Neil Diamond Tribute – Federico’s Supper Club – August 30th

If you love the sounds of Neil Diamond, enjoy dancing along with having a great dinner, Federico’s Supper Club is the place to be Friday night.  Cost is $69 per person and includes a 3 course meal and the evening’s entertainment.  Note price doesn’t included tip and tax. The Fair At The PNE – Now to September 2nd

The Fair at the PNE is on daily from 11:00 till 11:00 pm every evening until September 2nd. In case you hadn’t heard, there are lots of free events with admission once inside the gates. Kids under 5 are free with an adult and children aged 6 to 12.  If you are looking for an energetic performance, Billy Idol will be hitting the summer concert stage Saturday night at 8:30 pm and the Beach Boys take the stage Sunday.

Lovin’ The Earth Climate Action – Riley Park Community Garden – August 31st 

You are invited to come join in a family-friendly event on climate action this Saturday.  The event will focus around around 5 themes where you can make a difference:  Food, Energy, Transportation, Waste and Resilient Neighbourhoods. There will also be a Butterfly Project Talk with a Butterfly Ranger from the David Suziki Foundation. For more info, visit Climate Action Fair.

Lantern Making in the Food Forest – Renfrew Collingwood – August 31st

If you are looking for something to entertain the kids this weekend, Renfrew Collingwood Food Security Institute is hosting a free lantern making workshop this Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.  All materials will be supplied. These will be glass jars that kids decorate.  Although the event is free, registration is requested. The event happens at Norquay Community Food Forest (2732 Horley Street).

Comedy Bucket – Little Mountain Gallery – August 31st

Looking for some laughs this long weekend?   Little Mountain Gallery, 195 East 26th Avenue, plays host to Comedy Bucket. What is it? Vancouver’s top stand up comedians abandon all their material to create brand new jokes on your (the audience’s suggestions).  Evening is hosted by Gina Harms and Gavin Banning. Tickets are $8 online or $10 at the door.

Heartbreak On The Coast Release Party – Wise Hall – August 31st

Full Circle is putting on a show on Saturday, August 31st at the Wise Hall to celebrate the Release of Nimkish’s first album “Heartbreak On The Coast.” Expect an evening of Indigenous/Queer music that supports local artists. There will also be vendor tables set up to showcase local art.  Tickets are $12 and available through Eventbrite.

Artful Sundays – Napier Greenway – September 1st 

The last Artful Sunday for the summer happens this Sunday between Noon and 5:00 pm. Expect some great local talent, live music, workshops and artisans. The event is free to attend. The Napier Greenway is located just outside the Britannia Community Centre/Library.

The Great Canadian Porno: The Musical – Havana Theatre – September 1st

If you are looking for a good laugh this weekend, you may wish to check out The Great Canadian Porno: The Musical happening at Havana Theatre this Sunday night.  We hear it’s a bold and funny fast paced production with Canadiana undertones.  Tickets are $20 and available through Showpass.

The Fair At The PNE – Now to September 2nd

The Fair at the PNE is on daily from 11:00 till 11:00 pm every evening until September 2nd. In case you hadn’t heard, there are lots of free events with admission once inside the gates. Kids under 5 are free with an adult and children aged 6 to 12.  If you are looking for free gate admission, August 27th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm is the last one.  If you are looking from some smooth sounds, Smokey Robinson will be hitting the summer concert stage Friday night at 8:30 pm.

Summer Series – Grandview Park – August 23rd

Commercial Drive BIA is hosting a Summer Series event tonight in Grandview Park.  There will be balloon twisting, face painters and a caricature artist plus refreshments from Super Valu.  The Lego Movie will be shown at dusk, note which is happening earlier these days.

Serate in Piazza – Italian Cultural Centre – August 23rd

This Friday at the Italian Cultural Centre, you are invited to Serate In Piazza. They are hosting an evening of outdoor music and dancing.  Food including sausages, pasta, beer, wine and gelato are available for purchase.  The event happens between 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm.  In the event of rain, the festivities move indoors. Music and dancing is free, food available for purchase.

The Zoo Story – Havana Theatre – August 23rd and 24th 

The Rusted Cage Theatre Lab presents a renowned classic story of human disconnection and class division.  The story follows Peter and Jerry who you observe meeting on a sunny Sunday morning in the park. Both suffer from loneliness, so what happens?   You can find out this weekend at Havana Theatre. Tickets are $25 and available through Showpass.

Tomato Festival Tasting & Potluck – Riley Park Community Garden – August 24th

If you haven’t checked out the Riley Park Community Garden it’s a great time to do that this weekend. At the same time you can check out the Riley Park Farmers Market that happens 10:00 am to 2:00 pm right next to it, if you haven’t already. The Community Garden will be hosting a Tomato Festival Tasting & Potluck between 12:30 and 1:30 pm.

