Free Drive-In Movies At River District September 15th – October 13th

DriveInMovieDrive-In Movies are back at River District on the Fraser River in SE Vancouver. Wesgroup Properties and River District are hosting double feature films starting Saturday, September 15th that will be running weekly until October 27th and guess what, they are FREE! The Drive-In is located at 3650 E. Kent Avenue South which is located 1/2 a block south of Marine Way at Boundary Road.  Gates open at 6:30 pm and the movie gets under way at 7:15 pm with the second show getting under way at 9:30 pm (approximate times).  River District will provide you with the FM station for audio, so you need a working FM station to partake. This event is first come first serve, so best to arrive early to claim your spot. We’ve set out the schedule below as we know it today.  Note, these are subject to change without notice. Halloween Drive-In Movies At River District

HalloweenPumpkinsHalloween Drive-In Movies are happening this October on the Fraser River in SE Vancouver. Wesgroup Properties and Fresh Air Cinema are again hosting double feature films leading up to Halloween on October 21st and October 28th. The cost is $20 per carload for one movie, $30 for two movies. The Drive-In is located at 3650 E. Kent Avenue South which is located 1/2 a block south of Marine Way at Boundary Road.  Gates open at 6:30 pm and the movie gets under way after 7:00 pm.  River District will provide you with the FM station for audio, so you need a working FM station to partake. This event is first come first serve, so best to arrive early to claim your spot.  Note, movies are subject to change. Therefore, please visit River District to confirm what’s playing. Also, if you visit them online to purchase your tickets, save $5 using the code RIVERDISTRICT.

The Goblin Market – York Theatre – On Now Till October 14, 2017

A well known poem, Goblin Market, by Christina Rosetti forms the basis of this performance and what a performance.  To say contemporary circus doesn’t quite do it justice, it is so much more. The art, the music, the athleticism of the performers, the sexuality, the sisterhood. It’s something to see. We highly recommend seeing this show. Tickets are available through The Cultch.

Oktoberfest – The Alpen Club – October 6 & 7, 2017

Want to get your fill of German beer and food along with some live music? We suggest you check out Oktoberfest at The Alpen Club. Pull out those lederhosen and dirndls and get ready to dance.  Event happens Friday and Saturday night kicking off at 8:00 pm.   If you can’t make it this weekend, the festivities carry throughout the month on Fridays and Saturdays.

 Vancouver Mural Festival: Official Guided Tours – October 7, 2017

Check out some of the amazing street art in Mount Pleasant and False Creek Flats this Saturday. The guided tour connects you with the beauty that is their work but also some background about the artist’s vision, medium and creative process for each piece. Drive-In Movie – River District – October 7, 2017

This Saturday is a last in a series of Drive-In Movies being held in SE Vancouver along the Fraser River. River District hosts this double feature movie event with a 7:00 pm showing of Cars 3 after which follows a 9:15 pm showing of Baby Driver. Cost is $20 per carload for one movie, $30 per carload for both movies.

Mount Pleasant Farmers Market – Dude Chilling Park – October 8, 2017

This is the last market of the season at Guelph Park/Dude Chilling Park. Perfect spot to stock up for delish eats for Thanksgiving dinner.  Market runs from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Tango Lessons – Italian Cultural Centre – September 15, 2017

Looking for a perfect date night?  We suggest trying out a tango lesson at the Italian Cultural Centre. This is currently a weekly event happening on Friday nights until the end of October. Classes run from 6:00 – 7:30 pm. Cost is $20 per person per class, or you can register by the month at a cost of $60.

Vancouver Fringe Festival – September 7-17, 2017

First Pick Handmade – Heritage Hall – September 16 & 17, 2017

First Pick Handmade brings together 27 Canadian men’s and women’s fashion accessory designers. The Heritage Hall will be transformed into a 3,300 square foot pop up boutique with a variety of items for men and women. Event runs Saturday (11:00 am – 7:00 pm and Sunday (10:00 am – 6:00 pm). Admission is $3 at the door.

Drive-In Movie – River District – September 16, 2017

After a false start last weekend with a last minute cancellation, Drive-In Movies are back at River District. The evening starts off this Saturday with a showing of Wonder Woman at 7:30 pm, followed by The Transformers The Last Knight at 10:00 pm.  Cost is $20 per carload for one movie and $30 per carload for 2 movies.  Gates open at 6:45 pm and is first come first serve

Tailgate Party – Whisky Six BBQ  – September 17, 2017

Whisky Six BBQ at 826 Renfrew Street invites you for a Tailgate Party with BBQ, beer and cocktails. We hear the good folks at Bomber Brewing and Odd Society Spirits will be on hand.  Event runs from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Story Story Lie – Rio Theatre – September 21, 2017

Can you spot a liar? Story Story Lie is an interactive, live and laughter filled show with one simple premise: Vancouver’s best share intimate, hilarious and often embarrassing stories that seem too strange to be true. The catch? Someone’s lying. The audience takes part in an interrogation to reveal who it is. The Westender calls this show “One of the most inventive events on the Vancouver arts calendar” Story Story Lie now moves to a bigger space at The Rio Theatre for its first show in this venue on Thursday, September 21st.  Tickets are available in advance for $10 online or $12 at the door.

If you are looking to listen to music, Columbian group Breaking Boundaries will be performing at Café Deux Soleils on Friday night. Cover is $5-10. Halloween Drive-In Movies This October At River District

DriveInMovieIf you love Halloween and all the fun activities that come with it, there are no lack of things to do in Vancouver this year. River District in SE Vancouver is hosting one of many fun events with Halloween themed drive-in movies. They will be showing family friendly movies over two weekends, October 21st/22nd and October 28th/29th. Most evenings have two showings 7:00 and 9:30 pm, save for October 28th.  You are invited to load up the car for $20 (up to 8 people). To purchase your tickets, visit Picatic.com. The Drive-In is located at 3650 E. Kent Avenue South which is located just west of Boundary Way and before Kinross Street in SE Vancouver. Gates open at 5:30 pm. River District will provide you with the FM station for audio, so a working radio/FM station will round out your experience.  There is space for 250 cars, but these events are first come first served. Christmas Drive-In Movies At River District December 11 & 12

ElfMovieWell it’s time to bundle up, load up the car and head down to River District to watch a Christmas classic movie.  If you’ve never experienced a drive-in movie, here’s your chance. Happening December 11th and 12th with 2 movies each evening, it will be a nice break from the hustle and bustle that will invariably come with the holiday season.  Fresh Air Cinema will be hosting Canada’s only Christmas Drive-In.  The movie line up includes:

Friday, December 11 at 7:00 pm – How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Friday, December 11 at 9:30 pm – A Christmas Story
Saturday, December 12 at 7:00 pm –The Polar Express
Saturday, December 12 at 9:30 pm – Elf

The River District Drive-In is located at 3650 E. Kent Avenue South which is located just west of Boundary Way and before Kinross Street in SE Vancouver.  River District will provide you with the FM station for audio, so a working radio/FM station and free popcorn to round out your experience. The cost is $20 for a carload pass which entitles you to one vehicle, yourself and 7 guests.  Tickets are available for purchase online at Picatic.com or click on the link of the movie you wish to see above.
