This weekend you are invited to check out Shiny Fuzzy Muddy happening at the Heritage Hall, 3102 Main Street (at 15th Avenue). This is curated annual collection of fine art, craft and design. This is also Shiny Fuzzy Muddy’s 17th and final year of this market. The curated collective is brought to you by artists, Kari Woo, Janna Hurtzig, Arleigh Wood and Frances Dickinson and features some of Western Canada’s brightest talent. This collaborative event provides a venue that champions craftsmanship over mass production, annually hosting over 30 Canadian and BC based artists to exhibit in an intimate environment where shoppers can mingle with the makers. Throughout the years of this long running show, over 75 Canadian visual artists, makers, designers, jewelers and potters and their products have been featured at events providing a unique platform for consumers to meet the people who create art in the city.
“It’s bittersweet that 2019 will be the final Shiny Fuzzy Muddy show,” says Frances Dickinson, co-founder, of the SFM Collective, “we have seen the growth of slow fashion and handmade design in Vancouver over the past 17 years and we are so proud to have championed this movement. But now, as artists and designers who crave change and creativity, it’s time for all of us to focus on new projects.”

Music On Main presents Music for the Winter Solstice December 11 and 12, 2019 at the Heritage Hall. Winter solstice is a time of contrast: light and dark, cold and warmth, endings and beginnings. As such, as this decide comes to a close, they invite you come take a moment away from the hustle and bustle that is everyday life and come relax and enjoy the sounds of winter solstice music while basking in a candlelit glow. Performances include Caroline Shaw (Roomful of Teeth, Kanye West), Gabriel Kahane (Book of Travelers, The Ambassador), and Rachel Kiyo Iwaasa (Queer Arts Festival). Concert begins at 8:00 pm both. Have you made your way down to the walking trails along the Fraser River in SE Vancouver? If you have, you will come across an area called Tugboat Landing at the foot of Victoria Drive at East Kent Avenue South. If you aren’t familiar with this area, it once housed tugboats at this landing on the Fraser River hence the name. It was redeveloped into a community of condos and townhomes that enjoy river front living. The area is located on a public walkway and cycle path just steps away from Gladstone Park and less than a mile West of the new River District development.
