Artful Sundays return to the Napier Greenway this summer. If you aren’t familiar with this event, it is weekly outdoor visual art market which happens over 4 Sundays in the Napier Greenway. It happens in a great community space by the Britannia Community Centre located at Commercial Drive & Napier Street. The first event kicks off Sunday, August 11th from Noon to 5:00 pm and for the next 3 Sundays following. We do know that a couple of personal favourites artisans will be at the August 11th event, BagItUpBy Kate to help you reduce plastic use while shopping and Perching Art Clay with some stunning pieces of jewellery. Each Artful Sunday brings a variety of local artists, workshops, artist demonstrations, live music and more. Lots to do and see and it’s free to wander and take in the art that surrounds us. The event takes place in the Napier Greenway at Napier Street & Commercial Drive from Noon – 5:00 pm each Sunday from August 11th to September 1st.

Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival – Call For Artists

The 17th Annual Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival happens September 14th. In advance of that, they have put out a call for artists who have an idea for an illuminated art installation. They are looking to expand and diversify the art that is displayed at the 17th Annual Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival. The event celebrates the full moon and equinox. They are accepting proposals for art installations including lantern art, electronic art, land art and eco-art. No experience with outdoor installations necessary. They are encouraging people from a variety of backgrounds to participate. To learn more about their hopes and requirements for the event, visit Still Moon Arts Society. This Sunday you are invited to participate in the 4th Annual Art, Bike & Beer Crawl. This is a fundraiser for the Eastside Culture Crawl in which you explore East Van’s craft breweries while at the same time supporting local art. Guests will be taken to 3 of the 9 participating breweries after which there will be a wrap tour at Strange Fellows Brewing with tastings, of course. Tickets are $60 each or 2 for $100. Cider Tasting At The Cultch June 27th

If you love cider and the arts, well you can taste some delicious cider while supporting the arts on June 27th. The Cultch will be hosting a Cider Tasting featuring Windfall Cider, Lonetree Cider, Sea Cider among others. You are invited to come learn about cider making and the apple varieties used in the making cider while enjoy some appetizers. The event takes place in The Cultch Lobby. If you love art, this is the place to be this weekend. The Parker Art Salon is happening with a paid preview event Friday night for collectors and a free event Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at 1000 Parker Street. 21st Annual European Festival – The Alpen Club – May 26th
The 21st Annual European Festival happens this Sunday at the Vancouver Alpen Club (Victoria and 33rd Avenue). The festival happens from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm and will feature live music, dance performances, food, artisans and much more. Lucas Dubovik Quartet – Café Deux Soleils – May 26th
Looking to wind down towards the end of the weekend. The Lucas Dubovik Quartet is playing at Café Deux Soleils Sunday night. This group features four young talented musicians from the Vancouver area. They are inspired by the sounds of the 1950s from some of the greats including John Coltrane, Hank Mobley and Sonny Rollins’ quartets. Doors are at 8:00 pm, show begins at 9:00 pm.

Also 7 days a week, you will find live music at the Libra Room on The Drive. Tangent Café hosts live jazz Sunday nights from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. Saturday, Pat’s Pub has live jazz Saturday afternoons from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm, no cover.

Story Story Lie Championships June 12th

It’s the end of the season for the folks at Story Story Lie. That means, Championships! Their season finale brings back the year’s biggest winners to compete for the biggest prize of the year, best storyteller. Each storyteller will bring their most unbelievable story, which is pretty remarkable considering their winning stories include armed robbery, bar fights, role play, accidentally becoming a gang member and boy scouts gone bad. But in the end there can only be one BEST storyteller. Who will it be? Can you spot the liar?
This year’s Championships pits some great local talent against each other. They include:

The Fitting Room At Havana Theatre May 14 – 18, 2019

Four teens. A Mom. A rabbi. One fitting room. Six people all linked to the sudden death of thirteen-year-old Noah after a dare. The Fitting Room is a play about growing up, coming out, facing loss and finding faith. This production on stage at the Havana Theatre starting May 14th until May 18th is brought to you by Victoria Playwright Ellery Lamm and directed by Anna Marie Anderson. The production received Victoria Fringe’s Best Overall Favourite and Bravest Awards. Tickets are $15-$20 and available through Showpass.com.

Love art? Missed the Eastside Culture Crawl? Then you will want to check out the Parker Art Salon happening May 24 to 26, 2019 at 1000 Parker Street. This 105 year old warehouse is home to an array of talented artists. During the Parker Art Salon, the halls will be transformed into a salon style Fine Art Exhibition complete with chandeliers for fun and ambiance. You will have the opportunity to meet many of the artists that work in this space, take a scheduled guided 1 hour tour for $10 or just wander at your own pace on May 25th and 26th from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. If you are in the market to purchase art, you may wish to attend the Collectors Night on Friday, May 24th. This $50 ticket gives you admission to a private reception from 5:30 to 7:00 pm, 2 bar tickets, food, a catalogue and first dibs on local artwork. rEvolver Festival Is Back At The Cultch May 22 – June 2, 2019

Lady Parts – May 22-25, 2019
This 80 minute sketch combines personal stories, video interviews along with some special guests. Lady Parts pays homage to the struggles of gender and has a little fun with feminism. The reviews are lining up well this is one to see.
Surveil – May 23-26, 2019
This comedy is all about being watched. The production will delve into the world of modern surveillance and show you first hand all the ways the world is watching us. Some ways you may already know, but some you may not.
Perfect Strangers May 24-26, 2019
This is most certainly theatre transformed. You are invited to participate (not watch) Perfect Strangers. Starting from The Cultch, you will participate in a 90 minute walking tour which is also part platonic bind date as well as social experiment. This is a quirky experiment in which you are paired up with people to walk through a neighbourhood and consider how you perceive strangers and talk with others who you might not otherwise talk to. The walk goes rain or shine, so dress for the weather. A 30 minute reception follows after the tour. The aim of this production is to spark empathy between people who might not otherwise meet. Come alone and you just might leave with a new friend.
