made a resolution to learn something new.  We try and kick our cooking skills up a notch.  Thus love spending time at cooking classes learning new dishes especially this time of year when it’s cold outside.  We’ve put together a selection of upcoming classes whether you are a beginner or seasoned cook, we are sure you can take away something from these classes to do at home.

French Gastronomy Series: East Country Pâtés – Uncommon Cafe – January 24, 2018

Valentine of Tartine Maple introduces a cooking class series that will take you on a culinary tour of France. Each class in the series brings you food from a different region of France. While learning about culinary and cultural facts, Valentine will prepare a main dish and sides typical of the chosen region. The first class in this series begins January 24th entitled French Gastronomy Series: East Country Pates. This class will focus on East “Terroir”. You will learn to make:

  • Chicken Liver Mousse: The easiest pate.
  • “Terrine Campagnard”. A rich meat pâté, delicious served for appetizer with bread and pickles.
  • Pâté en Croûte: the richness of a warm porc and poultry pâté cooked in puff pastry.

The Raspberry Trio – Gourmet Warehouse – February 4, 2018 

Chef Steven Hodge, Owner/Chef of West Vancouver’s “Temper Pastry & Chocolate” hosts this demonstration class.  You will learn three different techniques to use raspberries in a dessert to create some amazing dishes including:RaspberryTrioGourmetWarehouse
