On Thursday, October 3rd Everything Wine located in River District in SE Vancouver is hosting Sake & Umeshu Tasting Class: Japan Visit Vancouver. You will have the unique opportunity to meet four luminaries of sake and umeshu (plum wine) who have come to Vancouver from Japan. They will introduce you to the making of sake and umeshu and discuss their historic breweries and products alongside finger food and of course tastings. Cost of the class is $30 and it happens this Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Vancouver Fringe Festival – Various Venues – September 5th to 15th
The Vancouver Fringe Festival has kicked off for another year with a great line up of talent. Although many of the shows are playing on Granville Island, there are many shows happening at East Van venues including Havana Theatre, The Cultch, Wise Hall, What Lab and The Firehall Arts Centre. Summer Savour Festival – River District Centre – September 7th
Wesgroup Properties is hosting their last free summer event this Saturday in the River District Town Centre. The afternoon starts off with Yeeri the Magician followed by music by Kutapira, Gina Lina and the Katherines. Event happens between 2:00 and 6:00 pm. The Vancouver Mural Festival continues this weekend with one of the big musical events, The Park Show in Jonathon Rogers Park. The festival is a great opportunity to check out some of the 25+ new murals around Vancouver. There will also be a spirit lifting puppet and clown parade by the folks behind the Dusty Flower Pot in the alley way between 6th and 7th Avenue off Main Street. Savour Summer Festival Happens at River District Town Centre August 10th

If are looking for some free summer fun and entertainment, you may wish to check out the Savour Summer Festival happening this Saturday, August 10th at the River District Town Centre, 8550 River District Crossing. The festival features summer games, mini golf, a dunk tank in support of local charities along with the latest craze which we hear is axe throwing?! We also hear a beer garden will be available for 19+ patrons. If you don’t already know, an Everything Wine store is located across from the River District Town Centre and they will have lots of in store wine tastings happening during the festival. Westward Music Festival – Rio Theatre – September 15th
Westward Music Festival presents Jordan Klassen & Special Guests Luca Fogale and Abraham at the Rio Theatre this Saturday. Tickets are $15 and available via Westward FesWestward Fest. Note, the Festival also takes place Friday night at the Rio with a different line up of talent.
First Pick Handmade – Heritage Hall – Sept. 15th & 16th
First Pick Handmade happens at the Heritage Hall this weekend at which you will find 30 Canadian fashion and accessory designers. Whether it’s to browse or shop, stop by and see what our Canadian designers are working on. First Pick Handmade happens 11:00 am to 6:00 pm Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $3.00.
Meet & Greet The Candidates – Commercial Street Café Sept. 15th & 16th
This weekend Commercial Street Café, 3599 Commercial Street, continues their series hosting meet and greets for those running for Mayor of Vancouver. This Saturday, come chat with Hector Bremner from 10:00 am to Noon. On Sunday, Ken Sim will be hand also from 10:00 am to Noon.
Free Movie ‘Maudie’ – Britannia Community Centre – September 16th
Britannia Community Centre is hosting another free movie Sunday night 6:00 pm. This week they are featuring Maudie along with free popcorn.
West Side Story Sing-A-Long – Rio Theatre – September 16th
As part of the world-wide celebration the legendary composer, Leonard Bernstein, the Rio Theatre is hosting a celebratory Sing-A-Long screening of his restored masterpiece West Side Story this Sunday at 6:00 pm. This is an all ages show.

Looking for live music this weekend? Café Deux Soleils has live music Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. Tangent Café hosts live jazz Sunday nights and this week Natasha D’Agastino takes the stage from 6:00 – 8:30 pm. If you are looking for jazz in the afternoon, Pat’s Pub has live jazz Saturday from 3-7 pm, no cover.
