June Hunter Valentine’s Studio Sale February 9th and 10th

East Van artist, June Hunter, is hosting her Valentine’s Studio Sale this weekend. If you have a special someone to buy for who is a nature lover, then this is the spot for you. June has again been working on some new colourful designs. This weekend you can expect to find a host of beautiful items including heart shaped jewellery, cusjunehuntervalentine_cookies_1024x1024hion covers, totes, small prints, iPad covers, greeting cards, note pads, large scale wall art, tiles and much more.  As you will notice, nature and/or wildlife is a theme through all of her work.  In celebration of Valentine’s Day, heart shaped cookies will be available for nibbling and Geordie her rescue dog will be ready to greet you.  June Hunter’s studio is located at 2785 Parker Street (one block west of Renfrew – between Hastings St. and First Avenue). The Studio Sale takes place Saturday, February 9th and Sunday, February 10th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Live Music With Jillian Lake – Havana Theatre – February 1st

Story Story Lie Fool For Love At The Rio Theatre February 13th

sslfoolforloveStory Story Lie is back at The Rio Theatre February 13th with A Fool For Love.  Story Story Lie is an interactive show where some of Vancouver’s best entertainers share intimate, funny and often embarrassing stories about themselves. One of them is lying and telling you a tall tale. But which one?  The audience gets to take part in the interrogation to reveal who the liar is. And the first audience member to guess the liar, wins the grand prize as well as bragging rights. The upcoming show on February 13th is a Valentine’s Day Special featuring love stories from the funny to the darn right foolish.  Of course, one of the contestants is telling a lie. Spot the liar right and you could win some lavish lingerie from Your Open Closet. The line up of storytellers include:

Mrs. Krishnan’s Party – The Cultch – To February 3rd

You are invited to a party and you the audience members are in fact part of the harvest festival, Onam. This is a spontaneous theatrical celebration that is part performance, part improv that takes place in the back of a convenience store that Mrs. Krishnan owns.  An energetic wannabe DJ and boarder hosts a party in the back room and you get to see first hand how it unfolds. Mixed Media Workshop – Heart Art – February 10th At Studio 580

The aim of this workshop is for you to create a personal gift of art for your loved one.  Something personal, made with heart is the way Valentine’s Day should be.   In this workshop, Tana Lynn, will lead you through a project that the whole class makes together, thus it will be the same piece. After that, you will be free to create your own unique art piece. Thus, you will be leaving with not 1, but 2 pieces of art.  No experience is necessary for this workshop and all supplies will be included. The Comic Strippers At The York Theatre January 26, 2019

You are invited to a very different kind of show at the York Theatre on Saturday, January 26th.  A group of male improvisational comedians will perform a male stripper routine and improv sketches while at the same time singing, dancing, gyrating and laughing it up with the crowd.  This show is a semi-undressed and completely unscripted production. The Comic Strippers take off their shirts and take on your suggestions to create a whole new genre of comedy.  We expect this to be a fun filled night.  Tickets are $39 and available online through The Cultch. Walt Dismal At The Rio Theatre February 5th

You may know, some classic Walt Disney movies like Aladdin, The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast, but on February 5th you will see them in a whole new way.  Walt Dismal which is billed as a musical and a comedy will bring you some slightly twisted characters who will be acting out a series of scenes from the aforementioned popular animated classics.  We hear you can expect some side splitting comedy along with a version of your favourite songs like you’ve never heard them before. The evening will be led by Walt Dismal himself (also known as Matthew Simmons).  Tickets for this evening of fun are $20 in advance or $22 at the door.