August Seed Library Pop Up – Britannia Library – August 24th

If you are a gardener, you may want to check out the seed pop up and start planning your fall garden. They will have annual, biennial and perennial seed varities for fall and winter planting.  You are also invited to donate seeds as well. Stop by between 2:00 and 4:00 at the Britannia Library.

Tinder Tales – Fox Cabaret – August 24th

Who doesn’t have a funny dating story right? This Saturday night, local funny woman Jo Dworschak (Story Story Lie) will be hosting Tinder 💔 Tales at the Fox Cabaret. Comedians will be sharing their own ridiculous dating stories and yes, some will be x-rated. Event happens at the Fox Cabaret. Live Music With The Sonny Landreth Band – Rio Theatre – August 24th

If you love blues music, you may wish to check out this event happening  Saturday night at the Rio Theatre. The Canadian Pacific Blues Society along with One Stop Rock Shop present well known slide guitarist Sonny Landreth.  Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 at the door. Pop Up Water Park – David Thompson School – August 9th

Vancouver Fire & Rescue is hosting a Pop Up Water Park this Friday, August 9th at David Thompson Secondary School from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.  You can find the school just West of Victoria Drive at 53rd Avenue.  In the event of rain, the event is cancelled.

Vancouver Mural Festival – August 1 to 10, 2019

The Vancouver Mural Festival continues this weekend with one of the big musical events, The Park Show in Jonathon Rogers Park.  The festival is a great opportunity to check out some of the 25+ new murals around Vancouver. There will also be a spirit lifting puppet and clown parade by the folks behind the Dusty Flower Pot in the alley way between 6th and 7th Avenue off Main Street. Playland – Now Open Every Day

If you are looking to entertain the kids, Playland is now open every day from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm until The PNE Fair starts on August 17th. To learn more, visit Playland.

Lakeview & Cedar Cottage Historical Walk – August 10th

If you wish to learn a bit more about some interesting East Van history, you are invited to come along with local historian Peter Finch this Saturday. Peter will take you on a tour of the Cedar Cottage and Lakeview area and share stories from before World War 1 and what Vancouver was like then. Cost is a very reasonable $2. The tour happens from Noon to 1:00 pm and begins from Trout Lake Community Centre.

James Johnstone History Walk – Strathcona – August 10th

This Saturday James Johnstone returns with his East End Walking Tours. This one takes you around Strathcona and the eclectic history here. Tour starts at 696 East Hastings St. and Heatley at 10:00 am. Costs is $20.

Summer Savour Festival – River District Town Centre – August 10th

Wesgroup Properties is hosting Summer Savour Festival this Saturday from 2:00 to 6:00 pm in River District Town Centre. The event features live music by local artists including The Boom Booms, a Beer Garden along with a host of family friendly activities. This is a free event. Everyone is welcome.

Windfall Cider Summer Bash 2019! – The Garden – August 10th

Love cider? Then you may wish to check out the Windfall Cider Summer Bash happening at The Garden, 868 E. Hastings St. in Strathcona this Saturday. Windfall Cedar founders Nathaly and Jeff Nairn will be on hand for a special cider pop up offering cider flights, cider slushies along side tasty tapas.  This is a free event, you can register through Eventbrite to reserve your spot which will we hear will be on their outdoor patio. Event gets under way at 6 pm and goes till 11:00 pm.

Artful Sundays – Napier Greenway – August 11th

Artful Sundays kicks off in the Napier Greenway this Sunday between Noon and 5:00 pm. You can expect some great local talent, live music, workshops and artisans including a personal favourite BagItUpByKate for those wishing to ditch the plastic when grocery shopping. And if you are in need of some help with relaxation, check out her relaxation eye bags with locally grown lavender.  The event is free to attend. The Napier Greenway is located just outside the Britannia Community Centre/Library.

Main Street Mixed Bag – Ellis Building – August 11th

Main Street Mixed Bag is back at the Ellis Building, 1024 Main Street, this Sunday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.  As the name eludes, a mixed bag of artisans, garage sale, collectibles and everything in between.  No admission, kids and dogs welcome.  We hear there is a new local indigenous artist making some beautiful jewellery, check out Inner Wolf Jewellery.

Strange Fellows Movie Night – August 11th

If you love beer, popcorn and movies, you are in luck! Strange Fellows Brewing is hosting a double bill this Sunday at their brewery between 6:00 and 10:00 pm. They will be showing Die Hard and Pulp Fiction.

Vancouver Mural Festival – August 1 to 10, 2019

The Vancouver Mural Festival kicked off August 1st and continues to August 10th.  This is a great opportunity to check out some amazing murals around Vancouver. We understand there are at least 25 new ones popping up around the City.  The Festival also features a variety of events during the festival with a Pride Special happening this Sunday at 7 ½ Lane from 2:00 pm till the wee hours of the morning.   There are also some opportunities to run the murals.  To see a full run down of events, visit Vancouver Mural Festival.

