Our weekly feature What’s On East Van sets out some cool events for the upcoming week.  Beyond the week, we invite you to check out our Event Listing which is updated daily and features events for the month and beyond.

Storytelling With Drag Queens – Café Deux Soleils – December 28th 

You are invited for an evening of decidedly adult entertainment, Storytelling With Drag Queens, happens at Café Deux Soleils Friday night.  You can expect some sassy and sexy readings about love.  Event kicks off at 9:00 pm. Cover is by donation.

Harmonies of Hope – Havana Vancouver – December 28th

Harmonies of Hope is part of a 3 day event featuring comedy, music and fun to raise funds for a young man with Muscular Dystrophy. Friday’s event features David Symons, Colleen Rennison, TJ Dawe, David C. Jones and more.  Tickets are $5 – $50 and available through Showpass.

Cabaret of Hope – Havana Vancouver – December 29th

The Cabaret of Hope is the last part of a 3 day event featuring comedy, music, readings to help raise funds for a young man with Muscular Dystrophy.  Saturday’s event features magicians as well as impersonators, Shawn Major and much more.   Tickets are $5-50 and available through Showpass.

Documentary ‘This Mountain Life’ – Rio Theatre – December 29th

A final screening of the documentary This Mountain Life which showcases stunning visuals. The film follows Martina and her 60 year-old mother Tania who embark on a 6 month, 2300 km journey from Squamish, BC to Alaska through a relentless mountain wilderness. This Mountain Life screens this Saturday, December 29th at 1:00 pm.

CASH-The Man Comes Around – The Heatley – December 29th 

The Heatley is hosting a pre New Year’s Eve event which is a billed as a show, party and an MS fundraiser this Saturday. They  have lined up some of East Van’s best singers and performers to perform the entirety of Johnny Cash’s album CASH American IV-The Man Comes Around. Great record of mostly covers and a few original tunes so there’s a little something for everyone.  Partial proceeds donated to The MS Society of Canada.

East Van Panto: Wizard of Oz – The York Until January 6th 

The East Van Panto continues this weekend at the York Theatre. This is a whole lot of fun for all ages. You can’t help but laugh at the fun digs and political references which poke fun at the unique aspects of our City.  We highly recommend this for a fun night out, or if you prefer a matinee. Tickets available via The Cultch.

Community Skate – PNE Agrodome – December 30th

You are invited to ice skate this Sunday at the PNE Agrodome between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.  No rentals so you need to bring your own skates and helmets. Cost is $3 per adult and $2 per child.

Comedy, Entertainment & Live Music

Looking for live music, Libra Room on The Drive has a regular line up of music. Tangent Café hosts live jazz Sunday nights  from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. Saturday, Pat’s Pub has live jazz Saturday afternoons from 3-7 pm, no cover.
