Still Moon Arts Society Call Out For Volunteers

The Still Moon Arts Society is looking volunteers for their 21st Annual Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival this September.  The Festival has become a significant anchor of community creativity and collective neighbourhood identity. It has raised awareness of the history of the Still Creek watershed, resulting in ongoing community stewardship, and the return of salmon to the ravine. This year’s theme is Water’s Wisdom. If you love the arts, this is a great opportunity to work side by side with a host of talented creatives. If you wish to volunteer, or learn more about the opportunities available, we invite you to reach out to Moon Festival Production Assistant, Alayna Yan at alayna@stillmoonarts.ca. Gourmet Warehouse Lines Up More Delish Cooking Classes

Gourmet Warehouse has added more delish cooking classes heading into the Fall season. If you haven’t already experienced one of their classes, it is a great way to spend an afternoon or evening with some like-minded food lovers. If you have participated, you know it’s a great way to pick up some knowledge and some great tips in the kitchen. Added bonus is after each cooking class all the participants are offered a 10% discount for purchases made the day of your class. TRADITIONAL DELIGHTS: A JOURNEY THROUGH PERSIA – October 10, 2023

Chef Sarah Kashani invites you to experience a culinary adventure through Iranian cuisine in this exclusive cooking class. Chef Kashani will teach you about the rich flavors and aromas of Persian cuisine. This class will help build you skills to tackle classic dishes with confidence. DATE NIGHT IN PARIS – October 25, 2023

Mindful Moves In Pandora Park July 26 – August 16

This a free event that is sponsored by a Neighbourhood Small Grant and features gentle yoga, live music and happy grooves. 47th Annual Powell Street Festival August 5th & 6th

You are invited to come celebrate Japanese Canadian art and culture at the 47th Annual Powell Street Festival happening August 5th & 6th. Festivities will take place in Oppenheimer Park and Paueru Gai (the Powell Street area) from 11:30 am to 7:00 pm. There will be stages showcasing contemporary and traditional artists, community food vendors and crafters offering Japanese delights and designs. You can expect to catch live performances by Kiyoshi & Oleksiy and Katari Taiko as well as dance performances by the Southern Wave Okinawan Music & Dance Society. 3rd Annual Create! Arts Festival July 22-23

Eastside Arts Society will be hosting a fun summer art-making event CREATE! Arts Festival on July 22nd and July 23rd.  This 2 day festival will take place in Strathcona Park on Saturday, July 22nd and in various locations on the East Side on Sunday, July 23, 2023.

You are invited to explore, learn, and create art at a wide variety of visual and performing arts workshops taught by more than 15 local artists. Adults and youth are invited to learn about watercolour painting, needle felting, indigo dying, pottery, glass fusing, photography, ukulele, Salish singing, storytelling, and much more. General admission is also available for the CREATE! Art Zone, which will feature public participation art, art demos, Festival Art Shop, food trucks, beer + wine, and so much more. In addition to a variety of art workshops, demonstrations, and public participation art installations, they are introducing a Festival Art Shop which will feature a curated selection of arts and crafts made by local artists.  There will lots to see and do over the course of the 2 day arts festival. Vancouver’s Greek Summerfest On Boundary July 6-9 and July 13-16

The very delicious Greek Summerfest on Boundary is back!    If you haven’t checked this event out, it is a true culinary experience you don’t want to miss. Along with great food, they have lots of great entertainment lined up including performances by Jim Byrnes, Johnny & The Walkers, Heart and Sole and Alpha Video and along with many others. Food includes souvlaki, BBQ lamb, spanakopita as well as delicious Greek donuts (loukoumades) which are an absolute must try. We understand vegan options have been added to the menu line up.    Greek Summerfest on Boundary takes place at 4541 Boundary Road at 29th Avenue, close to Moscrop Avenue on the Burnaby side. Admission is free. Britannia Plaza Market Returns Weekly June 28 – October 4

The Britannia Plaza Market returns this summer. This is an outdoor market that takes place just outside of the Britannia Community Centre.  The market runs every Wednesday from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm from June 28th to October 4th. You are invited to stop by and check out some local producers, artists and makers which will showcase a variety of items each week including fresh produce, homemade treats, artisanal goods and much more.

8th Annual Art! Bike! Beer! Crawl Happens July 22nd

The Eastside Arts Society is hosting their 8th Annual Art! Bike! Beer! Crawl on Saturday, July 22nd. This is a biking tour, or walking tour if you prefer, to a variety of great East Van breweries.  For the price of a ticket, you will tour 3 of 8 participating breweries, see some great art, receive a tasting flight or pint at 4 stops, plus receive food. You will also have the opportunity to win prizes as well as access to the Create! Arts Festival Art Zone which will be taking place in Strathcona Park on the same day. Tickets are $60 plus GST. Killarney Community Centre Hosts Free Outdoor Summer Concert Series

Killarney Community Centre has just announced their first ever Summer Outdoor Concert Series. This free series kicks off Thursday, July 13th and run bi-weekly until August 24th.   Some limited seating will be provided on a first come first serve basis.   Everyone is welcome to bring a blanket or lawn chairs to enjoy the show.   You can expect to find a variety of local performers including Guilty Pleasure, The Odd Trio, Dan Hare, Third Time Lucky! And Three-O.    For those that get hungry, there is a new Concession stand Sixty 2 Sixty Eats which will be open to serve food and refreshments. In the event of rain, the concerts will be moved indoors to the Seniors Grand Hall. 

Free Outdoor Yoga Returns To Sunrise Park This Summer

Free outdoor yoga returns to Sunrise Park on Tuesday, July 4th.   This event sponsored by a Neighbourhood Small Grant is led by Ruby Wong and other certified yoga instructions. The group will host weekly one hour outdoor classes every Tuesday from July 4th to August 22nd at 7:00 pm at Sunrise Park which is located at Rupert and East 3rd Avenue.
