You are invited to the 4th Annual Strathcona Winter Craft Fair. This event will take place at the Strathcona Community Centre, 601 Keefer Street from 10:00 am –4:00 pm this Saturday, November 29th. There will be many great local artisans including Andrea Hooge, a Vancouver based artist who will be showcasing her original works, City Creations with puppets galore including finger puppets, East Van Jam with fun gourmet jam using locally sourced ingredients, Fable Naturals with a line of fair trade certified bath and body products. Be sure to check out their lip balms in biodegradable cardboard tubes. Also on hand will be Missy So with handmade cards and Tessa Manu Photography. Tessa is a self-taught photographer that is fascinated by intricate details, bright colours, crumbling paint and brick walls, be sure to check out her unique pics. Giving Locally: Vancouver BC SPCA Wish List

We at ILiveInEastVan.com are big supporters of all the great work the staff and volunteers do at the Vancouver SPCA. The SPCA is a non-profit organization that helps nearly 37,000 injured, abused and homeless animals each year and relies on generous donations from supporters. We provide our support wherever we can. If you follow us, you know we regularly feature many of the pets waiting for adoption. Today, we would like to tell you about a different way you can support the Vancouver SPCA. That is by contributing some much needed items from their Wish List. Maybe you have some extra items at home that they could use, or maybe you would like to purchase a few items from their Wish List for them this Christmas. Which ever way you choose to support them, these items go a long way to helping them do the great work they do. If you do purchase new items to be donated, keep your receipt and drop it off with some identification and you are eligible for a tax receipt for income tax purposes. We have set out below a short list of some of the most wanted items that would help them immensely, we invite you to take a peek:

Donations can be dropped off at the Vancouver Shelter at 1205 East 7th Avenue (at the corner of East 6th Avenue & Keith Drive). For those taking transit, the Vancouver SPCA Shelter is located across the street from the VCC-Clark Skytrain Station. The shelter is open Monday to Friday 10:30 am – 5:00 pm and Saturday & Sunday from Noon – 4:00 pm and items can be dropped anytime during those times. 31st Annual Christmas Craft Fair At Britannia Secondary School November 21 – 23

The Britannia Christmas Craft Fair is back for its 31st year this weekend. The event will be held in Gyms A & B at Britannia Secondary School, 1001 Cotton Drive. You can expect to find a large array of handmade goods including Aboriginal artwork, jewellery, pottery, woodwork, celtic knots, food vendors and live entertainment. Admission is $2, but children under 12 are free. The event is sponsored by the Britannia Community Education with all proceeds raised going to inner-city youth programs. The craft fair runs Friday, November 21st from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and on the Saturday & Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

4 Days, 417 Artists, 79 Buildings … This Is The Eastside Culture Crawl: One of East Van’s Iconic Events

The Eastside Culture Crawl is a now an expanded 4 day arts extravaganza which officially kicks off this Thursday, November 20th . During ‘the Crawl’, over 400 artists in and around the heart of East Vancouver open their studios to the public. The event comprises some 79 buildings from Main Street to Victoria Drive and First Avenue to Powell Street. The mediums vary and include painters, jewelers, sculptors, textile artists, furniture makers, weavers, potters, printmakers, wood carvers and photographers. There is no set schedule for this event, you go where your mood and interests take you. To help guide you, the Eastside Culture Crawl has a great rundown of all the artists on their website including a printable .PDF map to help you find your way. The Crawl runs November 20th and 21st from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Saturday, November 22nd and Sunday, November 23rd from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
For those with wee ones, this year there is an opportunity to bring them along and have them participate in artistic endeavours. With the support of the Eastside Culture Crawl and Opus Art Supplies, melk art & design has extended an invitation to parents to bring their children into the melk studio, 936 Clark Drive, to create screen-printed and stenciled works of art. This event encourages children’s participation during the Crawl while allowing them to experience their own creativity in a unique studio space with guidance from a working artist. This event will run from Noon – 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22nd and Sunday, November 23rd. Cost is by donation.
If you wish to mix things up and do some side trips in and around the East Vancouver while on the Crawl, there are so many wonderful stops along the way. For instance, in Railtown there is Vancouver Urban Winery & Lounge for a bit of wine or beer tasting. There are more beer options if you head West a little ways including Parallel 49 Brewing Company, Bomber Brewing and Powell Street Craft Brewery. If Belgian beer is more up your alley Biercraft on Commercial Drive or if you prefer to try some beer from the Pacific Northwest, Stateside Craft is your spot (also on Commercial Drive). Or you could make a stop at Odd Society Spirits to give their East Van Vodka a try or any one of their specialty cocktails. Then there is les amis du fromage, 843 East Hastings, if you wish to do a little cheese tasting. If you find yourself there on the weekend, check out their Pop Up Shop featuring The Lemon Square, East Van Jam and The Salty Cookie Company. Lots of delicious samples will be on hand. For some more sweet stuff, the Licorice Parlour is a great stop with over 65 flavours on hand. If you are looking for coffee, there are many great options including the Wilder Snail in the heart of Strathcona, Pallet Roasters, 323 Semlin Drive and, of course, an array of excellent choices along Commercial Drive. But if you find yourself in the Stratchona area, don’t pass up a chance to stop by Crackle Crème at 245 Union Street. This sweet little dessert cafe serves up artisan crème brûlée and authentic Belgian liège waffles as well as coffee. It will certainly be one of our stops. There will be many local restaurants, breweries and coffee shops at the ready to help you recharge your batteries before, during or after the Crawl.

