Wine Trivia Night – Everything Wine Vancouver – June 6th

Everything Wine in River District is hosting a Wine Trivia Night this Friday night. Think you know your wines? Come test your knowledge with the host while enjoying some great wine and snacks. Cost is $20. Fun gets under way at 6:30 pm.

Houseplant Cuttings Swap – Templeton Park Pool – June 8th

You are invited to bring your healthy houseplants or plant cuttings to trade this Saturday at the Grassy Field at Templeton Park Pool, 700 Templeton Drive. The swap happens between 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.  If you plant to pick up new cuttings, don’t forget to bring a few pots to place them in.

10th Annual Vancouver Craft Beer Festival – PNE Fairgrounds – June 8th & 9th 

If you love beer, this is the place to be this weekend. The 10th Annual Vancouver Craft Beer Festival happens this Saturday and Sunday at the PNE Fairgrounds.  Featuring over 300 beers and ciders from BC and the US, there will be lots on offer including food trucks.  Tickets are $39 for one day, or you can purchase a weekend pass for $65. Tickets are available through Ticketleader.

Bridal Pop Up – The Garden – June 8th

Are you planning a wedding?  The Garden in Strathcona, 868 East Hastings Street, is hosting a Bridal Pop Up this Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm in their studio space. They will have bridal pieces, floral displays and a wedding planner on hand.  Free to attend.

Italian Day – Commercial Drive – June 9th

This is one of the biggest street parties in the City and a personal favourite, Italian Day happens this Sunday from Noon to 8:00 pm.  Car traffic is blocked from the Grandview Cut to Venables Street for the day. There will be lots of great eats, live music and activities for all ages. Free to attend and wander.

Retro Design & Antiques Fair – Croatian Cultural Centre – June 9th

This Sunday you can find some 185 tables with vintage, collectables and antiques at the Croatian Cultural Centre. The event goes from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm .

Main Street Mixed Bag – Ellis Building – June 9th

Main Street Mixed Bag happens this Sunday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Ellis Building at 1024 Main Street.  Great opportunity to check out awesome local talent and who knows what you might find. Admission is free. Kids and dogs welcome.

Cabaret Cirque – Rio Theatre – June 9th

A new production featuring a sexy circus cabaret comes to the Rio Theatre Sunday night. Cabaret Cirque features a sultry evening of entertainment with dancers, contortionists and a whole lot more. Show gets under way at 7:30 pm. Advance tickets are $25 and tickets at the door $30.

LIVE MUSIC, ENTERTAINMENT & COMEDY

Looking for more live music, did you know The Heatley in Strathcona regularly features live music?  Every Sunday they offer bluegrass music with brunch 11 am – 3 pm.

Also 7 days a week, you will find live music at the Libra Room on The Drive. Tangent Café hosts live jazz Sunday nights  from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. Saturday, Pat’s Pub has live jazz Saturday afternoons from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm, no cover.

Looking to shop local? Be sure to check out one of the farmer markets happening this weekend. Saturday is Riley Park Farmers Market at 30th & Ontario from 10 am – 2 pm and Trout Lake Farmers Market from 9 am – 2 pm at John Hendry Park. Sunday, Mount Pleasant Farmers Market is back in Dude Chilling Park from 10:00 am – 2 pm. 10th Annual Vancouver Craft Beer Week Festival June 8 & 9, 2019

BeerLove craft beer? If the answer is yes, you might want to make your way to the 10th Annual Vancouver Craft Beer Festival happening this Saturday and Sunday at the PNE Fairgrounds.  This event which started in 2010 hosting just 100 beer lovers and 15 craft breweries has grown exponentially. This weekend you can expect over 300 beers and ciders for tasting. In case you missed that, if you are not a beer lover, there will also be 10 cideries on hand to mix things up. There will be local offerings of craft beer and cider as well as a number from across the border as well as 10 independent craft berries from the BC Ale Trail. If you get hungry, there will be a good selection of food trucks on hand for the festival.  The Craft Beer Week Festival runs this Saturday, June 8th from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm and Sunday, June 9th from 12:00 to 5:00 pm. Tickets are $39 for one day, or you can purchase a weekend pass for $65. Tickets are available through Ticketleader.  Note: You must be 19+ to attend the Vancouver Craft Beer Week Festival and 2 pieces of ID are required for entry.

