Reimagining Balance Art Exhibit September 18 & 19

East Van artist, Joanne Probyn, invites you to the opening of her new exhibition Reimagining Balance. Hosted in her new East Van studio the exhibit is a collection of over 2 years of art-making. Joanne will be exhibiting paintings, prints and embroidery. You are invited to join her Saturday, September 18th for the opening night reception from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm for fully vaccinated guests. Sunday, September 19th the exhibit will be open for viewing between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm by appointment only at 1310 William Street, Vancouver. RSVP is required for the opening night reception. Call For Art: New Window Exhibition

The Massy Arts Society is seeking submissions from visual artists to transform the street front window of their new gallery space at 23 East Pender Street. Some may recognize the address as the historic Ming Wo building. The window display will be visible to those walking by on street level. The aim is to support emerging practices of artists of diverse mediums. They are looking for experimental and non-conventional forms of work. If you are interested in submitting your work for consideration, the deadline is August 23rd. The first exhibition opening is planned for September 7th. CREATE! Arts Festival At Woodland Park August 21 & 22

The producers of the Eastside Culture Crawl Festival are bringing you a new innovative event, that being the CREATE! Arts Festival. The CREATE! Arts Festival is a new community initiative of the Eastside Arts Society which brings together over 40 local artists for art making. They will help you explore, learn and create art together through a series of affordable and accessible art workshops.

This is an all ages event in which you can learn felt making, ceramics, glass blowing, painting, printmaking, jewellery making and the list goes on. Most of the events will take place outdoors in Woodland Park Saturday August 21st and Sunday, August 22nd with a few workshops taking place in some Eastside studios. Firehall Arts Centre Presents Music In The Courtyard

The Firehall Arts Centre and the Vancouver Independent Music Centre present the 2021 Music in the Courtyard series from Friday, July 30th to Sunday, September 5th. The performances for the second edition of this series will take place outdoors in the courtyard at The Firehall Arts Centre at 280 East Cordova Street. The shows will mainly take place Wednesdays to Saturdays at 7:00 pm and Sundays at 3:00 pm. Tickets range from $20 to $40. It is strongly recommended that tickets be purchased in advance as tickets are expected to go quickly. The line up of talent is all over the map. You can expect to hear solo, duo and group performances. The sounds range from a string quartet to rock & roll to artists you might expect to find at the Vancouver Folk Festival to soulful blues.  We invite you to check out the full rundown of talent and grab your tickets by visiting the Firehall Arts Centre.

Note: Each performance will be limited to 50 patrons. Patrons will be required to wear masks in public areas within the building, but may remove their masks once seated in the outdoor courtyard area.

The Havana Theatre on Commercial Drive will play host to a jaw dropping dance cabaret July 27 – August 7. Under the direction of creator and choreographer, Jen Oleksiuk, you can expect an evening of splendid awkwardness, joyous sexuality and wild seduction. The Smoke Show combines enticement and humour in the form of an interactive dance cabaret inspired by modern and classic genres. Artists, Musicians & Performers Wanted For Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival

The Still Moon Arts Society is planning the 19th Annual Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival this September. This is an amazing community event that celebrates the full moon, Autumnal Equinox as well as Renfrew-Collingwood’s diverse community and natural environment through interdisciplinary arts events. They are now recruiting artists, musicians and performers for their Harvest Fair and installation artists for their Streamside Lantern Installation. They are on the hunt for performers with a variety of backgrounds including visible minorities, persons with disabilities, newcomers, BIPOC, and LGBTQAI2s+ folks. Diversity of artists is very important to them. Artists will be paid industry-standard rates for their work ranging from $200-$500 depending on work provided. Noche Flamenca Comes To Havana Theatre

If you have not experienced flamenco dance, you are truly missing out on an amazing experience. The music, the raw emotion, the dance, the storytelling, it’s like being transported to another world. If you wish to check it out, you are in luck as you don’t have to travel far. This July you can catch Noche Flamenca at Havana Theatre, 1212 Commercial Drive. The show will feature the most established Flamenco artists in the city who are continuing the legacy of Vancouver’s Flamenco scene that began at the legendary Kino almost 30 years ago. You are invited to come experience the rhythm, passion and power of this Spanish music and dance tradition. There are several upcoming shows with the first one kicking things off on July 2nd. Hosts Jake and Carson are doing their own Covid safe interactive improv show that is their take on the Antique Roadshow.