Rescue Me: Snow White Cat Marlee Looking For Her Forever Home

Welcome to the next installment of Rescue Me in which we feature pets waiting for adoption at the Vancouver SPCA. Today we would like to introduce you to a sweet girl appropriately named Marlee. This snow white female short hair cat is approximately 1 year old. She came to the Vancouver SPCA as a stray and although she had a tattoo, the SPCA was unable to reach her owners. So now this happy little spitfire of a girl is looking for a forever home. But full disclosure, Marlee is deaf. Thus, she must be a strictly indoor cat for her own safety because of her hearing impairment. Marlee loves to perch herself by a window and meow at a passerby. She is a happy loving girl who is a bit half dog/half cat and the SPCA feels she might do well with some harness and leash training so she can safely enjoy a bit of outdoor time with you. She is a very confident and social cat and loves to be around people. When alone she can sometimes be rather vocal and since she can’t hear herself meow, it’s a little louder than she realizes. For this reason, her friends at the Vancouver SPCA think that apartment dwelling might not be the best for her. This blue eyed beauty would love to find herself a loving forever home with a family that will nurture her for the rest of her days. Could that be you or someone you know? ICONS: Vintage Clothing Market At The Biltmore Cabaret November 16th

ICONs is back for a second Fall edition this Sunday, November 16th at the Biltmore Cabaret. The theme ICONs represents the racy subculture of modern vintage lifestyle which takes design and style cues from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s & a bit of early 90’s cultural icons. Think “Keith Richards, Bridget Bardot, Iggy, Twiggy, Andy Warhol, Jane Birkin, Farrah Fawcett, Madonna, Steve McQueen, Patti Smith, Townes Van Zandt ” and many more. Expect to find items such as psychedelic posters, antiques, records, taxidermy, retro lamps as well as small furniture, cameras and a bit of this and that. There will also be a photo booth, drink specials, a DJ spinning tunes from the 60s and 70s and Local Omnivore food truck serving up burgers and more all day long. The event is being held at the Biltmore Cabaret, 2755 Prince Edward Street. ICONS gets under way at 11:00 am and goes till 5:00 pm. This event is for 19+.

East Van Jewellery Collection Launch Party November 17th

We would like to introduce you to a great new jewellery collection that speaks East Van. Benée Rubin, local jewellery designer and goldsmith is excited to officially launch her new collection East Van Cross Jewellery on November 17th. Benée has lived in Vancouver’s eastside and wanted to use her talent as a master goldsmith and designer to help the women and children in her own neighbourhood. As a long-time supporter of the YWCA and a single mother herself, Benée is donating 10% of the proceeds from the sale of the East Van Jewellery Collection to Crabtree Corner. If you are unfamiliar with Crabtree Corner, it houses a range of programs and services under one roof to help marginalized women and families living in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside feel safer, less isolated, healthier and more empowered to make positive choices.
Benée is proud to say all of the jewellery is locally made and materials are locally sourced. In addition to being available online at beneerubin.com and at her downtown studio, the collection will soon be in select stores and galleries. Winter Farmers Market At Nat Bailey Stadium November 1st – April 25th: Starts Today!

Vancouver Farmers Market returns to Nat Bailey Stadium for their winter market starting today, November 1s,t from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. The market will run every Saturday until April 25th save for December 27th. This is a great opportunity to shop local all winter long. Each week you can expect to find locally grown fruit and vegetables, meat and seafood from local ranchers and fishermen, artisan cheese and bread, herbs and seasonal nursery items, baked goods, prepared foods and artisanal craft. Also on hand, as usual, will be a few food trucks, hot drink vendors and a little live music to keep you entertained. And we hear covered seating areas and warming stations.
And if you miss Saturday’s Winter Market at Nat Bailey Stadium, don’t forget there is also the new Hastings Park Winter Market on Sundays from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm until November 30th. Find this market in the Hastings Sunrise area on the PNE grounds between the Forum and the Agrodome.

The Main Street Vinyl Record Fair celebrates its 5th anniversary in spectacular fashion with a ONE DAY SALE at its new home in the Heritage Hall, 3102 Main Street, on Sunday, November 16th. If you are looking to buy, sell or trade new and/or used vinyl records, this is the place to be. You can expect to find LPs, 45s, 78s, turntables, vintage audio gear, record storage and so much more with over 50 independent vendors. That translates to over 50,000 vinyl records on sale. Rescue Me: Gordy Looking For Her Fovever Home

Welcome to the next installment of Rescue Me in which we feature pets waiting for adoption at the Vancouver SPCA. Today we would like to introduce you to a lovely sassy girl. Her name is Gordy. She is an adult female short hair cat that is 6 years old. Gordy came to the Vancouver SPCA’s care as a stray and has not been claimed by her owners. She enjoys the company of adults and is a pretty independent girl. This sometimes sassy girl likes affection on her own terms. Gordy is looking for a human friend who understands this about her. The folks at the Vancouver SPCA think her ideal home would be with one individual so she can give you all the love she has. They also feel that Gordy would be fine if you have a busy schedule as she tends to entertain herself just fine, but she will definitely be awaiting your arrival home. Her friends at the Vancouver SPCA say that Gordy is good with other felines so a correctly matched kitty companion might suit her well. We understand Gordy loves to chatter (literally) back at you when you talk to her. This pretty girl with a black heart shaped nose is hoping you will let her be the queen she thinks she is. So you are invited to head down to the Vancouver SPCA and say hello to this sweet girl. As Gordy is a long-term resident, she is a no cost adoption.