Got Fruit? Vancouver Fruit Tree Project Wants You!

FruitTreeProjectThe Vancouver Fruit Tree Project Society is a local non-profit in operation since 1999. Since it’s inception they have picked more than 68,000 pounds of produce and redistributed it throughout the community to social service organizations.  The Society works with over 300 volunteers including tree fruit pickers as well as those offering trees for a backyard harvest.  The program benefits some 8,000 people.  Do you have a fruit tree to offer or have some time to volunteer this summer?  You can learn more at the Season Kick Off happening Tuesday, June 11th at The Hive, #210 – 128 West Hastings Street from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.  The evening includes a zero waste event, potluck, prizes, games and a beeswax wrap workshop. rEvolver Festival – The Cultch – Until June 2nd

11th Annual Cedar Cottage Community Garden Spring Fling – May 25th

You are invited to celebrate community and food security at the 11th Annual Cedar Cottage Community Garden this Saturday from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm. This is a free family friendly event. There will be some local vendors with items including art, plants along with live bluegrass music.   Stop by and celebrate community. This community garden is rich in local history.

Family Yoga – Trout Lake Community Centre – May 25th

Family Yoga is back at Trout Lake Community Centre this Saturday from 1:00 – 2:00 pm along with live music. Cost is $1.00.

Reclaimed Wood Market – 1278 East Hastings Street – May 25th

The Reclaimed Wood Market is doing some spring cleaning which means it’s 15% off all reclaimed wood and live edge slabs this Saturday.  Stop by between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. They will be offering refreshments and hot dogs. Kids and pups welcome.

Collingwood Days – Gaston Park – May 25th

Collingwood Days Festival happens in Gaston Park this Saturday between 11:00 am – 4:00 pm. The event kicks off with a pancake breakfast between 9:00 am – 11:00 am followed by a parade at 10:30 am. The official kick off is at 11:00 am and features entertainment, arts and crafts, games, food and much more.  This is a free family friendly event.

Parker Art Salon – 1000 Parker Street – May 24th – 26th

If you love art, this is the place to be this weekend. The Parker Art Salon is happening with a paid preview  event Friday night for collectors and a free event Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at 1000 Parker Street. The halls of 1000 Parker Street are turned into a salon style exhibit by local artists. If you are interested in the Collector’s Night on Friday or a paid tour, visit Eventbrite.

21st Annual European Festival – The Alpen Club – May 26th

The 21st Annual European Festival happens this Sunday at the Vancouver Alpen Club (Victoria and 33rd Avenue).  The festival happens from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm and will feature  live music, dance performances, food, artisans and much more.  To see what performances they’ve got lined up, visit the Festival Schedule. Mount Pleasant Farmers Market – Dude Chilling Park – May 26th

If you live in Mount Pleasant or close to, this sweet little farmers market kicks off the seasons this Sunday at Dude Chilling Park (8th Ave & Guelph St.) from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm.

Lucas Dubovik Quartet – Café Deux Soleils – May 26th

Looking to wind down towards the end of the weekend. The Lucas Dubovik Quartet is playing at Café Deux Soleils Sunday night. This group features four young talented musicians from the Vancouver area.  They are inspired by the sounds of the 1950s from some of the greats including John Coltrane, Hank Mobley and Sonny Rollins’ quartets. Doors are at 8:00 pm, show begins at 9:00 pm.

Italian Day Happens Sunday June 9th On The Drive

ItalianDayThe much loved Italian Day returns to Commercial Drive Sunday, June 9th.  This 14 block vibrant street party takes place on The Drive from the Grandview Cut to Venables.  The day is filled with food, entertainment, things to do and see and experience.  Grab some friends and stop at one of the many outdoor patios set up for the day for a bite and refreshment. Or take in one of the many food trucks lined up and down the stretch.  You will certainly not go hungry whilst you wander and take in all the sights and sounds.

Each year, Italian Day, hosts a theme, this year’s is community an important piece of Italian culture and heritage. This year’s festival looks to celebrate community and the common ground we all share and how together we can make a positive difference in our community.

Britannia Community Centre is again hosting a free family friendly activity. This year, local artists will help host a Friendship Bracelet Workshop from Noon to 4:00 pm in the Napier Greenway.  All materials are supplied. Everyone is welcome to stop by and participate.

