Artists, Musicians & Performers Wanted For Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival

The Still Moon Arts Society is planning the 19th Annual Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival this September. This is an amazing community event that celebrates the full moon, Autumnal Equinox as well as Renfrew-Collingwood’s diverse community and natural environment through interdisciplinary arts events. They are now recruiting artists, musicians and performers for their Harvest Fair and installation artists for their Streamside Lantern Installation. They are on the hunt for performers with a variety of backgrounds including visible minorities, persons with disabilities, newcomers, BIPOC, and LGBTQAI2s+ folks. Diversity of artists is very important to them. Artists will be paid industry-standard rates for their work ranging from $200-$500 depending on work provided. Conversation On Non-Market Housing For Britannia Renewal This June

If you live in Grandview-Woodlands, you are invited to join the conversation on non-market housing at the renewed Britannia site. The Britannia Renewal Master Plan identifies the addition of non-market housing at the renewed Britannia site. This is your opportunity to provide your thoughts and any concerns during this online forum. They are looking to have a diverse range of voices and perspectives from the community. In order to achieve that, they are hosting 3 Zoom events on different dates and times. We’ve set out the dates and times below. Movies Are Back At The Rio Theatre As Of June 15

It’s been a long haul for the Rio Theatre that pivoted to a sports bar during the pandemic. As of June 15th, they are back to showing movies and are kicking things off Tuesday evening with an early showing of Cinema Paradiso. Heads up though, don’t go running to grab your tickets for that showing, it is already sold out. Tuesday’s 9:30 pm feature is The Big Lebowski which is also sold out. As you might imagine, there’s a little bit of a pent up demand and a lot of community support. The movie line up continues this week with Anthony Hopkins in The Father and Frances McDormand in Nomadland. If you are craving to see a movie in person, this is for you. Note, there are still COVID precautions and limited seating, so if there is a movie you wish to see, we suggest booking in advance. To purchase your tickets, visit the Rio Theatre.

Cheese Making Workshop: Mozzarella, Burrata & Bocconcini June 18, 2021

If you are craving an in person event, the Italian Cultural Centre is hosting a Cheese Making Workshop on Friday, June 18th. The focus of this workshop will be on making mozzarella, burrata and bocconcini. The class is led by Paula Maddison who is based on Gabriola Island and has extensive experience in cheesemaking. Paula will teach you the lost art of cheesemaking and show you some of the secrets in making these Italian cheeses in this demonstration class. The workshop will be held in one of the halls at the Italian Cultural Centre and only a limited number of tickets will be available to ensure it is a socially distanced event. Tickets are $110 for this 2 hour class and available directly from the Italian Cultural Centre.

Still Moon Arts Society Looking For Youth Emerging Artists

The Still Moon Arts Society is looking for youth artists between the ages of 16-24 that are looking to deepen their artistic development. Still Moon Arts Society is currently recruiting for their Emerging Artist Program, SMOLT (translation Still Moon Opportunities for Luminary Development). This is a pilot project program that runs from July 12th to August 22nd for artists in Renfrew-Collingwood. The program will provide youth with mentorship, resources and studio space to create works of luminary art to showcase during the 19th Annual Renfrew Ravine Festival. Sunrise Park Yoga July 6 – August 31, 2021

If you live in Hastings-Sunrise, Renfrew-Collingwood or Grandview Woodlands, you are invited to participate in free yoga in Sunrise Park. Sessions happen every Tuesday at 7:00 pm beginning July 6th and continue until August 31st. All levels are invited to participate. Note, they will be following all Public Health Orders which includes a Covid screening prior to attendance, so best to arrive a bit early. Eye Spy Creates Drone Images Over PNE/Hastings Park

It’s Friday and if all goes well, one day soon we will be able to attend the PNE in person and enjoy live events again. Fingers crossed. In the meantime, we’d like to share this cool drone aerial video taken over PNE/Hastings Park by Eye Spy. They invite you to try and Find The Hidden Objects which truth be told we found a bit hard to see. But we will say the aerial view, along with the relaxing music, provides for a moment to just enjoy the view and forget about everything else going on in the world.

Terminal City Glass Co-Op Hosts Spring Sale May 22, 2021

This Saturday, the artists at Terminal City Glass Co-Op invite you to their Spring Sale. This is an outdoor event happening rain or shine May 22nd from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. The sale will feature slightly imperfect, experimental and one-of-a-kind glass handmade items including vases, bowls, jewellery, cups and more. The items will be on display in the courtyard of the Mergatroid Building located at 1191 Parker Street. The event is a fundraiser to support the co-op’s education and studio activities. The sale is first come first serve, but note people are invited to pre-book a timeslot (every 15 minutes) to shop. Further, masks will be required to shop at the event and all COVID protocols will be in place. If you wish to pre-book your time slot to shop, visit Terminal City Glass Co-Op.
