Summer is officially here and should you feel like you need a bit of a tropical vibe in your life, you may wish to mark a couple dates on your calendar. Local distiller, Odd Society Spirits, 1725 Powell Street, is hosting Tiki Nights this summer on Thursday, July 4th and Thursday, August 1st. You are invited to join them for a BBQ, music and refreshing Tiki drinks made by Barman Chad Rivard. We hear some special Tiki recipes will be available using their spirits. No ticket purchase required, just put on your best tropical dress or Hawaiian shirt and come down between 6:00 pm and 11:00 pm to take a little break from the everyday that’s not very far away.

Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day at Trout Lake. There will be an all day celebration Friday, June 21st that kicks off with a pancake celebration and a friendship walk between 9:00 and 11:00 am. From Noon to 5:00 pm you can find cultural performances, live music, dancing, canoe tours and activities for the kids.
TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival – The Imperial – June 21st Onward

Parallel 49 Brewing Co. 7th Anniversary Party – June 21st
This Friday, local craft brewer, Parallel 49 Brewing celebrates 7 years and they are having a party. Corgi Races – Hastings Racecourse – June 22nd & 23rd
Vancouver’s Hastings Racecourse plays host once again to a corgi dog race this Saturday and Sunday. To view the races is free of charge. The winning pooch gets $500 in prize money and a Bosley’s prize pack. The event kicks off at 1:15 pm Saturday and Sunday. There will also be food trucks, live music and food trucks on hand.
East Side Pride – Grandview Park – June 22nd
East Side Pride is a family oriented pride event happening in Grandview Park this Saturday from Noon to 6:00 pm. You can expect to find local artists businesses alongside burlesque and drag performances. If you get hungry, there will be food trucks on hand. This is a free event. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Cider Tasting At The Cultch June 27th

The Cultch will be hosting a Cider Tasting featuring Windfall Cider, Lonetree Cider, Sea Cider among others. You are invited to come learn about cider making and the apple varieties used in the making cider while enjoy some appetizers. The event takes place in The Cultch Lobby. Trout Lake Outdoor Summer Concert Series Returns July 3rd

The Trout Lake Outdoor Summer Concert Series is back for another year starting Wednesday, July 3, 2019. If you have not checked out this great free summer event, you are missing out on the perfect summer evening. This annual event is hosted by the Trout Lake Community Center at 3360 Victoria Drive. Concerts happen every Wednesday evening throughout the summer rain or shine. If it rains, concerts go indoors to the Grandview Room. We’ve had the opportunity to take in some of the concerts on a nice summer evening and we have to say, it is a pretty perfect way to spend an evening. Bring a blanket, your friends, family, kids or the dog or all of the above and a picnic and you are set. If you aren’t able to organize a picnic, you can grab some food at the Carousel Café. We have set out the musical line up for this summer below. Each evening kicks off at 6:30 pm. By the way, dancing is encouraged.
For those that love the lantern processions around Trout Lake, take note. On th
e very last concert of the summer, August 28th, there will be an opportunity to make lanterns from 6:00 pm to 8:15 pm after which there will be a lantern procession along with performers and musicians around Trout Lake at dusk (8:30 pm). Keep an eye out for the Lantern Tent to make yours that evening, or bring your own creation from home.

The market is free to attend, the bee hive tours are $15 and require registration.
Eastside Flea–550 Malkin Avenue – June 14th – June 16th

Did You Miss Vancouver Craft Beer Week? Nicole Alivojvodic Runs Down What You Missed

Kicking off on the last weekend of May every year, Vancouver Craft Beer Week (VCBW) is a 10-day celebration of craft beer, culminating at the historic PNE fairgrounds for a massive festival. Now celebrating its 10th year, VCBW festival saw thousands of craft beer and cider enthusiasts from all over the Lower Mainland and beyond this past weekend. This is a huge leap from the first festival, which started at a small venue hosting about 100 beer aficionados and 15 breweries. Over the past 9 years, it has evolved from Canada’s first-ever craft beer week into a multi award-winning cultural engine that showcases music, food, art, and craft beer at events across the city.
Not a beer drinker? You might want to consider becoming one. With brews like Fuggles & Warlock’s “The Last Mango Witbier” and the “Wide Mouth Watermelon Wheat Ale” courtesy of Foamers’ Folly (my two personal favourites) you might as well be drinking boozy fruit juice while lounging on the grass listening to live music. Beer connoisseur? Choose from more than 300 brews from 100+ breweries and cideries. With so much choice, you’re sure to find something new. And let’s not forget about the food. There were more than 15 food trucks throughout the festival grounds ready to satisfy any craving, be it mac n’ cheese, Triple O’s, or traditional pierogies. I have to say I was nearly as excited about getting a Bandidas burrito as I was to taste the beers.
If you haven’t yet attended the Vancouver Craft Beer Week Festival, mark you calendars for next year because this is the perfect way to kick off summer in Vancouver.

This multi-family garage sale now in its 6th year draws a crowd rain or shine. Good news though, seems sunshine is in the forecast. The Great Grandview Garage Sale takes place, as the name eludes, throughout the Grandview-Woodlands area of East Vancouver. Specifically from Broadway to the Burrard Inlet and from Clark Drive to Nanaimo Street. If you live in the area, you are invited to participate and it is FREE to sign up. East Van Garden Tour June 16th

If you love gardening, or want to learn more, or maybe just get some great ideas for yours, you will want to grab your ticket(s) for the upcoming East Van Garden Tour. This is a self-guided tour that happens Sunday, June 16th between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. It’s a great opportunity to see what creative projects people have undertaken in their gardens. Many of the owners are available to chat as well and answer questions. Whether you have a home, patio garden or a community garden, The East Van Garden Tour is a great source of inspiration and ideas. To participate, purchase your tickets in advance. Show up on June 16th at Figaro’s Garden Centre the morning of the event and obtain your map. After that you head off to tour the gardens map in hand until 4:00 pm. Stop for coffee before, during or after and go at your own pace. It’s a great way to spend a few hours.
To purchase tickets, you have 3 options: 1) Online through Eventbrite, 2) Call Figaro’s Garden Centre, 1896 Victoria Drive (at 3rd Avenue) or 3) Call Britannia Community Services Centre, 1661 Napier Street, in person or by phone 604-718-5800. Tickets are $15 each. Note: People who attend the tour will also get a one-time discount 20% discount at at Figaro’s starting on the day of the tour until July 1st.