Outdoor Summer Movie – Gaston Park – August 2nd 

Collingwood Policing Centre is featuring another outdoor movie tonight this Friday night at Gaston Park located just a couple of blocks from the Joyce – Collingwood Skytrain Station.  They will be showing Monster in Paris and the movie gets under way at dusk approximately 9:00 pm. Note, rain does cancel these events.

The Muppet Movie – Rio Theatre – August 3rd

Looking for something to entertain the kids this weekend?  The Muppet Movie is showing at 1:00 pm at the Rio Theatre this Saturday.

43rd Annual Powell Street Festival – August 3rd & 4th

This weekend you are invited to celebrate Japanese-Canadian heritage at the 43rd Annual Powell Street Festival happening Saturday and Sunday. The event happens on Powell Street near Jackson from 11:30 am to 7:00 pm both days. For more info, visit Powell Street Festival.

Soul Folk Sunday – Café Deux Soleils – August 4th

James Villa and Hayley Lynn make their way up from Portland, Oregon for Soul Folk Sunday at Café Deux Soleils. Great way to spend a Sunday evening if you are staying in town for the long weekend. Doors open at 8:00 pm, music gets under way at 9:00 pm.

Buena Vista Social Club – Rio Theatre – August 5th

The Oscar nominated documentary about an American guitarist bringing together the Cuban folk musicians now in their 90s to record a Grammy Award winning CD in their native city of Havana.  We hear there is amazing concert footage and features gigs in Amsterdam and New York. The film not only features the music, but the life stories of the musicians of the Buena Vista Social Club. Movie shows at 6:20 pm Monday, August 5th.

Vancouver Vegan Festival – Creekside Park – July 27th

The Vegan Project, Peace People Project and Peaces are hosting the 1st ever Vancouver Vegan Festival this Saturday at Creekside Park near Science World.  This is a free all day all ages event celebrating vegan food and culture on the waterfront at Creekside Park.  There will be over 70 vendors on hand, free yoga, apparel, live music, opportunities to learn more about activism and zero waste.  Event kicks off at 11:00 and runs to 5:00 pm.

Summer Festa – Luppolo Brewing – July 27th

Luppolo Brewing Co., 1123 Venables Street, is hosting a Summer Festa this Saturday.  LA Street Meast will be on hand with what we hear are the best hot dogs.  There will be music by DJ Selecta Browna in the afternoon and at 5:00 pm Bonefire Ballerina perform.  Event happens between 1:00 and 9:00 pm.

Bee In – Moberly Arts Centre – July 27th

The Pollinator Pathway group is hosting a “Bee IN” at Moberly Arts and Cultural Centre, 7646 Prince Albert Street on Saturday July 27. Lots of pollinator-related activities for the whole family. You are invited to come learn more about local pollinators and their habitat. Event happens from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.

Sunday Summer Series – Grandview Park – July 28th

Vancouver Greek Summerfest – All Weekend Long

The Vancouver Greek Summerfest is now daily until July 14th at 4541 Boundary Road and 29th Avenue. Lots of great food and live music. If you head down on a weekend, it does get busy when it comes to seating. Taking transit? The location is a 10 minute walk from the Joyce Skytrain Station. We also learnt that all proceeds from food sales go back into supporting registered charities in the community.  Is there a reason not to go? Playland Nights – Playland – July 5th

Playland Nights returns tonight and will continue every Friday in July.  This is an adult only evening (19+) which features the usual fun, food and rides, but with fully licensed grounds. This means you can enjoy your beverage of choice throughout the park while taking in the entertainment available.  General admission is $29.00. for tickets visit Playland Nights.

If You Could Read My Mind: Gordon Lightfoot – Rio Theatre – July 5th & July 7th

The Rio Theatre hosts the documentary If You Could Read My Mind Friday night. It features the life and music of the Canadian music icon, Gordon Lightfoot and some of his famous friends and fans including Geddy Lee (Rush), Randy Bachman, Anne Murray and many others.  This is billed is an intimate and emotional examination of the artist’s profound relationship to his music and his Canadian roots. Documentary runs Friday night at 6:15 pm. If you can’t make that, it’s showing again on Sunday at 1:20 pm. For tickets, visit Rio Theatre.

Car Free Day – Commercial Drive – July 7th

Car Free Day where it all began happens this Sunday on Commercial Drive between Noon and 7:00 pm. Car Free Day  stretches 15 blocks along Commercial Drive between Venables and The Grandview Cut. and features activities for all ages, food and entertainment all day long.   This is a free family friendly event which is accessible by bus, Skytrain and cycling all of which is encouraged.

