The Parade Of Lost Souls Returns With Everything Everywhere! All At Parade October 28th

The much loved Parade of Lost Souls is back for another with an Everything Everywhere! All At Parade! which takes place on Saturday, October 28th. If you live in East Van, you likely know about this grass-roots festival. Creative direction comes from the folks at The Dusty Flowerpot Cabaret. The event itself encompasses dance, art, music, installations, acting and the well-attended parade and much loved Thriller Flash Mob.

Everyone is invited to participate in the Parade of Lost Souls on Saturday, October 28th which procession begins at 7:30 pm from the Britannia Library.  There will also be a Thriller Flash Mob as well as a The Time Warp Flash Mob. Should you wish to participate in The Time Warp Flash Mob alongside professionals, there’s still time to sign up for a drop in class Saturday, October 21st. The Parade of Lost Souls is an all ages family friendly event.   Costumes are encouraged and the wilder the better. For those interested in buying or making a costume, you may wish to check out the Open House Costume Sale happening Friday, October 20th from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at 2050 Scotia Street.

Beer & Board Game Nights At Dogwood Brewing This Fall

Love board games and looking to meet some like minded people?  You may wish to check out Beer & Board Game Nights taking place at Dogwood Brewing in SE Vancouver this Fall. The events are hosted by We Should Be Friends Vancouver which began when Katrina from Ontario moved to Vancouver thinking her extroverted personality would allow her to make new friends easily.   Things didn’t turn out as planned, so she decided to do something positive and create events that allowed people to mix and mingle with the hope of making lasting friendships.   So whether you are looking for a fun evening out or making some new connections, Beer & Board Game Night seems like a fun relaxed way to meet new people. Events happen the first and third Monday of the month, with Monday, October 16th being the first event. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at We Should Be Friends Vancouver. For those unfamiliar with Dogwood Brewing, it is located at 8284 Sherbrooke Street in SE Vancouver just below Marine Drive near the Knight Street Bridge.

Nightmare Before Christmas Market October 7 & 8

If you are looking to shop for the wacky, weird and the wonderful, you may wish to check out the Nightmare Before Christmas Market. It happens October 7th and 8th at the Croatian Cultural Centre, 3250 Commercial Drive.  The event will feature over 70 vendors that will be celebrating all things Halloween. Along with a variety of vendors, expect to find cosplay artists and food vendors.  Admission is $4 in advance, $5 at the door and children 13 years of age and are free.  The event runs Saturday, October 7th from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm and Sunday, October 8th, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Stop by and get into the Halloween spirit, costumes are encouraged.

June Hunter – East Van Artist Studio Sale September 30

East Van artist, June Hunter, is hosting a rare Studio Sale this Saturday, September 30th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.  June’s work features urban nature as well as some iconic East Van landmarks. If you wish to know more about the crows and other birdlife that inhabit the green space in our neck of the woods, you may wish to follow her blog. June also captures some truly amazing photos of the visitors that come to her idyllic backyard. During her studio sales, June transforms her working space to showcase all her creative works which include a City Crow Calendar 2024,  jewellery, small prints, wall art, bags, tea towels, postcards, notebooks and much more.  We expect her rescue dog Geordie will be on hand again as ambassador to greet you. June Hunter’s Studio is located at 2785 Parker Street (one block west of Renfrew – between Hastings St. and First Avenue). The Studio Sale runs from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

First Pick Handmade Fall Pop Up September 23rd & 24th

First Pick Handmade is returning to the Heritage Hall for a 2 day Fall Pop Up September 23rd and 24th.  The event will feature a great line up of BC-based designers and artists. Stop by and meet the creators of locally made fashion, accessories and art.  Some of the makers and designers that will be on hand include HD Russell Boots, Jessica Redditt Designs, Winterluxe Recycled Cashmere, Joanna Lovett Sterling, Lisa Warren Ceramics and many more. Whether you are looking for something for your home, for yourself, or a gift, there will be lots to choose from. Eastside Flea Returns September 23 & 24 At New Location

In case you hadn’t heard the news, The Eastside Flea lost its long standing location at Eastside Studios at 550 Malkin Avenue. They are happy to announce they are back in a new space at 1101 Union Street. The Eastside Flea will be kicking off the Fall market season on September 23rd and September 24th. You can expect to find 50 local vendors with a mix of vintage and handmade items, food trucks, photo booth and we hear a licensed bar. Admission is $5.00. Market runs from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. If you miss their first weekend back, they will be continuing markets every weekend until October 29th.

21st Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival September 23rd

The Still Moon Arts Society is gearing up for the 21st Annual Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival. This free festival celebrates the Harvest Moon, Autumn Equinox, Still Creek, local art and diverse cultural traditions of the Renfrew-Collingwood Neighbourhood. This year’s theme is Water’s Wisdom. The signature events include the annual Harvest Fair, Lost Streams Parade and Streamside Lantern Installation which features live music, dance, shadow puppets and eco-arts.  We’ve set out below where and when the main events take place.

You are invited to an evening of mindful walking meditation while listening to healing frequencies of earth-based instruments.

Slocan Park + Renfrew Community Park

The Harvest Fair is an all ages family friendly event that kicks off at 4:00 pm on Saturday, September 21st in Slocan Park.  You can expect music, local artists, eco-arts workshops, games and community booths.  At twilight (approx.. 7:10 pm), a procession walk will begin taking the route of the Lost Streams that once flowed throughout the Renfrew-Collingwood neighbourhood.    The lantern procession will take you to the Streamside Lantern Installation at Renfrew Community Park. This space is filled with beautiful lanterns and illuminated art and live music.

Intro To Bouquet Making With Local Flowers At Figaro’s Garden Centre

Figaro’s Garden Centre is hosting another great workshop this month.   On September 21st, you are invited to join them for an Intro to Bouquet Making With Local Flowers.  This is a hands-on evening class in which you will learn to how to make beautiful floral arrangements.   All necessary tools are provided for you, just bring your creativity. The instructors are experienced cut flower growers who are passionate about local blooms and will delve into the benefits of using local blooms. Workshop: Create A Botanical Cyanotype Lantern September 10th

In advance of this year’s Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival, the Still Moon Arts Society is hosting a pretty cool workshop.   Two creatives, Brittney Appleby and Rea Saxena, will be leading this beginner friendly workshop in which you will create a Botanical Cyantope Lantern. Brittney and Rea will help you create the lanterns using natural plant materials sourced locally, or you can bring your own elements. You will have the opportunity to show off your creative lantern marking skills at the Twilight Lantern Procession being held on September 23rd which is the big finale of the Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival.  The lantern workshop will take place on Sunday, September 10th from Noon to 3:00 pm at the Slocan Community Hall. Car Free Days In East Van

Car Free Days return for another year. In East Vancouver, they will be happening September 9th on Commercial Drive (North Grandview Highway to 1st Avenue) and September 16th on Main Street (10th Avenue to King Edward Avenue).   Both festivals kick off at Noon and run till 7:00 pm. Car Free Days is a chance to experience the City with more space for pedestrians.  Expect to find activities for all ages, locally-based vendors in each neighbourhood.  This is a free family friendly event in which walking, cycling and taking transit to the event is encouraged.
