East Van artist, Joanne Probyn, invites you to the opening of her new exhibition Reimagining Balance. Hosted in her new East Van studio the exhibit is a collection of over 2 years of art-making. Joanne will be exhibiting paintings, prints and embroidery. You are invited to join her Saturday, September 18th for the opening night reception from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm for fully vaccinated guests. Sunday, September 19th the exhibit will be open for viewing between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm by appointment only at 1310 William Street, Vancouver. RSVP is required for the opening night reception. Cooking Classes Are Back At Gourmet Warehouse

If you haven’t already experienced one of their classes, it is a great way to spend an afternoon or evening with some like-minded food lovers. Sourdough Pizza – October 7, 2021
You are invited to participate in this hands on 3 hour class in which you learn how to make sourdough pizza at home. The evening’s menu includes:

Introduction to Pastry – September 25, 2021
This 2 1/2 hour will be hosted by none other than Chef Andrei Godoroja, winner of ‘Great Canadian Baking Show’. This is another hands on pastry class in which you will learn a number of techniques which will result in a galette pastry you will be able to take home with you at the end of the evening. The menu for this class includes:

This 3 hour class will be led by Caren McSherry and delve into the making of paella. She will teach you the secret techniques to create the perfect Spanish paella along with a few other delish eats as set out below.

Call For Art: New Window Exhibition
11 AugThe Massy Arts Society is seeking submissions from visual artists to transform the street front window of their new gallery space at 23 East Pender Street. Some may recognize the address as the historic Ming Wo building. The window display will be visible to those walking by on street level. The aim is to support emerging practices of artists of diverse mediums. They are looking for experimental and non-conventional forms of work. If you are interested in submitting your work for consideration, the deadline is August 23rd. The first exhibition opening is planned for September 7th. CREATE! Arts Festival At Woodland Park August 21 & 22
4 AugThe producers of the Eastside Culture Crawl Festival are bringing you a new innovative event, that being the CREATE! Arts Festival. The CREATE! Arts Festival is a new community initiative of the Eastside Arts Society which brings together over 40 local artists for art making. They will help you explore, learn and create art together through a series of affordable and accessible art workshops.
This is an all ages event in which you can learn felt making, ceramics, glass blowing, painting, printmaking, jewellery making and the list goes on. Most of the events will take place outdoors in Woodland Park Saturday August 21st and Sunday, August 22nd with a few workshops taking place in some Eastside studios. Outdoor Zumba Classes At Trout Lake This August
4 AugLooking to work off some Covid pounds? Maybe you consumed a little too much sourdough during the pandemic? OK maybe that’s just us. If you are looking to workout, but maybe not quite ready for indoor group classes, Trout Lake Community Centre has an option. They are offering outdoor Zumba classes this August on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. You can expect a great workout with some Latin rhythms to get you moving that combines Salsa, Merengue and Cumbia. Classes are designed for all fitness levels. Note, no drop-ins for these classes. Just Off Main – Free Outdoor Event August 14th

Just Off Main is an event happening Saturday, August 14th from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm and you guessed it, just off Main Street. This free outdoor event will be happening on various side streets up and down Main Street. Things available to see, eat or drink include beer, burgers and dance as well as live music and yes ballerinas. Hub Cycling will be on hand along with other community organizations. There will be activities for the kids along with ice cream and cotton candy. Lantern Procession Returns To Trout Lake August 25th
25 JulYes, it’s back! Trout Lake Community Centre is hosting a lantern procession on Wednesday, August 25th from 8:00 pm till dusk. The Carnival Band will lead the procession around Trout Lake and we are certain you can expect to see some circus performers join in on the fun for the evening. This is a free all ages event. All you need to participate is to bring a lantern(s) for a meandering walk around the lake. We expect the community centre will be leading some lantern making workshops, as they’ve done in the past, prior to the event. Contact them directly for further information.
Firehall Arts Centre Presents Music In The Courtyard
19 JulThe Firehall Arts Centre and the Vancouver Independent Music Centre present the 2021 Music in the Courtyard series from Friday, July 30th to Sunday, September 5th. The performances for the second edition of this series will take place outdoors in the courtyard at The Firehall Arts Centre at 280 East Cordova Street. The shows will mainly take place Wednesdays to Saturdays at 7:00 pm and Sundays at 3:00 pm. Tickets range from $20 to $40. It is strongly recommended that tickets be purchased in advance as tickets are expected to go quickly. The line up of talent is all over the map. You can expect to hear solo, duo and group performances. The sounds range from a string quartet to rock & roll to artists you might expect to find at the Vancouver Folk Festival to soulful blues. Note: Each performance will be limited to 50 patrons. Patrons will be required to wear masks in public areas within the building, but may remove their masks once seated in the outdoor courtyard area.