Mini Car Free Day – Commercial Street/Cedar Cottage – July 7th

The great street in Cedar Cottage that boasts the Commercial Street Café, Second Nature Home, Toso Wood Gallery, Vancouver Tool Library and Chance Café and soon to be Flourist, are hosting their own Mini Car Free Day this Sunday on the 3400-3500 block of Commercial Street.  Expect to find live music, chainsaw carving, giant Jenga game, street art, bike repair, chocolate tasting, artisans and kids activities. Although Flourist is not open just yet, we hear they will have a table with delectable things on hand. We suggest you get there early.  Event happens 11:00 am to 6:00 pm.

The Vancouver Market – Wise Hall – July 7th

The Vancouver Market featuring 20+ local vendors happens at The Wise Hall, 1882 Adanac Street this Sunday, July 7th.  Whether you are looking for new or vintage, likely to find an array of unique items. Event happens 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Admission is $2.00.

21st Century Flea Market – Croatian Cultural Centre – July 7th

21st Century Flea Market is back at the Croatian Cultural Centre this Sunday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.  Some 175 vendors will be on hand with collectibles, antiques, kitsch, vintage and whole lot more.  Who knows you could find.  Admission is $5.00 OR for early birds wanting to get a jump on things $20 from 7:00 am to 10:00 am.

Ocean.net – Havana Theatre – June 28th & 29th

One room, one ocean, four humans and the fate of the world balanced on a raft. Let’s hope everyone knows how to float. The Promethean Theatre Company brings an original piece of theatre to the stage at the Havana Theatre.  Tickets are $16 and $12 for students.

7th Annual Burlesque Long Form – Rio Theatre – June 29th

Looking to be entertained this long weekend? Five of Vancouver’s burlesque performers take the stage with a special guest from Seattle to bring you an evening of burlesque long firm this Saturday night.  You can expect some outlandish props and narratives. Vocal Workshop With Coco Love Alcorn – Wise Hall – June 29th 

Love to sing? Need a bit of practice/work?  You are invited to come sing with Coco Love Alcorn this Saturday afternoon at the Wise Hall.  For 2 hours, she will teach you songs, lead improvisation exercises and show you how to do some fun songwriting. Movie ‘The Shining’ Remastered Edition – Rio Theatre – June 30th

Canada Day Celebration – Grandview Park – July 1st

St. Patrick’s Spring Fair/Night Market-2881 Main Street – June 14th

St. Patrick’s Elementary School is hosting a big fundraiser and by the looks of things a whole lot of fun. They’ve got a bouncy castle, face painters, balloon artists, air brush tattoos and along with activities for the kids, they have a night market for the adults. Event happens 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Italian Market–Italian Cultural Centre – June 14th

The Italian Cultural Centre hosts their outdoor summer market this Friday from 4:30 – 9:30 pm.  You will find a distinct Italian flavor of food at this market and then add in local artisans with handmade items, live music and this year, the opportunity to learn about bees and beehives.  The market is free to attend, the bee hive tours are $15 and require registration.

Eastside Flea–550 Malkin Avenue  – June 14th – June 16th

The Eastside Flea kicks off Friday night at 5:00 pm and continues Saturday and Sunday at 550 Malkin Avenue from 11 am to 5 pm. Lots of great vintage finds along side local makers, food trucks and cocktails will be available for purchase. Admission is $2.00.

The Great Grandview Garage Sale – Grandview Woodlands-  June 15th

The Great Grandview Garage Sale is back this Saturday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. This  is a multi-family garage that takes place all over the Grandview Woodlands area of East Van. Main Street Car Free Day–Main Street – June 16th

Main Street Car Free Day happens this Sunday, June 16th from Noon to 7:00 pm.  Main Street will be blocked to car traffic from Broadway to 30th Avenue. A street party happens along the stretch with performers, artisans, non-profits, arts, music, activities and more.  This is a free family friendly event.

10th Annual Vancouver Craft Beer Festival – PNE Fairgrounds – June 8th & 9th 

If you love beer, this is the place to be this weekend. The 10th Annual Vancouver Craft Beer Festival happens this Saturday and Sunday at the PNE Fairgrounds.  Featuring over 300 beers and ciders from BC and the US, there will be lots on offer including food trucks.  Tickets are $39 for one day, or you can purchase a weekend pass for $65. Tickets are available through Ticketleader.

Bridal Pop Up – The Garden – June 8th

This is one of the biggest street parties in the City and a personal favourite, Italian Day happens this Sunday from Noon to 8:00 pm.  Car traffic is blocked from the Grandview Cut to Venables Street for the day. There will be lots of great eats, live music and activities for all ages. Free to attend and wander.

Retro Design & Antiques Fair – Croatian Cultural Centre – June 9th

This Sunday you can find some 185 tables with vintage, collectables and antiques at the Croatian Cultural Centre. The event goes from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm .

Main Street Mixed Bag – Ellis Building – June 9th
