Local artist, Tana Lynn, is hosting a mixed media workshop on Sunday, February 10th. The aim of this workshop is for you to create a personal gift of art for your loved one. Something personal, made with heart is the way Valentine’s Day should be. In this workshop, Tana Lynn, will lead you through a project that the whole class makes together, thus it will be the same piece. After that, you will be free to create your own unique art piece. Thus, you will be leaving with not 1, but 2 pieces of art. No experience is necessary for this workshop and all supplies will be included. Cost is $85.00 and registration is available through Eventbrite. Event takes place at Studio 580 at 580 Clark Drive.

You are invited to a very different kind of show at the York Theatre on Saturday, January 26th. A group of male improvisational comedians will perform a male stripper routine and improv sketches while at the same time singing, dancing, gyrating and laughing it up with the crowd. This show is a semi-undressed and completely unscripted production. The Comic Strippers take off their shirts and take on your suggestions to create a whole new genre of comedy. We expect this to be a fun filled night. Tickets are $39 and available online through The Cultch. Note, this show is for a 19+ audience.

You are invited to a party and you the audience members are in fact part of the harvest festival, Onam. This is a spontaneous theatrical celebration that is part performance, part improv that takes place in the back of a convenience store that Mrs. Krishnan owns. An energetic wannabe DJ and boarder hosts a party in the back room and you get to see first hand how it unfolds. There’s lights, music, dance and daal. The Open House – Havana Theatre – January 18th & 19th
The Open House is offers something a little different than your usual family drama where all problems are solved in 2 hours. Instead this is billed as a wildly subversive and darkly funny take on family drama. Production takes place at Havana Theatre Friday night and Saturday there’s a matinee and evening show. Walt Dismal At The Rio Theatre February 5th

This February, Impossible Things Productions, brings you a parody of Walt Dismal proportions. You may know, some classic Walt Disney movies like Aladdin, The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast, but on February 5th you will see them in a whole new way. Walt Dismal which is billed as a musical and a comedy will bring you some slightly twisted characters who will be acting out a series of scenes from the aforementioned popular animated classics. We hear you can expect some side splitting comedy along with a version of your favourite songs like you’ve never heard them before. The evening will be led by Walt Dismal himself (also known as Matthew Simmons). Tickets for this evening of fun are $20 in advance or $22 at the door. Dine Out Vancouver Returns January 18th to February 3rd

Canada’s largest restaurant festival gets under on January 18th. Dine Out Vancouver 2019 returns with over 300 restaurants participating within Greater Vancouver. Something new we noticed this year is 4 options for the prix-fix menus being $15, $25, $35 and $45. Dine Out, we think, is a great opportunity to try new restaurants you may not normally go to. During the festival there are also many special foodie related events available such as Get Crafty hosted by Rocky Mountain Flatbread Co. on Main Street. There’s also an Introduction to Dim Sum at Dynasty Restaurant that looks intriguing. If you have a particular restaurant, you wish to try again make your reservation early. Popular spots do book up early.

Do you love watching Dragon’s Den? If yes, then you may wish to check out Pitch, Bitch and Ditch happening Monday, January 14th at The Cultch. Do you have a great idea for show? Do you want to have a say in what type of productions you’d like to see on stage? Creators, Pippa Mackie and Kim Senklip Harvey, aim to highlight the strength and power of female-identifying voices and experiences. During the course of the evening, they will guide attendees through a lively banter and debate on a variety of possible topics. No idea is off limits, no suggestion taboo, you are to let your imagination run wild and oh, the bar will be open should that help you loosen your tongue just a little.