Italian Day kicks off at Noon and the party runs till 8:00 pm. Just a reminder that vehicle traffic on Commercial Drive is blocked off, so it is best to take transit, walk or cycle in. For those cycling to Italian Day, we expect a Bike Valet will be set up again at 1st Avenue & Commercial, but this hasn’t been confirmed yet. We invite you come out and celebrate all things Italian. Italian Day represents the largest one day cultural street festival in Vancouver – and perhaps in Canada – drawing over 200,000 attendees of all cultures and ages.  Stop by and see some of the magic of this great street festival.

European Festival At The Alpen Club Sunday May 26th

EuropeanFestival.jpgThe 21st Annual European Festival happens Sunday, May 26th at the Vancouver Alpen Club (Victoria and 33rd Avenue).  This all day event is rich in culture and features live music and performances, lots of amazing food as well as an artisan marketplace which feature hand-made jellies, honey products, teas, ethnic instruments and much more.   This is a great opportunity to learn about the tastes and sounds of Europe without travelling very far. 24th Annual Stone Soup Festival May 11th In The Napier Greenway

Stone Soup Festival 2019The 24th Annual Stone Soup Festival happens Saturday, May 11th from Noon to 5:00 pm.  This annual festival brings community together in celebration of local food, artists, community groups and entertainment with a focus on food sustainability, food justice and the environment. There will be live music, workshops, demonstrations, food vendors, art and some local vendors including ILiveInEastVan. We’ll be on hand with a selection of our reusable nylon and canvas totes as well as a few Art Of East Van designs featuring artist Kat McPhee.  Also on hand will be BagItUpByKate who makes organic cotton resusable produce bags, linen bread bags and for those days you need to destress, relaxation eye bags. Kate is on a mission to replace people’s use of plastic bags, one bag a time. And of course, there will be free soup!  The Stone Soup Festival takes place in the Napier Greenway at the Britannia Community Centre Noon – 5:00 pm. Stop by and say hello. We’d love to see you.

Spring Fling: Zero Waste Dinner at SOIL May 2, 2019

The founders of Urban Leaf Catering, Kadieann Tighe and Shani Cohen, have partnered with SOIL, 2408 Main Street, for a delish dining experience. On May 2nd, you have the opportunity to enjoy a four course plant based meal with a focus on zero waste.  Outside of an amazing meal, there will be an educational component on Zero Waste Living by Tosha Lobsinger from People Peace Project and Eat The Dishes. The evening has 2 seatings one at 5:30 pm and another at 8:30 pm. Tickets are $65 per person and available through Eventbrite.  Seating is limited so if interested, best grab those tickets.

Chocolate Challenge At Gourmet Warehouse May 2, 2019

The Chocolate Challenge is back at the Gourmet Warehouse on May 2, 2019. If you love chocolate, this is the place to be.  The Chocolate Challenge is truly a decadent event for chocolate lovers.  This event pits local chocolatiers against each other to create something amazing, both beautiful and delish, with chocolate.  You have the opportunity to taste their creations and vote on them.  This event is a fundraiser for 3 great local charities, specifically the Strathcona Backpack Program, Project Chef and the Vancouver Firefighters `Snacks for Kids` Program. Tickets are $79 and 100% of ticket sale proceeds go towards these charities. As well, there will be a silent auction featuring a host of items including a Chef’s Dinner at Joe Fortes valued at $2,000 and $1,000 Shopping Spree at The Room at Hudson’s Bay.  To keep you fed and hydrated during this evening event, there will be gourmet food stations situated around the store along with a wine bar.  Event gets under way at 6:30 pm.  Come out and try some amazing chocolate, socialize with other chocolate lovers and support local charities doing great work in our community. Learn To Make A Provencal Vegetarian Dinner at Trout Lake Community Centre March 6th

Looking to cook something new, healthy and easy for dinner? How about a Provencal Vegetarian Dinner?  Valentine of Tartine & Maple will be leading a delish cooking demonstration on Wednesday, March 6th at Trout Lake Community Centre.  She will introduce you to some food and recipes from southern Europe. During the class, Valentine will demonstrate how to make homemade Olive Tapenade Crostinis, Provence Vegetable Tian and Almond Panna Cotta.
