Tugboat Landing Artisan Market December 3 & 4, 2022

21 Nov

Have you made your way down to the walking trails along the Fraser River in SE Vancouver?  If you have, you will come across an area called Tugboat Landing at the foot of Victoria Drive at East Kent Avenue South.  If you aren’t familiar with this area, it once housed tugboats at this landing on the Fraser River hence the name. It was redeveloped into a community of condos and townhomes that enjoy river front living.  The area is located on a public walkway and cycle path just steps away from Gladstone Park and less than a mile West of the growing River District development.

Here you will find the 6th Annual Tugboat Landing Artisan Market.  This is a boutique artisan market that happens on December 3rd & 4th in SE Vancouver at 2010 East Kent Avenue at the foot of Victoria Drive.  They have a great line up of vendors that make it fun and easy to shop for gifts in an inviting and cozy space.

Some of what you can expect to find include handmade artisan chocolates by Ladner Artisan Chocolates, stunning sterling silver jewellery by Sole Tibi Studio, dog wear by ScouterWear and dog treats by Barks & Biscuits for your 4 legged friends. If you are looking for gifts for the wee ones, Guava Jelly will be on hand with handpainted infant wear and t-shirts. If you are looking for hostess gifts, Tea Lani with handcrafted teas and handmade artistic soaps by Ava Luna Creations.

If you are looking to do some entertaining over the holidays, you may wish to check out Mad Laboratory Distilling who will be hand with their small batch spirits. Their spirits will pair nicely with Koldie’s Mixers  which cocktail mixers come in 4 delicious flavours. If you are looking for non-alcoholic options to serve over the holidays, Everything Wine – River District will on hand providing samples of their selection of non-alcoholic beverages.

What would the holidays be without some sweet treats? Swiss Bakery will be on hand Saturday, December 3rd with Gingermen, Gingerwomen, Gingerbread House Kits, sugar cookies and German Stollen.  If you love handcrafted leather goods, be sure to check out DiG Leather.  Artist, Sheena Singh, will be featuring handpainted holiday decor.  Looking for live holiday décor, 8BFlowerco will be featuring bouquets, Grinch trees and more.

Bower Fibre Goods will also be on hand with beautifully crafted textiles and LoveandLucyCo with candles, gem stones and jewellery.   ILiveInEastVan will be on site with a selection of totes, t-shirts and their new sew-on reflective patches. Knit Collective will be on hand with cozy designs to keep you warm this winter.  Lots of great options to shop and support local this holiday season.

This boutique artisan market has been deemed a Hidden Gem and 1 of 17 Happening Holiday Markets by Destination Vancouver. It’s a cozy inviting space away from all the crazy crowds. Stop by for hot cocoa or coffee and some sweet treats while warming up in front of the fireplace.  Food and drink will be available by donation with all proceeds going to BC SPCA and SAINTS (Senior Animals In Need Today Society) Rescue. Market hours will be 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Admission is free. To learn more, visit them online at Tugboat Landing Artisan Market, or give them a follow @tugboatlandingartisanmarket on Instagram.

The Big List Of Artisan Markets + Craft Fairs In East Van 2022

12 Nov

It’s that time of year again where the opportunities to shop local are abundant.  There are some great artisan markets and craft fairs coming up to help you make your gift giving easy whether for Christmas or birthday gifts.  Did you know: “for every $100 spent with a BC local business, $64 is re-circulated back into our BC economy versus $14 for multi nationals. Why? Because locally owned businesses circulate more dollars in the community compared to multinational organizations.”

When you buy from a local maker, you’re supporting your neighbor next door, your co-worker working full-time and holding down a side gig, moms carving out some extra income while still being home with their families. All have created a business doing something they love and are passionate about.  We are 100% behind supporting those local dreamers and makers. Also, buying local is better for the environment. Items at markets are not being shipped long distances and there is usually much less packaging involved. All around win win. To that end, we have again created a list of all the artisan markets and craft fairs happening in East Vancouver this holiday season. Here’s hoping our big list will make it easier for you to shop local this holiday season.

East Van Panto Celebrates 10 Years With Their Own Spin On The Little Mermaid

6 Nov

The Cultch and Theatre Replacement are thrilled to present East Van Panto: The Little Mermaid, November 16, 2022 until January 1, 2023, at the York Theatre.

For a decade, Theatre Replacement and The Cultch have partnered to bring this holiday tradition like no other. It transforms well-known stories with an East Van twist and has something for all ages. This year, East Van Panto is going under the sea with a wild East Van-centric adventure to the bottom of the Burrard Inlet and back.

In East Van Panto: The Little Mermaid, Ariel is busking with her girl band at New Brighton Beach, when she falls in love with a teenage mer-person. She dives into an ocean adventure, where she makes a questionable deal with a devilish octopus named Ursula, fights off evil electric eels with her trash crab BFF, Sebastian, and has to help save the ocean from a mysterious purple slime of despair.

The writer-director duo from last year’s East Van Panto: Alice in Wonderland, Sonja Bennett and Meg Roe, return to create this year’s 10th anniversary production with Veda Hille, who has been writing the music and fun parodies of popular songs since East Van Panto began. For those that have attended past shows, you will know the music is great every year. Tickets start are $35 and are now available online for in person shows with audience participation encouraged. If you prefer to take in the show from the comfort of home, The Little Mermaid is available to watch online on-demand from December 17, 2022 – January 31, 2023 through RE/PLAY, The Cultch’s digital playground. To learn more, visit The Cultch.

“It is the silliest, most wonderful of traditions.
And for me, it has become essential.”
The Globe and Mail

“If the East Van Panto isn’t part of your holiday tradition yet,
what are you waiting for?”
Georgia Straight

“East Van Panto has earned its place as one of the best-loved holiday traditions in Vancouver…”
